some poll results:

0.2% of iPhones sold...last quarter. hehe :D

The internet forums are not indicative of what the masses want, I don't think!

And those who actually want the bigger phone: 0.08% of iPhones sold last quarter hehe

This statement is silly.

.... SNIP ....

Otherwise Android.

I agree :) :apple:

Listen, I'm not an anti-android. I carry both an iPhone4, (wish I had an iPhone4S) I also carry an android ICS phone (Galaxy S), and yes, I like both phones for what they are, but the thing I dislike the most on my android is the phone size. It's not that much bigger than the iPhone, but it's big enough that makes me dislike it. I feel the phone is too big, and the resolution is too low. now I know I can always go out and buy an HD android phone, but then I'm going to end up with a minitablet, that's something I personally don't want.

IF apple is leaning towards a bigger screen, I hope they keep a model for us users of the current phone size :). I find it funny that back in the day of clamshells all these phone companies were fighting over each other for thinner smaller phones, but today they want as big a phone as they can possibly cram in. That being said, I guess people want to skip putting on their reading glasses to read the same size font on their phone as printed text.

what would be cool would be a phone that has edge to edge screen, but roughly the size of the current iphone, that would be a reason to drop the home button, replacing the surface for more screen, but keeping a smaller phone size.

i may be off the mark.. but just sayin.

According to their sources, the new iPhone will be 4G LTE compatible, as expected.

you had me at new iPhone :) :apple:

I have said it before...

And I will say it again..

If Apple released a 4in+ iPhone, everyone in this thread and others complaining about larger screen size would be the first people to purchase one. It silly to think that you wouldn't want a larger screen(which may or may not mean a larger phone)

For instance I have an iPhone 4s and a galaxy nexus, and the galaxy nexus fits in my pockets better than my iPhone! Why? Because of the form factor on the nexus has rounded corners and tapered edges, it allows me to slip it in my pocket easier.

iphone has sharper edges and you can see the entire phone in my pocket from a short distance away.

I also cannot believe that people are buying the iPhone because the screen is 3.5in? They are buying the phone because of the OS, Apps, a familiarity.

your logic is flawed. your assuming that everyone who says that don't want a bigger screen must automatically hate an iphone with a bigger screen. if apple releases an iphone with a bigger screen of course some people will buy it and like it! hehe. but it's not like the smaller screens are going to stop selling either.

if someone here who says they don't want a bigger screen, ends up buying an iphone with a bigger screen and likes it, is that so bad? :D

i don't get why it would be a big deal!

people don't hate bigger screens. They like the current size screen

All polls are samples. These are likely mostly core Apple fans or why would they visit such forums to begin with. It think the poll is accurate.

I hate the current size. :D They should sell bot sizes.

All legit polls are random samples. This thing you posted is hardly random :D. It's a poll of iPhone users who also are a part of an internet forum. That pretty much ignores the multi millions of iphone users who don't fall into that category, so no this is not a good sample. If you do a true random poll and find that people want a bigger screen then that's fine hehe.

A5X with LTE. Nothing else. I can't see them upgrading the screen.

I would prefer dual A15 cores but I think they'll use the same chip as the new iPad. LTE in the form of the new Qualcomm modem.

It's about time, because my Verizon 4S kills me when it's running on 3G. I came from an LTE Android phone.

Please give us better battery life. My 4S never breaks 15 hours.

I agree that A5X and LTE will be the only upgrades. The screen will stay the same IMO.

I will reiterate apple spent years deciding on the iPhone screen size while other companies spent minutes deciding to make theirs bigger.

I use my iPhone all day every day and the screen size is good. I certainly would not want the form factor jeopardized at all for a bigger screen.

For people who want to carry around unwieldly devices there is the note.

is that the new iPhone in your pocket or are you happy to see me?

OMG - how'd you know

is that the new iPhone in your pocket or are you happy to see me?

How'd you find out that the next Iphone will be called "The new Iphone" and not the Iphone 4S²?

The Apple Gestapo will shortly be breaking down the door to your home for leaking secret information....

