Why is Newstand on the iPhone? Is there any Magazine apps available for the iPhone anyway? iPad I understand, but iPhone?

As of now, the damn thing is an empty wooden folder on my homepage.

Just when you think something couldn't be more useless than the stocks app.

So you have the option of accessing it from either one of your devices.

Yea, but not really. For example, Wired magazine sits in Newstand if you have it, but there is no Wired magazine app for iPhone. Same goes for "The Daily", iPad only.

How about we wait for iOS 5 to be released, then complain?

Actually, beta is a perfect time for complaints... Beta's are made to be criticized so when the product is released, it's right. Who knows, maybe Apple may catch wind if the complaint is big enough, it's happened in the past.

doubt it. The caliber of "The Daily" just wouldn't work on the iPhone. Simply put, not enough screen real estate.

i dont know magazines in pdf format work on the iphone for me

also the can format them to look better

example have the pictures hidden so you have to click a link to view

I do agree that it is pointless (to me) and I do hope that by the time iOS 5 is released this Fall that Apple can make Newsstand a downloadable app from the App Store and not have it be pre-installed.

I also agree... it should be a downloadable app... I never look at magazines and have no interest in them. It's just going to be a useless icon on my screen that never gets opened.

Agreed newstand and iBooks will perennially be useless apps to many people including me.

Only if you don't have stocks or read magazines. I am waiting for Newstand to give some mags a try.

You shouldn't even have iOS 5 if you aren't a developer. Stop complaining.

My new pet peeve. All the accusations of people using a beta not being developers. Developer or not everyone is allowed to have opinions about apps.

The point is that most people actually using the betas to test/debug their apps don't come to forums like this to complain. They go on the dev forums and they report bugs where it can actually make a difference.

The OP asked a question and offered an opinion on a new iOS 5 app, not reporting a bug or anything dev related.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Often wondered why they didn't just re-brand iBooks as iReader (or something like that) and run books and periodicals out of the same app. Just creating clutter with two apps doing roughly the same thing.

I agree completely. I can hardly see myself using Newsstand, i get most of my Mobile news on Twitter.

I really hope there is an option to download it or not, just like iBooks. Because otherwise, it will be right next to my Contacts app on the last page of my iPhone 5.

Probably the same reason they are splitting the iPod app into the music app and the videos app. Personally I preferred the unified iPod app because it reduced clutter.

I use 3 book apps: Banzai, Performance VW and Performance BMW Magazines, and If I can move them over to Newsstand, that would be so much better and nicer!
