Here is the thing, your right, but I know people who use Apple Mail for work. Although it is simple, I don't feel it is centered around teenagers. It displays emails, it gives us hyperlinks, and it does it all in a minimal, yet somewhat confusing, UI. I agree with you claim, but I do not see the teen-focused aspect of Apple. If they did, then we would have a cringey Apple social media.

You may well be correct. But I do know Apple did not design Apple mail for me.

It seems to be designed for simple minded people that do simple minded things (hence most likely teenagers or early college students that are more concerned about how they look than how things work). While I use it, it certainly does not meet my needs.

I use FastMail for my domain email and they are great. Their app is pants though, so have to look elsewhere...
They just published a full-fledged reskin of their app last week. It might scratch an itch for you that was missing before.

The reason I brought Fastmail into this was the fact that the background rules/options/features are quite robust. I did try Newton on a trial basis, and there just wasn't enough to move the needle for me.

You have to pay subscription and they still want to scan your emails for data aggregation. Only an Android co-creator would think this is ok.

Yeah, I'm running the app on my phone at the mo, but still not doing it for me lol

I paid for Newton the first time around and got a partial refund once the app was "pulled." It wasn't a terrible experience, but $50 is pretty hefty price to pay. I'll stick Apple's own mail app.

I'm terribly sad about this. Newton was a fantastic Mail app, absolutely worth the $39/year I had originally paid. When I heard it was back at $50, I was thrilled even at the higher cost.. Until I read their updated Privacy Policy.

Having gone from:

"All the information we collect from you is only used to give you the best possible experience using Newton. We don’t run ads inside the product or sell data to make money. We’ve built a good product and charge our users a subscription to run the business."
[Old Privacy Policy]

to

"We may work with third-party social platforms, such as Facebook, to serve ads to you as part of a customized campaign, unless you notify us that you prefer not to have information about you used in this way by sending an email to notices@newtonhq.com indicating the email address you wish to have removed from customized ad campaigns.

..is absurd for a product that charges any fees.

I used to LOVE Newton. I switched to Canary even though it's not as great. I was ready to sign up for Newton again until i read this. :(

Fair point, I now see what you were getting at with this.

It is $30 a month. You have to make it through 2 surveys and a 1:1 video interview before you get boarded and are able to download the TestFlight beta. They are charging people to use beta.

Yeah, I laughed at them when they told me the price. Won’t even do a trial either.

If anyone deserves to crash and burn with that kind of business model, it is them. They are looking to pad their resumes (and get rich) with what they think are the elite and gullible. I am one of the two.

Haven’t they also been in ‘beta’ a couple of years now?

Yes. About 2.5 years.

They need to hire more developers with all that money, perhaps they’ll actually release something then! lol
[doublepost=1549671902][/doublepost]Pigeon looks veeeeeery interesting and apparently IMAP support is next on the roadmap. Beta should be released before the end of the month they told me today.

Hm. Can you refer me?
Where can I read their privacy policy?
Sure

DM me your email address and I can put it in. I'll give you the heads up though that for the most part they're only working with businesses at this point. And the PP is on their site - superhuman.com

They are over a month late from their beta release goal of 12/31/2018. I wonder what their price point is going to be.

I don't think "Newton" @$50 a year, is meant to succeed other than planting the seed of subscription based mail for all the other email apps.

$50 does sound excessive, but when all the other email apps suddenly start advertising at $10 a year- we'll probably buy into it because hey- it's not $50.

This is a surprise. What isn't a surprise is that they clearly haven't learned from their mistakes.

I used CloudMagic and then Newton for years. I loved it. But I only continued with Newton because I got the first year free and then they gave me a 50% discount. That already felt too expensive, but I liked the app enough to pay it. €50 a year? No chance whatsoever. Especially now that I've spent 6 months on Apple Mail and learned to actually like it.

I wonder what their usp will be. One more same same email client diluting the market won’t achieve much.
If they enter the market at $30 - $35 dollars, I think they will take business away from Newton and others. I hope we see good competition. The only downside at release, is that they will only be supporting 365 accounts and Google accounts, if I remember correctly. They are planning on supporting iCloud and other clients.

Still doesn’t give us a usp. With incredible apps like Spark from large established companies like Readdle doing all this for free then I can’t see what they’d offer that would make me pay.

Aren't they just Gmail on launch?
