If we don't hear about new apple displays this fall, then its next spring at the earliest.

If they are even a real thing.

I will add.

If we don't get new iMacs this fall, then unless apple plans on shipping a 27" and a 32" stand alone display, we will not get a new apple display till the imac m1x ship.

I don't see why this year would be any different to other years in terms of monitors. The M1 chip doesn't enable new or better monitors. I really don't see why Apple would release a monitor at the moment. Especially considering that it would have to be backwards compatible at least several years to actually sell.

The Hauwei seems the best bet if you want a big, HiDPI monitor that isn't $5000.

just going off Gurman rumor where he said they were working on them. he could totally be wrong. or they could totally cancel the project of course.

As a computer user who does a lot of word processing and coding I would take 3:2 ratio 4K over 16:9 ratio 5K any day.

I also think 218 dpi "retina" density is overkill for most of us. I work on 94dpi, 122dpi, 185dpi, and 267 dpi displays, and I feel that 122dpi is only a little under the sharpness I need. So the 160dpi of the Hauwei should be very decent.
Not a gamer either and most of my work is text - writing and coding also. I have a Pro Display on my M1 Mini which is most definitely overkill for the job, although the huge work space is much better (for myself) than two side by side 27" monitors. Still, the awesomeness of the newly purchased display is like that of when getting a new Mac - or a new car. It wears off fast and just becomes an unnoticed item in the workday.

Until, that is, when I move to my old iMac to run a 32 bit program. Then I wonder how Apple ever managed to convince me to purchase a box with such a crappy display.

Sumthin' tells me this is not going to be a "consumer-priced" display.

Rather, it looks like it MIGHT become a display sold with the m-series Mac Pro when it finally arrives.

I will guess (and this is ONLY "a guess") that the m-series Mac Pro will not have internal provisions for adding/changing the GPU (which will probably be incorporated into the "unified memory" design anyway).

Thus, the only way to boost video performance levels "above" that of the internal GPU may be to use an external GPU, and the only one that may work is one of Apple's own design, integrated INTO a high-end display.

Having said that, the display MIGHT work as well with other Macs.

That's what I see coming.
Again, only a guess.

I need Schiller Part II to come on stage and say for a MacBook once again, "And yes it's got a killer new display!"

The last I heard that was in 2012. Nothing since then. And Apple evangelists will come and say "there's more to a display than pixels" and I agree, but today we do need a proper 2K display, not 1440x900 doubled. The 13" models are 1280x800 doubled, and 16" are 1536x960 doubled.

It is beyond funny.

Here is a video of someone using Photoshop and Premiere Pro on the new Mateview 3:2 monitor. Apple really need to change their aspect ratios because this looks a lot more useful than a 5K iMac.

Interesting. its 4k but how does the shape affect the pixel width / height compared to a regular 4K?

I could see myself using it at that rez. i don't mind "smaller" looking menu items etc.

thx. looking forward it arriving for the US sales market.

Fact is most people don't care about high dpi screens or most of the people just have bad eyes. Trying to find something to replace my 2x27inch LG's (4k en 1440p). Especially 1440p on 27inch is awful with 109dpi.
Seeing the recommendation the 38inch wide screen from LG and it's dpi also 109dpi, no thanks.
Give me something with 8k on 38inch.

And now with the rumor that the mac mini pro m1x is going to be pushed back to 2022 i think there is no way we are getting a new apple one this year.

Having said that. WHY? are the LG 5Ks so delayed?

Shipping Nov 24 - Dec 8 — $8.00

Shipping / pandemic

Or.

New displays at end of month by apple that answers all our hopes and dreams?

Cough.

"New displays at end of month by apple that answers all our hopes and dreams?"

No.

Fishrrman fearless prediction:
Those "hopes and dreams" may never be answered.
At least, not by Apple.

I doubt this month at least. They need to match the new iMac size which we will not get till spring now.

I'm coming at this from the perspective that they will either release two consumer-level sizes of displays that will match the current and rumored iMac display sizes, or they will just release the larger version. I personally don't see Apple releasing just a 24in external display.

Why we are getting new external displays at Monday's event:
• It seems plausible that new iMacs will be announced. The phrase "Big Things" has been used to promote the current iMac line. It's also being used to promote the event on Monday. Perhaps a 30in (or larger) display size?
• I believe the 24in LG Thunderbolt display was discontinued and possibly the 32in 27in 5K one as well. Neither one are available from LG.com.
• The 32in 27in LG display is only sporadicly available at West Coast Apple stores. It doesn't seem to be available anywhere east of the Mississippi.
• Both LG displays are showing at least a 1-2 week delay in shipping.

Why we are not getting new external displays on Monday:
• The 27in iMac is very well stocked at pretty much all Apple stores, so a replacement seems unlikely. Thus a larger external display seems unlikely.
• The delays with the LG monitor could be nothing more than a supply chain issue.
• I've learned never to get my hopes up about a new external display.

The other possibility is that they will announce (via press release) another partnership with LG or someone to provide displays. Which...ugh...I think the LG displays are so ugly.

The next question...would the new displays have a notch?

Wait...Nevermind. I don't want to know.

Edited to change 32in to 27in. The LG 5K monitors were 27in instead of 32in. Thank you @xraydoc for pointing that out!

The LG/Apple 5K monitor is (was) 27", not 32".

A new iMac would be a major surprise, as the rumor mill hasn't said much. But it would be a nice surprise, as would an Apple-branded display. But I have low expectations.

I want 5K. I have a 4K next to my imac 5K and its downright blurry compared to the imac.
