Hey, I thought MAC did not get viruses or malicious code attacks?

I knew that statement was not going to last very long once Apple increased in popularity and user base.. Silly MAC people:D

Yawn. People were saying that in 2003. Here I am, a decade later and OS X have never been so popular.

Yet I still have no anti-virus and never have any issues.

I don't think you realize that us Mac users are laughing AT you. We will continue to use our secure Macs, while you will continue to use your unsecure Windows PC. Your loss.

I fund "ads" weirdly placed on various sites, but not until I saw this type on apple's official sit, I thought "what the hell??"

Found a so called plug-in in chrome, which I didn't understand since I hadn't installed any purposely..
And I have never heard of "twit tube"..

Freaky :)

...except when Mac fans attempt to describe Android, then all manner of such expectations come into play. ;)

What does Mac and Android have to do with each other? I can't run Android on any Mac or PC.

Very educated and polite virus at least it will ask for permission....

There was this email "virus" going around years ago...

"Hello. I always wanted to create a virus but I'm too stupid to make it work. To help me out, please forward this email to everyone in your address book, and then delete all the files on your computer. Your help is very much appreciated."

Ah

I see Yontoo is just as annoying on a Mac as it is on a PC. Lots of people at a workplace I'm familiar with have that toolbar installed. They usually have no clue how it got there and wonder why they get tons of pop ups.

If there's any one group of people just begging for it...

"I use my Mac because it is the superior OS. I don't have to worry about running virus blockers, scan for malware, or any of that stupid twaddle you PC users have to face every day. I buy Mac because It Just Works.

...wait. What's this? When did I buy $10,000 worth of Singaporean Ping Pong Porn? I don't remember that happening".

Something no one in this thread has mentioned in amongst trolling each other about OSX getting viruses is that this "trojan" is bloody clever once installed, injecting affiliate adverts when you visits Apples website - thats brilliant…they'd have to do it to a hell of a lot of machines to make any cash mind.

They look like Amazon links too, so I bet Amazon don't mind too… I'm pretty sure they'll have blank referrers too, Amazon might get a little suspicious when their cookie referrer is "apple.com" hahaha.

The problem here is not OS X, but the dumb user.

This is nothing new.

You may live in a guarded fortress, but if the owner let the crooks in, they will take advantage of that.

I'm sure Apple will soon turn the switch OFF on that Trojan.

In Windows, Malware can install without the user's knowledge.

Yes there may be some Malware, but it involves and requires user action even on relatively open machines....

Windoze can get the Herp just by being connected to the Net... Wanna try again? When a Hacker can program something that just by my Mac being on the internet, it can infect and cause harm... Then I will worry...

[Edit]
You can't fix stupid whether you're on a Mac or a Windows machine.. /rantmodeOff

I am not saying its impossible but it still hasnt happened.

This is really the same case on windows the vast majority o the time. If you do windows update and have microsoft security essentials the only way you'll get malware is through user interaction as well.

You can't run Android on an iPhone either, but that doesn't stop iPhone fans from complaining about it. ;)

And FWIW, you can run Android on a PC:
http://gizmodo.com/5979019/you-can-run-android-40-in-its-entirety-right-on-your-pc

The point was about security expectations. Personally, I agree with the notion that the basics of security are the responsibility of the user, but with non-Apple products we see a lot of discussions here based on a double-standard in that regard.

I think members of this forum need to understand the difference between the general public being "dumb" or "stupid" vs being ignorant. And by ignorant - I mean it by the actual definition.

If someone doesn't know something and/or believes something to be valid - that doesn't equate to them being dumb or stupid.

But by all means - name call...

You just don't get it.

Sigh. Live with your head stuck in the sand.

I love the "you just don't get it" responses. It's like an instant win button for the internet. You don't have to supply a counterpoint, bring up any pertinent information, do any research. You just go "FOOL! YOU FAIL TO GRASP THE MEANING OF MY WORDS! LIVE IN IGNORANCE! ...olol", then pat yourself on the back, and scootch on out.

And the exasperated sigh just adds so much extra spice to the mix. I should put one into every one of my posts. Sigh.

Oh, and a rolleyes emote.

What do you think I'm ignoring?

"can EVER" would be the key as it speaks to possibilities in the future.

"asking 'May I install this app please?'" did not apply to your example in the sense that you would had to have specifically sought out the app.
"and allowing the user click 'Yes'" must be followed by a password.

You know I find it hilarious when we see trojans or viruses on the Mac side, the fanboys say "Well you have to be stupid to get viruses/trojans on Mac OS".

Doesn't that essentially apply to Windows as well? I mean let's get real, If you are downloading from trusted sources, & not visiting questionable sites there's little to no chance you'll ever have to deal with this stuff.

Let's try to be objective, and not be defensive every time a trojan or virus appears on Mac. Fact of the matter is most people don't know how to use computers, even Macs.

My parents have in the past, and will today press the continue button or the install button, they can't differentiate between what's legit software and what's a trojan.
