And why would you assume that?

Increasing the sensor size would mean larger, thicker lens to cover the entire sensor. Do you really think Apple would make the display thicker and/or create a camera bump on the MacBook just for the sake of improving video calls that's carried over a lossy UDP protocol? I don't.

only if they give me back some legacy ports. I want an HDMI connection and at least one USB A.
I would hope for a power connector in the style of the old MagSafe adapter but with all the USB-C connections, and Apple selling the MacBook with a choice of just charger, or a USB-C hub with charger. And then two USB-C ports, which lets most users attach a big hard drive and charge your phone, and lets old users with lots of legacy devices attach another USB-C hub. I can't see any legacy ports on the MacBook itself.

It depends how Apple price the new models. Cost is still the number one factor for most people when choosing a laptop.
They should get the prices back down to pre Touch Bar era, like 1799/1999 for the base (15"...now 16"model) model.
But, it's Apple, don't believe they will lower prices, instead they will keep the existing prices and include a much more expensive titanium body.

I have a MBA m1 and i am more than happy with it, impresive machine for the money. But a HDMI or SD card new slot won´t make me change it. The only thing i miss in this system is having a 10-15Tflops gpu instead of 2,5...So i will wait for the 2022-23 Imacs with M3-4 and meanwhile i will spend my money in Navi2/GA hardware...

Ahem.

All these folks clamoring for "ports", like the HDMI, SD card, USBa, MagSafe...?
Haven't we been there before...?

Remember when we were being told (by MANY posters right in this forum) how the "old" ports had become obsolete, and how USBc was the way of the future...?

Ahem...

Of course they will sell. You put in the ports back in, through out butterfly keyboards, masterpiece processor...it all makes sense. Not to mention during the pandemic everything is turning online and from home.

One loop hole in all of this is that...everyone says they are making less money and economy is down, yet these premium Macs and $1K phones are still selling crazy high. How does that work?

The target demographic for these Macs are able to purchase them?

Exactly, they really didnt need to make it thinner. And by doing this, the usb-a ports didnt fit anymore and the laptops overal got more problems with heat because of the smaller chassis.

And no, the M139 (Sport GT S) is literally my favorite car ever, but I'm debating on wether to get that or a GranTurismo.
How about you?
The fact that they can fit HDMI in the upcoming one suggests maybe USB-A is doable, but I have no idea how HDMI fits.

I have the 2006 M139 Sport GT with DuoSelect. I really wanted a full manual one, and this is the closest thing. So that makes two things I want that aren't produced, but I'm still happy with my M139.

I don't want these ports. I have zero need for HDMI as DisplayPort is far better in my experience so I need two of those. And I bet the addition of an HDMI port will take away the potential of me using two DisplayPort to USB-C cables.

I'm willing to bet the 14 and 16 coming out sell the first run. The "pro" market is waiting for a macbook pro that trounces everything but multi core desktops, and a 12 core 16" with 32GB RAM would do that in a heartbeat.

I'm looking to be able to replace in portable form my 12 core 3.33ghz, 24GB RAM Mac Pro here. I think a lot of people are in my situation. The only thing about the mac pro is it's ancient chip speed. the 12 cores means I'm good for most projects barring a few VSTi plug ins that brick the CPU of a single core.

The first M1 iteration is great but it's not beating the i9 8 core in pure track count in audio apps etc. , and nobody wants a laptop that instantly gets outshined by the next AMD mobile chips. If Apple play this right the combination of low fan noise and on par or better than AMD mobile power in a laptop will get massive sales coming in. Desktop level performance in a laptop is what I've wanted since I bought the 2nd gen 667mhz powerbook G4 almost 20 years ago.

16’’, Face ID, borderless, wifi 6E, detachable screen that become iPad Pro, 120Hz mini led touch screen, variable refresh rate

all these or no buy 😊
Might as well add in a matte black finish and fast wireless charging, while we are on this dream train...

(a) these are all rumours.
(b) a company caving to whiners and moaners doesn’t change the fact that tb3/USB-c ports are a better solution to the problem of external I/O.

Sshhh. Don’t mention that. You’re talking to people who value a slight inconvenience for themselves as if it were a mortal sin against their soul, while making something impossible for other users is just “oh well too bad so sad”.

more megapixels doesn’t mean it’ll look better. actually would perform worse since each pixel receives less light assuming the same sensor size.

I thought an improvement in camera quality can’t harm. More modern sensors usually pack better picture quality with them. Camera quality on MacBooks has a reputation of being bad, it should be the opposite.

After making a video explaining how wrong his previous statements were, I believe, he reversed course.
Did you go by just the title of the video (people have brought this up thinking the title means he is changing his mind)?

Are you referring to this video? If yes, please watch. Its a clickbait title and he praises the M1 extremely.

I must have stopped at the click bait. Probably had one too many (of his videos).

Edit: no way I’m watching another 17 minutes more of this guy.

Then don’t say he changed his mind. He said Apple has a problem that it will be difficult to one up what they have done.

He also called the silicon announcement a slow motion dumpster fire on Nov 11. The entire video is one embarrassment.

But teenagers that play with computers like him, so he’ll stick around for a while more I fear.

He said the marketing was, which I agree with. Just saying something is 3x better than “something” doesn’t help things.

It seems I am one of just the few who will definitely miss touchbar.
I find it very usefull for music controls and text styling. For me this is a step back.
As was the new Magic Keyboard (again, for me) step back from slim butterfly keyboard.
And thats just because Apple couldnt find a way to fix butterfly keyboard in 4th gen.
I hate my MBP16 keyboard, this laptop feels cheaper in every single way, compared to previous MBP15 19' touchbar.
Unpopular opinion: I hope butterfly and touchbar come back some day :)
I was thinking the same thing--as far as the touch bar. It is one of those technologies that is great out of the gate, but requires a different way of thinking about how to use your laptop, which I admit, I almost always forget to use. To me, the Touch Bar was an ingenious middle-ground approach to having a laptop with a touch interface. I absolutely do not want to touch my screen. Not because of smudges (although there is that) but because I don't want an OS for computer use that assumes I want to be frequently taking my hands away from the keyboard/trackpad area. Too bad about the touchpad. I haven't used the new MBP 16 keyboard, but I have a 2019 MBP 13" with the butterfly keyboard and I mostly hate it. I've gotten used to it, for sure, but I am waiting for it to fail. I have on numerous occasions had to blow out normal every day things that cause key fails, and so far have been able to do it on my own. Dumb. Really dumb. I miss the keyboard from my 2013 MBP. It had heft, travel, comfort, and longevity. Yes, too heavy, too "thick," and some people might have thought it clumsy.
