Xenon is high end mac pro but that has slowly been outdated by the new i7 chips. I would assume that the iMac uses the new extreme i7 quad in the high end models considering the new alienware laptops are doing the same. MacBook pros use everything but the extreme chips (battery life purposes) in the past, but the iMacs do the same and allow extreme upgrade because they are plugged into the wall. Xenon is a custom chip that is a nethalem altered "slightly" for the mac pros. A slimmed down version probably wouldn't happen because that is an old chipsets. Think more towards the newly released intel i7's

I really don't see the big deal with it being thinner.

It's not like it's a laptop and I carry it around, if it is half an inch thinner that doesn't do anything for me, it's sitting on my desk, who cares?

The new iMac could actually contain a xeon....ok there may be some heat issues in a 20 or 24 inch model........but if they dropped it into a 30 incher there is alot more space to play with :) I don't think for one second they will do it though !!! When is the launch of windows 7? Perhaps these new shiny things will come out the same day as a spolier !! :)

Probably all those same people who keep looking at the back of their iMacs to "complain" about it being plastic instead of aluminium. ;)

Is it just me who doesn't really use the SD card slots?

I've never used them. I had a PC laptop a few years ago with every port and slot you could imagine and I never used any of them lol.

I am very curious about this new mouse. I have been expecting some sort of new mouse that would enable multi-touch on the desktops for a while. I am a bit torn because I love the multi-touch features but I also need precision with video editing and photoshopping etc. Whatever Apple introduces I hope it is the best of both worlds!

Yep, I'm excited for a new mouse with multitouch too. I couldn't care less if they shaved off an inch from the iMac. Like someone said, its on my desk, so I don't really care.

I hope the new mouse isn't epic fail like the Mighty Mouse.

I gave up on the Mighty Mouse a few weeks ago and bought a Logitech VX Nano. 100 times superior to the MM. I will see if a new mouse emerges from Apple and if its worth getting.

Quad core (finally) would be nice. But isn't going to matter to me if they continue to only produce iMacs with screens I can not use (glossy/glass).

Come on Apple, we get NINE different iPod Nano color choices but you won't offer a matte display option across your product line?

That looks quite good. I would hope it's just as heavy as the normal Mighty Mouse, as I like my mice to be heavy.

I wouldn't mind if they would actually make it aluminium. I would pick that one up in a heartbeat and be prepared to pay 150 dollars for it.

The pessimist in me says that the reason the new iMac is thinner is because it will use the Intel Atom processor.:(

The optimist in me says that the new iMac will use a Quad Core processor.:)

I really do hope that this is true and that I can finally buy a Quad Core iMac that is faster than my current iMac.

I'd also love to see a Quad Core on the MacBook Pro.

That is a good catch on the L3426 processor. There is no reason why that processor could not fit in an iMac.

Better performance and cost then the new Clarksfield processor with the same power usage. It wouldn't surprise me if intel would create a custom processor run for the iMac like they did previously.

agreed +1

check out new Clarksfield processor and xeon processor

SD slot?

SD slot from Apple, in an iMac? In 2009 or 2010? You gotta be kidding! Isn't it a bit early?

What's next? Firewire?

quadcore is an absolute requirement in the new iMac lineup.

Why? Why do people need quad core for everyday tasks like email etc? Even games don't use these cores effectively. But then if you want all that power for games why the hell did you buy a Mac? If you're extensively encoding video why haven't you got a Mac Pro? Are silly benchmark figures all that mater to some people?

Actually the 2002 was mine but if they do a Quad Core based on Intel's i7 Quad Core Chipset plus LED back-lit then yeah I'm going for it. I see 2TB HD as a option plus or Maybe NVIDA GTX285 512MB or 1GB? If they do this then got to go ALL 8-Core on the Mac Pro line. Plus a i7 in MacBook Pro! 2010 is the of Mac or Year of X! :D

Would be a dream come true!

I don't mind the scrollball as much as the terrible tracking of the mighty mouse. I'm actually using just the trackpad because it's so convenient: right below the spacebar, easy noiseless scrolling, etc.

I wish Apple made an external trackpad.

These iMac news are interesting. Gotta replace my bedroom desk though, it resonates at the same frequency a 7200rpm hard drive spins which is more than annoying. :)

I assume you mean Xeon.

1. The Xeon chips in the Mac Pro are Nehalem which is the same architecture as Core i7.

2. Xeon is Intel's server line of CPU, designed for continuous heavy loading. So the Mac Pro does indeed use Core i7 archtecture.

3. The Xeon processors in the current Mac Pro are off the shelf components available to other OEMs. They are not altered for the Mac Pro.
