Edit: sorry, I guess your comment makes sense referencing iPad mini, which they don't mention in gold. My bad.

Fun fact - "space gray" is a color that was offered on many recent BMW models in the past few years.

I suspect that the space grey is replacing the slate black due to the numberous complaints of scratching and colour coming off the slate black when the iPhone 5 was introduced.

I really like the grey too.
They are probably replacing the slate because it is a scratch and dent magnet. I have a black iPhone 5 and the thing looks like hell and I take really good care of it. Wish they kept using stainless steel but that's to heavy for apple.

As for the iPad, I prefer the white/silver one.
Where has this irritating "easier to make" meme come from? When has Apple ever done anything because it's easier? Stamping out cheap Toshiba plastic laptop cases is a lot "easier" than aluminium MacBooks, do you think they'll switch back to that?
I think most of us were expecting this as soon as they replaced the slate iPod nano with Space Grey. It does look nice though.
Lol kidding, if I was plan on getting an iPhone 5S or iPad Mini the color wouldn't make a single difference as they'd go straight into a case.
