I am hoping that they will release a version that sit IN the ear as EarPods / AirPods just fall out or have to be rammed in and become really uncomfortable very quickly.

I must have odd shaped ears, but the silicone in ear types work waaaaay better for me.

If / when apple realease them.... I would be first in the queue
yes most definitely, my wife uses my AirPods as I have to put foam covers on them so they stay in my ear. I use the Earin M2 now and I love them, especially aft the update. Saying that though the connectivity and call quality is amazing on the AirPods and if they made and in ear version I would be so there. Also you get a bit of noise cancelation. and seriously you probably represent about 20% of the ears maybe more, I know a few people who can't wear them, mostly men with larger ears.

Usually when one complains about Apple's "One size fits all" philosophy one is being metaphorical (in griping, for ex., that we are stuck with wishy-washy pale blue on white interfaces for no better reason than that Jony Ives happens to like that look and refuses to offer us any alternatives). In this case I mean this complaint very literally. The damn things just don't fit my ears to the point I feel secure wearing them (and I'm a very sedentary guy). These are probably the world's only in-ear phones that don't come with a variety of tips. So my set spends its time floating around in my sock drawer.

Before buying, you should try the wired set that came along with your iPhone, which are exactly the same in shape. If they don't work for you, don't buy these ones. I wish I hadn't.

AirPods have been unbelievably successful, really hit it out of the park. Even the price is right, cheaper(?!?!) than Bose, Jabra, Sennheiser, etc. Granted it's not premium sound but do sound great anyways. The W1 chip, automatic pairing, is extremely convenient.

Now they plan on adding health features? It's going to be a smashing success again. The public is eating up anything health related currently.
and yes they are cheaper then others in its category, and I mean ones that actually work well and sound good.
Silly folks say Apple doesn't innovate. But AirPods took over the wireless headphone market. I'd say it is a toss up as to which is more dominate in their respective markets, AirPods or Apple's Watch. Both are great. Both are very innovative.

Though for the last three weeks I haven't been able to find my AirPods! I'm sure they are somewhere. And the free Beats that I got with some Apple purchase a year or two ago are working great in this cold weather. So no worries. But if they are truly lost, then I'm going to hold off until these come out. Heck, I'm likely buying these even if I find my old ones.

Well if it doesn't monitor anything other than heartbeat, then I'd agree. Though many folks will have AirPods but not Apple Watch. But could it monitor temperature? Or something else?
you can use find my iPhone, your AirPods should show up on the list, assuming they still have charge enough to show up on your network.

Add support for changing the volume? Nah f*ck that, we're just gonna add heart rate tracking or something.
When u find an Apple product at discounted price at Costco, you know an update is coming soon.
Yeah my mom picked up a pair for like 139

You should try the Sony WF-1000X then you would realize how inferior the sound of the AirPods are. We are not talking audiophile quality here at all, but If you think the sound quality of the Airpods are just fine, then you haven’t had a chance to try out something else. I own both the Airpods and the Sony WF-1000X and even the most tone deaf person can hear the difference.
I’m sure they sound better. Like I said, AirPods sound fine, and it’s all about the instant stable connection and integration with the W chip. Plus, see what happens if you run those Sonys through the wash. For me, seamless, immediate, stable pairing beats whatever audio quality gains may be had elsewhere.

If you cannot get more than an hour on a full charge, something is wrong with your product, not the product design. I've been using my AirPods almost daily since December of 2016 and I still get over 3 hours with the original battery. That's a fair amount of degradation from the original 5 hours I was getting but these are tiny, fast charging batteries being used regularly for over 2 years so it seems reasonable.

As far as audio quality, that's a more subjective thing and is more about the kind of audio you listen to. I don't hear any difference between my AirPods and my EarPods but I also don't usually listen to classical music. In all the side-by-side music tests I've ever participated in, the only difference I can discern between wireless and wired headphones has been when I was listening to classical music with a full orchestra. I cannot hear any difference when listening to rock or pop for instance and have difficulty believing when people tell me they can clearly tell the difference between wired and wireless sources for those genres. But that's just the wireless aspect and my own opinion.

