Larger screen is better for movies, most apps, and especially web browsing!

My Nexus fits in my pockets better than my iPhone does do to being thinner, lighter and having rounded corners.

I totally agree with both of those statements.

A bigger display is great for viewing anything.

In this case, a bigger device actually fits pockets better and is less visible from outside, because it's so thin and light and curved. It just slips into pockets like a knife in a sheath. No shoving needed.

Uh, I'm not going to watch movies on my smartphone... I mean if I am traveling and on a plane, I have my laptop that has a much nicer screen for watching movies than my phone (I'd only do this if I had to - I E didn't have a laptop and having the screen slightly bigger isn't going to be that much of an impact on me. Nevermind me having long periods of time to watch a movie where a tv isn't present is so rare I'm not going to buy my phone over that).

Does your nexus fit as well with *other* stuff (For example I must have at least my wallet and my inhaler with me)? And you admit that that is more due to form of the phone vs. size of screen. It's more like it fits well in your pocket despite the larger size than cause of it because they designed the form well.

WEb browsing? I tried comparing my phone to the others side by side and I really didn't notice that i could read more text unless I made the font a lot smaller on the bigger phone. At about the same size there really wasn't much more displayed. So, yeah, don't believe it.

Apps? Hrm, maybe, that prolly depends on the app.

Is it safe to say that most women prefer smaller screens/phone and most men prefer larger screens? (puns not intended :D )

Bigger screens are in. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is the biggest, and it's pretty hot. The thing is like holding a ham sandwich to your ear, but who makes calls on smartphones anyway? It's all about the browsing and the screen.

Not necessarily, I've seen a lot of women using phones with larger screens. Could just be the sample of my area, but it seems fairly common.

Nope.

Screens aren't a trend....at least they shouldn't be. Pick the right tool for the job. I don't want to watch a movie on a tiny screen, therefore I dont' want to watch a movie on my phone. I want my phone to be a device for making calls, messaging, and quick e-mails and internet lookups. That's it. If I do any longer browsing, I do it on my iPad or laptop or desktop. I don't need a bigger screen for these things.

I would have to agree. This is what I use my phone for also for the most part.

As of this writing your post has 20 down votes. A strong indication that people are in a rut that they like. Change is just too stressful. :D

If indeed Apple clings to the past, I guess I will see how long my current model will endure. I'm not abandoning the iPhone, but I'm not about to buy another till Apple caves in and gets with the times.

Downvotes mean everything!

I just read that Samsung shipped 5 Millions Galaxy Notes. That is pretty impressive for a niche product which has been available only for 5 months. It also shows that people have a desire for phones with a big screen. Considering how many phones with a screensize > 4" Samsung, HTC, etc are selling, I can't believe that Apple will leave that market segment to the competition. Steve himself said, we are in the post PC area and he is correct. People email in busses, watching movies during a training ride, etc. For all this, having a bigger screen simply provides a richer experience.

I hope, Apple will offer the option of a bigger phone, so everybody is happy (apart from Dildo666 who would continue to bitch about Apple here nevertheless...:D)

After all, they have laptops in 4 sizes, too. But the longer Apple hesitates with offering different sized models, the more difficult it will be in future to gain back customers they lost today to the likes of Samsung or HTC. One people invested money in an Eco system, they will most likely tend to stay there.

A couple of things to watch for to see if the new iPhone goes to a bigger screen, based on the iOS 6.0 developer beta likely due at WWDC in June 2012:

1. It allows for independence in screen resolution.

2. It adds 1280x720 or 1280x768 as one of the new "fixed" resolutions.

Either of these makes a 4" to 4.25" (diagonal) touchscreen display on the next iPhone very likely.

As far as I know, there is no iOS 6 beta out to developers yet, so how do you know that? If there is one, it's probably only among Apple or partners developers.

imore weighs in with information it has heard about the new iphone that is due later this year.

according to their sources, the new iphone will be 4g lte compatible, as expected. It will also be arriving in the fall, though the exact date will be determined close to the time. Finally, their source also claims that contrary to 4-inch rumors, the new iphone will retain the same 3.5-inch screen, or very close to it.imore had previously reported that they believe the new iphone will carry a miniaturized dock connector to help reduce the overall size of the iphone, itself.

Imore has recently been the source of some accurate information. Most recently, they pinpointed the announcement date for the ipad 3 and lte support

They aren't ignoring that segment. They have this new thing....you know...it's called the iPad.

The segment he's obviously talking about is a smartphone that's between iPod touch and iPad size.

1) The iPad isn't a phone.

2) The iPad is much larger and doesn't fit in very many pockets like the Note can.

Nothing unusual about it. The choice of small - medium - large is a very common segmentation in the real world.

I have an iPad too. It's great but it doesn't negate my desire for a larger screen on the iPhone. There's dozens of times a day I have my iPhone but not my iPad and want to read or watch a video. A 4" screen would do a world of good for these old eyes without compromising the phones ability to fit in a pocket at all.

Depending on your pocket. Go and take a look at a 4.5" Android phone. That's how wide a 4" iPhone screen will be.

To give you the comparison, here's iPhone 4 sitting right next to the HTC Raider with a 4.5" screen.

That's not massive but probably still a bit too big for many.

But with the latest tech, they pushing hard to reduce the bezel. So my guess is we will see an iPhone with a larger screen, but probably somewhere between 3.5" and 4". Probably ~3.8" or so as that's the upper end of the current Retina definition without increasing the resolution and the phone's physical size.

An iPhone with a 4" screen can still be plenty small. Just look at the LG Marquee which is just barely taller and wider. There's even some bezel that could be trimmed:

If the screen still 3.5 apple is working on smaller iPad. So there is a room in between phone a nd ipad

My 4.5" Epic 4G Touch fits in all my pants pockets just fine. I don't wear skinny jeans yet they're also not oversized.

LG Marquee is just barely wider because it's got a longer display aspect ratio than iPhone's. If iPhone has a 4" display, the display will be wider than Marquee's.

Sure. But that's what I meant by "some" and "many", as it's subjective. There are many who say Galaxy Note with its 5.3" is fine with all their pockets whereas I personally find my 3.8" phone and also iPhone 4S to be a bit too big for my pocket for my liking. I much prefer the iPod Touch for my pocket.

However Apple will likely find a way to reduce the bezel and keep the "Retina" name so that can give us some idea on the potential size of the new iPhone, IMHO.

Apple loves guys like you. Especially if you are senior executives at Samsung, HTC, LG, and the other companies out there screwing Android phones together.

Because you, and they, are clueless.

Android phones simply can't compete with Apple in terms of the OS + app + ecosystem experience. (And that integrated, smooth experience is the hardest thing to get right, by the way. Good luck trying to Xerox that, Samsung.) So instead, they do the only thing they can. They try to fool ignorant consumers with hardware gimmicks.

If you can't make it good, make it big. Right, Sparky?

Obviously you need some glasses as you misread my post, I said Apple is a company that actually can make a 4" screen good. If you look at polls over 50% of the people say they want a 4" screen. Why not listen to the majority and make a 4" screen.. That's just common sense.
