In a research note shared with MacRumors today, Barclays analysts said they expect Apple to report record Mac shipments in the 2021 fiscal year. Apple has seen strong demand for Macs driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and the release of Apple silicon Macs.

With rumors indicating that Apple plans to release redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with Apple silicon in the second half of this year, at least one supplier is planning to ramp up capacity in anticipation of strong demand.

According to DigiTimes, Taiwanese manufacturer Compeq has already seen its high-density circuit board production capacity fully booked for the first half of 2021, and it will be expanding its capacity in the second half of the year to help ease the situation. The publication claims that Compeq will register a strong first half of 2021, bolstered by volume shipments of the circuit boards for new MacBooks and iPads.

Nikkei Asia recently reported that Apple will begin mass production of two new MacBooks with Apple silicon in the second half of the year. This timeframe should provide ample time for Apple's suppliers to ramp up production for a launch later in the year. A redesigned iMac with Apple silicon is also expected to debut at some point this year.

According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new MacBook Pro models will feature brighter displays with Mini-LED backlighting, a new design with a flat-edged top and bottom, an HDMI port and SD card reader, classic MagSafe charging with a magnetic power cable, and physical function keys instead of the Touch Bar.

Apple stopped disclosing unit sales a few years ago, but in Q1 2021, Apple reported record quarterly Mac revenue of $8.7 billion. The quarter encompassed the launch of the first three Macs with Apple's custom-designed M1 chip, which has received rave reviews.

It will sell yes, but I think it won't run like the MacBook Air M1.

The M1 is more than enough for most people, and the mass are now Apples strongest customers.
In addition to that people has less money in their pockets, due to all the lock downs and following unemployed.

Mobile phones just sold so well despite corona, because most people finance them subventioned in contracts, and mobile phones has a higher status in peoples mind, and it helped people to stay in touch.

IMO most people, even techies, still underestimate these chips. I said this before the first release and performance numbers too.
Really? A lot of techies I have seen on YouTube (Linus for example) are blown away by the performance.

It seems I am one of just the few who will definitely miss touchbar.
I find it very usefull for music controls and text styling. For me this is a step back.
As was the new Magic Keyboard (again, for me) step back from slim butterfly keyboard.
And thats just because Apple couldnt find a way to fix butterfly keyboard in 4th gen.
I hate my MBP16 keyboard, this laptop feels cheaper in every single way, compared to previous MBP15 19' touchbar.
Unpopular opinion: I hope butterfly and touchbar come back some day :)

Haha, these kinds of messages. Well, if this MacBook is anything that the rumors are claiming, of course it'll sell really well because you're actually listening to your customers:

- Bring back common ports so people dont have to carry stupid dongles. It's easier and cheaper.
- Bring back MagSafe. Removing this was literally the dumbest decision. But I get it if charging had to go through USB-C. But MagSafe is just brilliant for safety.
- Remove the stupid Touch Bar.

In the end, all Apple actually had to do was use the 2015 MacBook Pro chassis, improve internals, screen etc, add a couple USB-C ports for future-proofing and be done with it.

I mean two things. Mainly, they underestimate how the second gen will perform. For the current gen, the numbers mostly speak for themselves, but still a lot of techies are in denial to the extent they can be with the wiggle room the numbers allow, and normal people just aren't aware.

I was hyped about the first gen pre-release because I looked at iPhone CPU benchmarks. Websites rarely compare them directly to PC CPUs, but they've been faster overall than low-power x86 CPUs and faster single-core than desktop ones for years already. For second gen, I'm expecting these things to be scaled up (not linearly ofc) and producing more heat, and I'm expecting the multi-core scores to be competitive with high-end desktop CPUs.

Yes, I'd have liked an AS 2015 MBP with 2 USB-C ports added. Best laptop design ever. I'll probably settle for having HDMI at least.
Off-topic, do you by chance have an M139 or M138?

I have a 2015MBP if I could upgrade the the processor to M1, and upgrade the screen I would honestly do it perfect machine.

Only upgrade from MBA M1 I'd consider is lighter Surface Pro X type device with touch and pen inputs and better webcam. WWAN and replaceable SSD are big pluses but don't expect Apple to give us everything at once.
Yeah me, too. I had a Surface Pro 7, it was great, sadly the Pen Input and battery time sucked.
