I would most likely cry if the iPhone kept the same screen size. A 3.8-4.2" screen with LTE, maybe an A6 QuadCore CPU and QuadCore GPU, Siri 2.0 or whatever they'd like to call it, and finally a remodeled iOS. Like not just a little change, I want to be proud of my slider on my lock screen, I want to reply to text messages from the notification center, and I want to be able to destroy folders with just a simple touch. That's all I want, but I know I'm not gonna get it :(

So basically an iPhone 4G s, if that is the case I think a lot of people will pass on the update. I can't see this happening unless the will release 2 iPhones in the fall, a 4G s and an iPhone 5.

There are dozens of Android devices. Apple can certainly make 2 or 3 screen sizes or the phone. They can keep making the 3.5" but there is certainly room for something around 4" and maybe even something around 5".

As far as microdock, unless it provides faster transfer, I don't care.

The only thing holding me back from buying an iphone is a larger screen and LTE. That's why I picked the Nexus last fall. Apple has tons of money and this is the best they can come up with? What makes Apple think Android users will flock to an outdated 3.5 inch form factor?
If Apple releases a 3.5 inch again they better have a 4 inch plus ready too. Or the only thing worth getting will be an ipad (I have the new ipad, so am half android and half apple fanboy). People mocked HTC for having the same design last year but this year their stepping up to the plate. Can't say the same for Apple. 5 iphones total, first 3 looked the same and the last 2 looked the same; WTF.

----------

Does Apple care about what people say and think on these forums? Apple is losing the phone battle and they got lucky that Android tablets are still a mess. Wait until Google releases a Nexus tablet that sets the benchmark at a cheap cost.
I have a Galaxy Nexus but I want to see competition in the market place. A 3.5 inch display will just hand over the smartphone crown to Google for another year. What is Tim Cook/Apple waiting for? Apple is so hellbent on destroying it's competitors in court they forget how to innovate in the market.

----------

if it's bigger than 4" I have the feeling that I will keep my 4S for a long time :)

How much more can they do at 3.5 inches? 3.6 to 3.9 inches would be a waste of engineering. At 4" to 4.3" you will see more Android users come over and the design would last a couple of years. I'm starting to get the feeling that Apple does not care about obtaining new customers while keeping the current ones happy.

Personally, I'm hoping that the micro dock connector is true because that gives more room for dual speakers, something I've really wanted on the phone since the 1st generation. You can not hear the phone's ringtone at all in public, it's very frustrating. I guess I mainly want these features in the next phone as I'm upgrading from an iPhone 4:

Realistic expectations:
-Dual Speakers
-Faster CPU, Quad core or whatever.
-New design
-Improved camera
-Larger battery
-4G
-Siri 1.0
-iOS 6

Unrealistic Expectations:
-Haptic feedback
-4" screen but I just can't see Apple doing it.
-Xenon flash
-1280x720 resolution
-HDMI out

Am I the only one who cares about dual speakers? I never see anyone mention it.

A 3.5 screen is OUTDATED. I understand some of us live in a glass bubble and think everything Apple makes is perfect....but no....4.0+ is the standard now and is not too big.

3.5 inches is so 2007. Get with the program, Apple.

I agree, and I don't see why developers can't just run their app in the software with black bars around it until they can update it into the new resolution, maybe I'm missing something here.

A larger screen could only do it good, it would open up more space to fit better hardware and a larger battery in there.

Apple probably contemplating fragmentation issue with respect to app development where millions have invested on iOS ecosystem. Asking developers to model two set of apps (in addition to iPad) may give the advantage to Android which is facing this problem leaving developers to focus more on stable IOS interface.

Until Apple flush out all 3.5 into legacy mode, have tools (OS framework) to port apps to different scales without 2X sort of options, I won't be surprised to see Apple sticking to 3.5 inches.

Remember when Apple introduced iPhone in the market 3.5 was almost biggest and Apple may have considered long view of the situation regards to screen size no withholding the fact that competitors would keep popping bigger screens.

