This is true. I’ve had several stainless steel models now— it’s a product of the steel being polished and not brushed. Apple should have made a brushed stainless steel model. Sadly, with the advent of the titanium Ultra, I doubt this will ever happen. What’s more likely is that they will eventually discontinue the SS models in favor of that material.
I guess I’d also be fine with a smaller Ultra. Doubt it would happen though.

One could only hope that the extra space afforded by a thinner logic board would be assigned to a higher capacity battery. The watch has enough features for now (when the pulse oxygen suit is settled).
hard disagree! The battery has gotten amazing in the past couple years. I'd pick either a thinner watch or more health monitoring features over more power, no question.

Never thought it would come to this, but I am still using my Apple Watch Original as my daily driver for the 9th year. I hope the design can change a little bit as I have no interest in getting the 9th gen. Yes, they increased the screen a little, yes the bezels are thinner, but overall it's too similar to the original. Perhaps the rumoured flatter edges model could be the next direction so it goes along with the flat edges of every other device they are currently producing. No clue what we will get this year, but so far, it's boring and, frankly, I haven't felt the need to change my watch. I'm just impressed they built something that is holding up for so long, so no complaints there.

EDIT: I know there is Ultra, but that's an overkill for my use.

When I started reading this post, I was sure the material was going to be Liquid Metal
With the push to AI, if they did mention Liquid Metal, I could only hope the manufacturing company would be called Cyberdyne Systems!

as long as new health sensors are added, all good and great.
If instead we're getting more "AI" stuff, no thank you
I'm just waiting for the follow up that says "New Material allowing for thinner logic board..... AND room for the new watch neural engine for the new watch AI coming this fall!"

I'm still waiting on whatever it will take for the sensors to work with tattoos. Extended one last year not realizing the issues it would cause.

I would assume there was a reason the NPU was updated in the latest Apple Watch…

I think people need to get the message that Apple has not suddenly in the last year or two decided AI was important in response to their competitors.

They’ve been making sure the hardware has the capability for whatever they’re working on already. That’s years of planning and implementation. Apple doesn’t chase headlines (*cough* stock price bumps *cough*) on their products until they’re ready to actually unveil it.

I’m on the Series 9 and if you do a couple workouts and use the watch for cooking timers with moderate use, you’re looking at low battery by a late bedtime.
Also on Series 9, and working out ~45 min per day… maybe the timers are just really inefficient 😛

Series 6 battery is at 80% health so I will probably update to a Series 10 or X or whatever they call it. I wish they had flat panels like the Ultra on the regular series.
Agree. I really like the flat panel. But not sure I need the more rugged design,

They might be…or I’m just cooking too much food? LOL.

But seriously, I’m working out usually an hour or so a day. Battery life is pretty good but it could be better.

yes, and storage was also increased to 64GB last year for no apparent reason, for me at least ...
and sure, AI is trending and a hot topic right now, but, health is an even hotter topic imho and has been for years. And we have not yet seen true improvements in health sensors in a few years from Apple.
So maybe they will focus more on AI, even though I quite frankly fail to see how the AW can benefit from that (though I'm open to be convinced otherwise), but where they really should have focussed the last few years are the health sensors ...

I’ve yet to see much of a “why” from any of the “AI” “products” out there now (despite MS reps begging to demo the $30 a month CoPilot to us 🙄).

The one company I trust to make “it” *useful* to me in life? Apple. It won’t be on the form of some long form chatbot, of that I’m certain.

When an Apple Watch with blood sugar and blood pressure monitoring comes out, that’s when I’ll change my current one for it (2020 model, don’t even know which series. Probably series 6. Or 4. Who cares).

Just leaving this note here for Apple so they know what I’m looking for.

Price will have to be acceptable too (I don’t know the prices these days but I paid around 400 € for mine. I’ll be ready to pay the same price again but probably not more).

I have heard of microled, blood pressure, blood sugar sensor, and other vaporware on Apple Watch.

This will never come out or be cancelled in a few years

Make an Apple Watch Air with reduced functionality but half the thickness of the current watch and I will update from my AW4. There is no reason to upgrade atm.
I have AW 4 too… besides needing a new battery within the next year or so… i see absolutely no need to upgrade. I just use standard Apple watch features, nothing more. And AW4 does that awesomely.

Just pointing this out, it’s not “vaporware” when the company has never made a single announcement on those features coming down the road.

Rumors, even if they are true, do not mean a company has promised you anything until they actually announce it.

Oops you are right. But i think you got my point. Rumors are not imaginary stuff, they have to leak from somewhere

I mean just look at Apples patent filings and you can clearly see that they are actively working on them.

But take a wider look at the state of these technologies. They simply aren’t ready yet in any form of mass production, let alone small enough to package into already existing form factors.

Apple can’t bend the laws of physics when it comes to where we are on non-invasive blood glucose monitoring.

While I’d like a brushed stainless (I even brushed an old series 0), brushed doesn’t really show scratching less. If anything, I think the bright reflections of polished steel hide the scratching. My brushed link bracelet looks way worse than my polished watch.

That's valid. For you. I'd like to be able to use the watch for at least 48 hours without charging, so I could wear it overnight one day and charge it the next.

Really? For my non-Apple Watches, I’ve not found this to be the case. Of course, they are Seikos and may have superior scratch protection on the brushed finishing.