If you listen to a high-quality audio, then the difference is quite big. :)

There is more to a good wireless earbud than sound quality. The reviews suggest inferior connection strength, battery life and price when compared to AirPods.
If you can’t get the basics, sound quality doesn’t matter.
AirPods are impressive because they do so many thing right, even if the sound is average.
I'm not comparing the Airpods vs Sony overall. I'm well aware of the shortcomings of the Sonys such as the connection issues or the battery life, yet the sound quality of the Airpods are barely adequate for music and leave a lot to desire for a better sound.

Hence I own both and use my AirPods a lot, but I wish the sound quality was at least as good or better than the Sonys.

My AirPods only get 2 hours on a charge now so I’m holding off buying anymore until the new ones find out.

My only AirPods dissatisfier is a slightly loose fit. Apple could solve that by making them with a modular or snug silicone insert, like the Sonys and others (and the sound quality would improve) but then they’d be more expensive, like the Sonys and others, and folks would then complain about that.

So I understand your use case, when do you use each? In my case, I use AirPods day to day, for phone conversations and some incidental listening, often when they’re in anyway. For listening sessions –never out in a noisy environment – I use actual over the ear cans (or my home stereo setup) which unquestionably blow the any earbuds out of the water. Since you have AirPods, when are you using the Sonys?

I use the AirPods exactly the same way as you do: day to day, for phone conversations and some incidental listening. For serious listening sessions, I prefer to use my Sony MDR-V6 wired Studio Monitors, (mostly at home and in a quiet environment of course). For noisy environments, I use the Sony WH-1000XM3 Noise Cancelling cans. However, when I travel, most of the times, I prefer to leave the bulky over-the-ear headphones at home for weight and space savings and take both the AirPods and the Sony WF-1000X with me.

For most uses, AirPods are just fine but in an airplane they don't block any of the external noise and make music listening rather unpleasant. That is when the Sony WF-1000X with its active noise cancelling and noise isolation comes to play.

How about a set that won't fall out of my ears?
Yes, maybe they should have you come in so that they can mold a pair specifically to your individual ear dimensions instead of just making one size that fits the vast majority of people.

All in with Sony, I see. So you have the Sony buds only to use on flights?

Yes, and the sound quality is significantly better than the AirPods but obviously no match for a full size over-the-ear headphones. The biggest shortcoming of the Sony buds is the infamous and well documented occasional momentary right earbud connection hiccup.

Ease of use, user interface, W1 chip and flawless phone use for the AirPods are unmatched by any other earbuds that I know. I just wish Apple would pay more attention to the sound quality.

I also read that if you want to use a single bud and put the other in the case, they both turn off. True? If so, ugh.

Re sound quality, I’m sure a better seal would help. I wonder how something like this would improve both sound and fit. I won’t try them because it will stop them from slipping into the charging case (and maybe block tap sensing) but if you do, pls post your experience. Still no match for ANC if that’s what you’re looking for.

If we are talking about the Sonys, no you can use a single bud while the other one is in the case but..... since the left bud is the master and the right one is the slave, you have to use the left bud alone. At least since the buds are not different in shape, you can use it in any ear you wish.

As for a better sound quality for the AirPods, I find them base heavy. So a better seal in fact would further accentuate the base while not helping for the lack of highs. In fact, I cheat sometimes to flip the stems upward to get a better seal, or wear them in opposite ears. For my ears, both method gives me a better seal but when I do that I have to get into the EQ settings and select the “Bese Reducer”. Apple just need to improve the drivers that’s all.

What does high quality audio even mean? Is 320 kbps high but 256 kbps not high quality? Is vinyl high quality but CD not high quality? Can "high quality" audio even be heard over bluetooth 5.0? Can only some music genres be truly high quality? These are questions that most people don't even consider and I stopped asking years ago because I value other things over audio fidelity in my life. It's fine to seek out and chase high quality in many things but at some point you begin to realize that you are speaking a dead language that most around you do not have any intention of ever learning.

I lost my AirPods in the work parking lot a few weeks back. I didn't find them until a week later. In that time we had experienced snow, a 7F day and a 2-3" rain storm. Upon first try, the AirPods still had power, were able to charge and are still working 2 weeks later.

Unexpected and impressive.
