Multiple MacRumors readers in the UK and Ireland have noticed that the built-in Weather app now supports next-hour precipitation readings, a feature that appears to have rolled out recently.

Next-hour precipitation details have been available in the United States and Canada since the launch of iOS 14, but had not expanded to other countries prior to this week. The new precipitation charts appear to be showing up for those running both iOS 14.4 and iOS 14.5.

Apple added next-hour precipitation to the Weather app after its acquisition of Dark Sky in March 2020. Precipitation charts offer minute-by-minute weather predictions based on precise location.

Update: Dutch website iCulture reports that the precipitation feature is appearing in The Hague, suggesting rollout is happening in the Netherlands and France, too.

Glad to hear they implemented the Dark Sky features into the stock weather app. I have used Dark Sky for years... does the Apple Weather app give notifications?

No notifications. But you can put the widget on your home screen and see the chart.
Thanks, I forgot about Widgets. I guess it's worth it to have both apps... then use Apple Weather for the widget and Dark Sky for the alerts. I appreciate the info.

For the UK you could pretty much just program it to say it will be raining and be correct 99% of the time. Same with Vancouver.

Now, if they had a one-tap link to show the radar overview...

Hi guys, I’ve just noticed this in the UK too at around midnight. Whilst I applaud the feature I don’t necessarily appreciate it on the largest of the widgets as there is a lot of empty space.

I had the widget at its largest so that it would show the forecast for the coming days? Is there any way I can get this back? Id much rather have that information on the widget than the hourly precipitation.

I don’t like the new weather app, you can’t scroll down it tries to jump either up to the top or to the bottom you can’t have it in the middle.

Me too. Switch to the BBC Weather app widget, it gives temperature info like Apple weather used to. I just have.

I want to know what the temperature is going to be going forward, not whether there is an 80% chance of rain or a 90% chance. Much more useful.

I went with HeyWeather on a whim but I’ll give BBC a go. I need a 4x4 widget as I only have two rows of my most used apps plus my dock below my stack.

Fascinating how even for such a minor feature, Apple is rolling this out country by country.
Queue the messages until 2035 when it becomes available in your region.
