I think this thread jumped the shark when we started discussing the Dodge Neon.

I'd like to see some new MB and MBP designs pleeeeaaaaaase. :)

Mb aren't going to get redesigned, they're the newest. MBP might end up looking more like mb's but that's it. As in magnetic latch and user replaceable hd. but when they put out the MBP, even apple said they didn't know how to make it better.

Why would Apple go back to the lamp-design? Ok, almost everyone loved it, but they want sleeker, thinner, better NOT bulkier, heavier...

IF the design changes, it won't be much. Less chin, as has been posted here already, maybe a bit thinner... maybe aluminum or a black version... time will tell.

The screen could be really thin, and the manoeuvrability of it would be great for optional-touch...imagine using a keyboard and mouse, then just pulling the screen towards you for touch sensitivity...

I am confused...

Sorry, I just think that comparing any Apply product to any Ford Mustang made since 1980 is disturbing. However back to your point, I still think that the way you described the neon is the way I would describe the iMac line. You can get an anemic one for $999 or you can get a sports model for $1999+. The maxed out version is very fast, however it is not (ferrari fast) the fastest computer out there . Apple's answer to Ferrari fast would be the Mac pro.

Also, doesn't it seem logical that an iMac redesign would follow the same scheme as their other recent designs/redesigns? That would be the MacBook, the Airport, the Apple TV and the iPhone, right? Mostly they added black plastic, shiny screens and aluminum. Do you see them fitting everything into a new design scheme?

hmmm 24" iMac

i bought one like 3 or 4 months ago and i love it...

but they have to find a new cooling solution in order to make it able to hold better graphic cards and cpus...

that is the only thing that sucks... i`d like a 8800 gtx in my iMac `cause i like to play 3d games. but you can`t i guess because they are way too hot with around 70-80 degrees celsius.

but few things i`d like to see in future iMacs:

1) the ability to use it as a monitor for other devices like a mac pro or even a pc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2) black design
3) 360° stand
4) even more inputs on the back (firewire 800, s-ata, s-video, hdmi)
5) monitor off button :)

yep agreed!!! that was art the current model is just fughly.......

your needs sound more like advanced user needs. not that your needs aren't relevant - but apple probably probes the market enough to see that users like yourslef are welcome to buy a macpro. imac is more "one size fits many" and if you wanna customize with high end stuff...go macpro.

to add to your list - I'd be very happy if the increased the possibility to add more ram without using 2GB modules - which are very expensive.

Not to mention that the lamp-design cost them a fortune to ship as the box it came in was HUGE compared to what the new iMac comes in... It'll never happen

this is what I think it will look like:

Yeah, I think this is probably closest to how it'll look (color-wise and with the chrome trim, though that'll be thinner and I don't expect it to have speakers on the front of the machine like that). Make those slight changes and it'd make for a seriously elegant design, consistent with the look of the iPhone, and it looks a hell of a lot nicer than that fugly translucent futuristic screen design that people keep posting.

Chrome? No............ NO!

Too 1980 :D

I actually don't care what it looks like (because I'm sure I'll be fine whatever it is)...I just want them to release it already!!! I'm sitting here with money in my bank account, ready to buy a 24" iMac, but I'll be damned if I'm going to plunk down more than $2k on a computer only to have a new version come out in a couple months (or weeks). The wait is killing me.

Though one thing I'd like to see (might have been mentioned before, but this thread is WAY too long to check) is to have the machine detachable from the stand. That would open the door to all sorts of wall mounts, swivel mounts, etc.

Or maybe it will look like this:

album_pic.php

A combination of multi-touch and desktop ;)

Just move the power brick and superdrive to the bottom stand. And add a battery to the monitor. We are all set to go. Lightweight laptop + powerful desktop all in one. A true one computer dream :)

Not for me thanks, if I buy a desktop, I want it to be a desktop, not a pseudo-portable. Anyway, with display sizes of up to 24" the battery would probably last only about 10minutes :p

If you want a gaming machine, why the hell are you looking at Macs anyway? Macs have never been all that good for gaming. This is why I have a Mac and a Wii.

Can I play

- Combat Mission 1, 2, and 3
- Il-2 Sturmovik
- Half-Life 2
- Europa Universalis 3
- Civilization IV
- etc.

On a Wii? No I can not. I always get annoyed when someone says "why play games on a computer, when you can just get a console?". Maybe because the consoles do not have the games that interest me? Maybe because consoles suck for the type of games I like to play?

this coming from someone who owns a Wii.

for games...

got myself a 24" iMac with "only" the 256MB 7300 GT GPU

well i can play rollercoaster tycoon 3 + addons perfectly well ;-)

AND

stalker on highest quality settings but 16xAA and dynamic lighting of course.
it looks great and runs smoothly while rendered to 1900x1200 px!!!

I guess with a 17" iMac you could even put 16xAA and dynamic lighting on.

anyways... i am waiting for crysis and then i`ll buy the new iMac

i`m not much of a gamer and i think most apple users aren`t but i was quite happy, that i could play some games with it.

"Dude!, Photoshop isn`t a game!"

This is so very simple to understand...& still some appear not to. Add on Boot Camp & Macs can be the perfect computer for all purposes, including gaming.

I also have a PS2 but, frankly-speaking, compared to some Mac/PC-specific titles, I find most PS2 games lacking depth & quite boring in next to no time.

Of course, and that's what I plan on doing. But the original comment was about getting a console for gaming instead. And those people fail to understand that while you can play games on a PC and you can play games on a console, the two are not necessarily alternatives to each other. To them, gaming is gaming, and there's no difference in console-games and computer-games. But in reality the difference between the two is substantial.

I wholly agree with you're saying here. Indeed, a part of my comment was also indirectly alluding to those who fail to understand that "the difference between the two is substantial". As long as we get computer games of the high calibre of AOE, Civilization, Total War games, etc., IMO gaming on Macs & PCs will never die.

I use my PPC Mac for most things, but only occasionally for gaming. I'm now really looking forward to either new or updated iMacs coming out, & I'm certainly considering getting one to take care of most of my gaming requirements as well as the serious side of computing. It's also why I'm hoping for a better video card than the current X1600 on 17"/20" iMacs.
