Uh, no. I'm in New York and have never seen this. It must be regionally limited.

Multiple MacRumors readers in the UK and Ireland have noticed that the built-in Weather app now supports next-hour precipitation readings, a feature that appears to have rolled out recently.

Next-hour precipitation details have been available in the United States since the launch of iOS 14, but had not expanded to other countries prior to this week. The new precipitation charts appear to be showing up for those running both iOS 14.4 and iOS 14.5.

Apple added next-hour precipitation to the Weather app after its acquisition of Dark Sky in March 2020. Precipitation charts offer minute-by-minute weather predictions based on precise location.

Update: Dutch website iCulture reports that the precipitation feature is appearing in The Hague, suggesting rollout is happening in the Netherlands, too.

Is no one going to mention that 4 degrees should be snow and not showers???

I love DarkSky, agree with the poster above that it needs the rain radar before I use it over Dark Sky. Dark Sky for me is completely accurate in the Midlands.

I mean, it’s nice to get new features. But it’s made the widget pretty much useless. I had it on my home screen so I can see at a glance what the weather will be later. Now I can only see what the weather is now!

I wonder if it’ll be any more accurate ? It must b e the most useless weather app I’ve used pity but it’s a reality unfortunately

Hi guys, I’ve just noticed this in the UK too at around midnight. Whilst I applaud the feature I don’t necessarily appreciate it on the largest of the widgets as there is a lot of empty space.

I had the widget at its largest so that it would show the forecast for the coming days? Is there any way I can get this back? Id much rather have that information on the widget than the hourly precipitation.
Agreed - I’d rather (by default) see the forecast on the widget for the rest of the week, rather than a 1 hour forecast.

I’m comparing dark sky and the Apple weather app. They should have the same data, should they not? Both of them show completely different rain percentages and drizzle starting and stopping and different times.
Both apps have location services on and are using precise location.
does anyone know what’s going on?

example.
Apple. Drizzle ending in 15 mins
dark sky - ending in 5

apple - 40% chance of rain 10pm
Dark sky - 20% chance of rain 10pm

It appears to have disappeared again in the UK

It was present all day, but this evening .... it's gone
(and yes, I have checked 3 different iPhones, with and without wireless)

Regarding Next Hour Precipitation not available in any other countries (other than the US)- the feature has been available to Canadians since the beta version of iOS 14.

I’ve just noticed this too this evening and it’s not just gone on the widget but it’s also gone from the actual app too. Strange.

Perhaps they realised that half the information was missing from the widgets and pulled it? Or could it be that it only appears at certain times in the day?

Is there anyway to stop this appearing on the widget? I like it when there’s rain predicted but it just seems to be on constantly even when no rain is due. I prefer the hourly forecast.

Unfortunately not for the moment it seems. I’ve come across two Weather Apps so far that retain this feature AND have the largest widget size available. I have downloaded both. Currently trying to determine which I like best out of HeyWeather and ClimaCell. The BBC app is good too but unfortunately doesn’t have the largest size widget available.

OTOH once in a while it shows up like this! What’s up ?
