It totally sucks!
With the screen so close to the edge, it's pretty vulnerable when dropped.
It also looks cheap, as though to save money Apple kept the overall size, form factor and just pushed the screen out as far as it would go. It would be different if it was edge to edge top and bottom as well as side to side, but it's not.
But being the way that mockup shows, is just cheap and odd looking. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.
That said, there is a good chance that it's not even close to what Apple will release. There hasn't been many Apple products that I didn't like the design of.
My new MBA is just gorgeous. As is my 15 and 17" MBP's and my Mac Pro.. well you get the picture. I truly like Apple design.
Hopefully this next iPhone will have a fresh new look and be the phone that I KNOW Apple is capable of designing and building if they put forth the effort.

The image you posted just happened to be nearly the same as some we've been seeing regularly for months.
That said, I sincerely apologize for offending you, especially since that was the furthest thing from my mind.
Even when I disagree, I still remain open minded and can appreciate our differences as individuals.
In addition, I respect that you like that design. After all, we have different tastes. That's the beauty of choices.
Quite honestly I'd simply seen that basic look so many times, that today it just ticked me off, and illicited a stronger response.
My passion for Apple runs deep as a very long time customer, therefore I'm very outspoken when it comes to my thoughts.
I know that Apple watches this forum, therefore when people share their true preferences instead of just agreeing with all that Apple does, they benefit from honest customer feedback, not patronizing useless yes men, type comments.

I was imagining a portion of the top of the screen could just go black to match the 3:2 ratio of older iPhones (making it backward-compatible with no scaling) and give the user more space to grab onto the phone at the same time. But when you're in an app that doesn't require you to grip the phone or any app in portrait mode you'd have the extra space.
Also, I measured it and making the screen 16:9 (or 16:10, I forget what I made that design have) with the same number of horizontal (shorter side - 640) pixels gives exactly enough space to add one more row of icons tot he home screen and brings the screen to exactly 4 inches, if I remember corectly. Maybe coincidence, but interesting nonetheless.
I just need them to drop this thing already. As I've smashed my Droid Disaster...Oh I mean, Incredible. My Droid "Incredible," is in a million pieces and I have a feeling as soon as purchase an iphone 4 i'll be kicking myself when the new one comes out that very next day. Happens far too much with technology...can't risk it! Gotta go phoneless till she comes out!!!!