To offset this problem they improvised design, introduced retina display and may come out with another feature that may give display further enhancement without making them big.

Wow, still 3.5"? C'mon.. I think Apple has enough technology to make a 4" screen fit on very similar phone size as the current iPhone.

Im not surprised, and frankly, I'm pretty happy that its not changing much. I upgraded to the 4S (from a crapberry) last fall, so now I won't feel bad for not waiting for this thing to come out. Looking forward to the next version after it when I'm due for an upgrade again.

The screen size has always been the biggest desire and rumor, yet Apple has always failed to deliver. I would love to see a bigger screen, as I have big hands and typing on my 4S can get uncomfortable at times.

Personally I'd be disappointed if the screen weren't 4 inches. LTE is kind of cool, but I spend so much of my life in wifi range that it just isn't going to get me excited about a new iPhone. But a little extra real estate on that screen sure would.

yup if apple makes another iphone are 3.5" it will be the beginning of folks getting bored and ji will get an iphone 4S instead and be done with apple until they put a larger screen on the iphone..

There's no way Apple will keep the outdated 3.5 screen to compete with their competitors. Really? They better make a bigger screen or say goodbye iPhone.

I'm kind of pissed that I upgraded to a 4S recently too because I know they will fit a bigger screen to their small specs. Just saying. :D

The form factor is not going to get any larger. The screen can grow slightly, but the phone is not going to get any larger than it already is.

Just give me the next iPhone with LTE on preferably Sprint or T-Mobile, maybe Verizon. I refuse to sign up with any carrier without LTE. Three years of ****** 3G service from AT&T is all I can take. I'm done. C'mon November! You can't get here soon enough!

Yeah just inflate all dimensions for no good reason. On the other hand there is plenty of androids with 20“ screen that only fir in the Fat Pocket™.

No one gives two ***** ...

3.5" screen would be a huge disappointment. I have a 3GS and didn't get the 4S purely because the screen was still 3.5". The iPhone and iOS is lacking innovation. Make the camera 100MP for all I care, it's not a selling point for me. I want more screen real estate, that's it. And iOS and the PIM apps need some work, they are old and tired.

Better be Bigger

First, all rumors this far from launch date are completely worthless.
Second, if for some reason this rumor ends up being true, and Apple still does not realize that the most wanted feature people desire in the next iphone is a bigger screen, then that will prove to me that Apple is completely out of touch, and I will immediately sell my Apple stock and switch to an Android phone.

Stuff to Look Forward To

The 3.5 inch screen is kind of a bummer, but Apple won't change the phone's form factor so the only way of accommodating a 4 inch screen is making it edge to edge and removing the home button, which they won't do.

Realistic Expectations :
1. A6 Processor with Quad Core Graphics (Faster CPU)
2. New Version of Siri with support for integrating it with 3rd party apps
3. iOS 6
4. Better speakers
5. New Design
6. 4G LTE

Unrealistic Expectations
1. 4 inch Screen
2. Better Camera (Im listing this as unexpected because Apple usually only
changes their optics every other model)
3. HDMI out
4. Flash Support

:apple: iMac 2010 and :apple: iPod Touch 4th Gen

Realistic expectations:
Moderate hardware bump (A5x processor, more RAM).
Faster storage memory (this is actually the biggest bottleneck in iOS devices right now).
If there is a new dock, let's hope it's Thunderbolt enabled.
Better battery.
Better front facing camera.
Better camera flash.

Sadly unrealistic expectations: dedicated camera button, FM or DAB radio, future proofed 4G chipset for Europe.

Hate to break the news to some of you but iPhone sales are not exactly struggling with a 3.5" screen. Consumers do have a choice. There are plenty of phones around w/ bigger screens, and they sell well too. Apple has a proven formula going. I don't think it is interested in further complicating iOS app development right so soon after the new iPad. They are going to let devs catch up with the iPad and get started for iOS 6.
