You and all the other gloating people who are mocking people for buying the iPhone 4, seem to forget, or don't have the capacity to comprehend one vital fact.

That being that a lot of iPhone 4 owners bought the device on launch day when the "issue" wasn't known about, and on the subsequent days before the "issue" was made public knowledge.

I bought my iPhone 4 the day after launch, there was no mention of antenna problems. So drop the condescending tone towards iPhone 4 owners. Not everyone bought one after the "issue" became public knowledge, yet you blanket case every single iPhone 4 owner with your mockery.

I hope you get the fulfilment in life that you're looking for from "mocking" people who bought a mobile phone.

+1 :)

We need a 7" iPad because it will fit into the side pocket of a lab coat. That opens the market to medical/dental clinics, hospitals, and laboratories of all descriptions. Convenience sells.

How do you know that? Did you calculate the dimensions of the 7" and measure your pockets? because if you look at this image, you would need freakishly larger pockets:

Even if that did fit, a 5" iPad/touch will fit in even more pockets than freakishly large ones and will be much less hassle to carry while still providing a nice big one handed interface(Dell Streak for illustrative purpose):

In Reality Apple isn't very good at filling holes in it's product line. I doubt there will be anything between the Touch and the iPad.

Hi all, newbie here, so please be gentle.

Do you think they'll drop the 8 gig iPod Touch with the new releases? Is that why they are lowering the price?

I only ask because my wife and I have considered buy a couple twice this month. What is the general consensus - wait until the new releases, or snatch these up?

And, any thoughts on the base model's price?

Most likely they are just clearing stock. Even if they drop the 8 Gig, than another model (16 Gig) will be put in the vacant spot at a similar or slightly higher pricepoint. The iPod Touch is so successful that Apple will not increase prices to such an extent that the people that are in the market for the 8 Gig pricepoint would go elsewhere. So I would suggest you wait, because you will get a new model for most likely the same money with probably these features:
  • retina display (it makes a huuuuuuuuuge difference)
  • New design
  • Larger memory
  • Faster
  • Front facing camera

I have an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3G. The design is so much different that the iPhone 3G feels ancient compared to the iPhone 4. If the iPod touch gets a similar overhaul, that alone would be a reason to wait.

I agree with you on the filling holes part, but I guess Apple also thinks whether there is an actual purpose for filling those holes. If I look at that Dell Streak thing than two things spring to mind:
  • I wouldn't be caught dead with a thing of this size pressed to my ears. It's too large to make calls with and it also wouldn't fit in any of my pockets.
  • Probably a nice browsing experience, but if I look at the wasted screen estate in that calling screenshot, than I'm thinking: "nice screen but they don't know how to use it efficiently".

So in total, I think Apple is on the right track with their Retina displays. don't make the devices larger. Make the screen better. Some people will need to squint etc. but at least we won't be walking around with cellphones that are larger than the one that Gordon Gekko received when he was released from jail...

Bigger is not always better. But everyone with a small one says that.. :)

Maybe in January there will be a 4GS but not 5th generation iphone. We may get verizon which is highly unlikely since verizon isn't accepting the iphone and apple's contract with at&t dont end until 2012

There is a lot of speculation that the contract between AT&T and Apple will terminate at the end of this year. Parties to contracts must all abide by its terms. Presumably the contract had language that AT&T had to provide adequate levels of service in order to retain exclusivity. There is enough out there that AT&T's service has not been adequate in many areas of the country.
So, a Verizon iphone is possible in 2011.

Even if a party doesn't live up to a contract it doesn't automatically allow the other party to terminate the contract. Often it merely results in money flowing from one party to the other.
