They are stock analysts paid to research companies and think of anything that might affect share price.

oh, please come on. I'm not that stupid. They are worthless and need the whole country to bail them out of their mess. You think I'd trust 2 small flies in goldman saccs ? Forget it. The 7-inch Shanzai rumor sounds more plausible right now than any. . .

Shanzai.com, a site that follows China's technology industry, has posted a rumor to the effect that Apple's next tablet will resemble "an oversized iPhone 4" rather than a smaller iPad. Shanzai says that they have "ears to the ground in Shenzen," the home of Apple contract manufacturer Foxconn, and that loose lips have stated that the 7" tablet is a "finished product."

Why do these reports of analysts pissing in the wind count as page 1 news?
exactly . . .

While I really want a standarazation in ports, I don't see how Apple can just give up the 30pin to which thousands of products have been made for. They would have to phase it in over 3-5 years.

Because this is an addictive interwebs site about rumors of shiny overpriced magical gizmos made by a old scruffy guy named Steve who wears the same clothes everyday in underground vaults. [see deity] :p

Just give me the same resolution as the current ipad, but with the retina display... so it is smaller and lighter.

If you keep the resolution but boost the dpi up to the Retina display level you'll end up with a screen about the same size as the iphone. If you keep the keep the screen size and bump the dpi up to Retina level it will be higher than Full HD which means a huge load on memory

Getting off topic but Warren buffet bailed out gs and made a lot of money on it to boot. GS was never really in need of gov't cash like some of the others. That is all irrelevant to the discussion anyways. Some wall street analysts are actually quite accurate as far as Apple products (probably because they know someone inside)

ROFL
I like it
But isn't that what page 2 is for? :)

I want an iPad that does this

The iPad 2 NEEDS flash, I bought one and loved it when I was on HTML 5 sites. HTML 5 may be better but flash still runs most sites that I need to go to on a daily basis.

Seriously? Let's follow this train of logic. I hope that HTML5 is never adopted because my IBM ThinkPad 600 can only run Windows 98 and I can't upgrade to a new version of internet explorer. Since I refuse to go to a clearly superior technology, everyone else must suffer. Doesn't that make me sound like a complete dick?

It goes the same way reversed. Flash isn't needed on the iPad. Flash NEEDS to lose all support. At that point, these third-rate sites (I don't know of any well designed site that uses Flash) will finally realize they need to upgrade.

Why not apply some engineering moxie and do something like the combo ESATA / USB ports out there. Not saying it will be easy, but it would solve a lot of problems.

some questions...

Okay, all of this info looks cool except the 2nd quarter release date, I have been waiting for this since the 1st gen was announced. there have been several other reports on this site saying that it will be released in Q1....so how long do i have to wait?

Thinner sure, camera probably. Micro-USB? Not a chance.

why no chance on micro-usb?

That would be pretty pointless since you would need a Mini-USB to USB connector anyways so it still would require a adapter...?

I am pretty sure we know this.

It will have at least a front facing camera.
It will be thinner/ lighter.
It will have a even better battery life.
Will have the same size screen, same resolution. 3rd gen will get a screen update.

It will gain a faster processor, and more Ram.

These are all obvious facts. We don't need any reports to back this up...

The USB will be reported as adding keyboard support, USB printer, and things like that. iOS 5.0 will bring a better file management for 3rd party devices.

how are these obvious?
faster processor? really that would mean a cortex-a9 based chip, so 2ghz and possibly dual-core

even better battery life?holy smokes!!! that would be like 15 hours, and would contradict all the new capabilities,

no resolution bumb *sigh*

so if it has usb support and bluetooth support for keyboards will we be seeing a controller/gamepad for the ipad, to make sexy games with the faster cpu and more ram?

I don't trust a tech analyst who doesn't know the difference between mini and micro USB.

sorry...what is the difference?

If it has a mini usb (if at all) it will still have the universal 30 pin dock connecter

Im confused why?

i know i probably sound like an idiot but, if anyone can answer these questions, I would greatly appreciate it

I'd rather have an SD card slot. But a camera and a thinner design would be awesome :D (and maybe 1920x1440?... we'll see).

The EU didn't even require them to add a micro USB to the iPhone. All they need to do is ship an adapter for such a power supply.

But iPhones, iPods and iPads are already USB-charging compliant.

Just take a standard USB charger, plug in the USB to Dock connector cable, and they charge. So Apple products are USB-charging since day and age, but they simply don't have a standard USB port. I think EU requirement is only that devices need to be able to be charged via USB, doesn't say that you necessarily have to have a standard USB port on it.

Besides, without the Dock connector, you would never had a healthy eco-system of sound docks and such. I believe the Dock connector is one of the main reasons the iPod succeeded in becoming successful.

I think we're also forgetting something:

The 30-pin dock connector isn't just a charger, or a data connection. It can also output audio and video for docks, video adapters, accessory control, etc. If it were just a matter of the computer data connection and charger, I think they'd be all about it, but I don't think they'll give it up that easily.

Sure, for, ah, I dunno... 29 Extra $ and yet another external adapter

Don't roll your eyes at me. I'm not saying it's a perfect solution, but your first post made it sound like there was no solution. Besides, $30 for an external adapter is not the end of the world. I don't know about you, but my camera is always in a bag which has plenty of room to also carry the adaptor around in.

Everyone acts like it's this huge inconvenience. I've always carried a spare card reader and a couple of cables with me just to be on the safe side. The adaptor is tiny. Smaller than the USB card reader it's replacing, and it doesn't cost so much more that I'm shocked. For a couple of nice adaptors, $30 is not unreasonable. But I guess you could always buy one of the many competing multi-touch tablets with built in SD card/USB ports.

I don't trust a tech analyst who doesn't know the difference between mini and micro USB.

This is Goldman Sachs, one firm that almost singlehandedly destroyed the American economy. I barely trust the thought that Apple will actually release an iPad 2.0 with such a prediction coming from GS.

If it has facetime and fits in my suit jacket pocket - this is the iPad for me.

I don't want something i need a bag to carry.

It seems almost certain that the next iPad will include a front-facing camera as Apple appears to be standardizing FaceTime across their iOS devices.

iPod touch has always copied the iPhone, and now there's Apple TV and iPad, so 50% facetime, 50% without facetime. I'd not call that "standardizing FaceTime across their iOS devices".

iPhone 4 for you then, surely?

Goldman Sachs analysts are claiming that Apple's 2nd generation iPad will come with a camera, mini USB port and a lighter/thinner design in the second quarter of 2011

and here I thought it was going to be fatter, sport an ethernet port and have a dock connecting plastic webcam that spins around!

Did you read what he typed? He said the same resolution which meant that by achieving 300ppi, they would have made it smaller. That, and he said nothing of thinness.

That would make it an iPod Touch. And no, i'n not trying to troll here, but the resolution of the iPod Touch is roughly the same of that of the iPad. With the retina display it would essentially mean a screen the same size as an iPod Touch or iPhone.

I would go for a 100 % increase in resolution and a retina display. It would be roughly $ 200 more expensive I guess..