If Apple isn't making the phone you want, then the only other choice is to buy a phone from anouther manufacturer. I have no idea whether Apple will build an iPhone with a larger screen or not. I'm reasoning from Apple's history that they wont. Once Apple hits on what they consider to be an iconic design (like the current iMac) they tend to stay with it for many years.

And yet you still haven't answered my question as to why that should be the case. You aren't locked into a particular size with most other products. Cars come in different colors and sizes. Houses come in different colors and sizes. TVs come in different colors and sizes. Couches, beds, clothing, computers..even iPODS come in different form factors...the list is endless. Yet this one product comes in only one size (but still several colors)? WHY? It shouldn't be that way.

As for making predictions based on Apple's history, everyone should know by now that's a foolish game. How many times have people said Apple would never do something? Apple won't make their own retail stores...they'd lose their shirts. Wrong. Oh Apple will never make a phone. Wrong. Oh Apple will never make a CDMA version and sell on Verizon. Wrong. Oh Apple always comes out with a phone in June or July. Wrong. Oh Apple will never get into the tablet business. Wrong. History is only correct until they change course and do something different!

You really can't base any arguments on a 7 inch iPad untill Apple actually makes one.

You DID happen to catch the name of the site you are posting on, right? MacRumors? Given such, I think my point was sound.

Apple has a best selling product to solve the problem of aging eyes. It's called an iPad. Makes a 4" display look unreadably stupidly small to those with bad eyes.

For those with decent eyes, or good-enough glasses (bi/trifocals in some cases), an iPhone is pocketable and usable one-handed, and about as large as possible for such. If not, get an iPad and a dumb phone.

Riiiiight. Because carrying around two devices is so convenient and iPads fit so easily into a pocket. Geez...if people here complain about the notion of a larger iPhone not fitting in a pocket, where do you think an iPad fits in that equation?

Using the A5X makes no since at all if the screen size does not change. The A5X has only increased gpu power to push the massive amount of pixels in the ipad 3. I highly doubt Apple would double the pixels on a 3.5 inch display. Just makes no sense at all to introduce a power hungry chip if you already have a retina display in the 3.5 inch form factor. I only see the A5X used if Apple increases the screen size and doubles the pixels to retain their retina classification.

Next iPhone

Well guys somehow I'm thinking that when it comes out we should all just wait for the update which I am sure will follow for black Friday 2012. Not to be setting false predictions but I strongly see this happening. :apple:

Forgive me if this has been asked, but this forum has tons of comments and I haven't sat and read every single page.

Couldn't the iPhone have a bigger screen and developers not have to make new apps?

For example, Safari on an 11" MacBook Air compared to a 13" MacBook Air has one advantage: You get more webpage.

You can also jailbreak an iPad and make it run iPhone-sized apps full screen, like so many Android tablets do to Android apps. Though I guess Apple didn't want a shoddy user experience so created the 1x and 2x views we're used to.

So, the main advantage of a larger screen on a sixth-gen iPhone would be a bigger window into your content?

Yes.
Apple would update their Apps, like Safari for more of a "window into your content" and devs would have to improve their graphics by upscaling them or they would have to be stretching automatically, ruining the graphics. Either way, it's not ideal, theres tradeoffs for a bigger screen that most people don't realize.

Ok it doesnt have to be a5x then. maybe a ram upgrade? they'll do something hardware wise and LTE, but they're not going to increase the screen size hehe :D

After reading 3 pages...it is starting to look like the same postings as the 4s or 5/6/whatever!:D We go through this every year starting at the time the latest and greatest iPhone comes out! If you want a larger screen...tell Apple to turn an iPad into a phone! As far as LTE, it will come. Lets worry about the wireless companies not keeping up with technology and force them to work for the money they gladly take from us every month...for without us, they will go broke!:apple:

I was already considering it, but Samsung galaxy SIII here i come.

4.7 inch Super AMOLED 1280x720
12MP camera / 1080p Video 60 FPS
Quad core 1.5GHZ
125 grams / 8mm

iPhone is getting left behind.

+1 on this. My android phone has a 4.3" screen as well, and I"m able to control it with one hand very easily. I was hoping for a least a 4" screen, if not I guess my LTE phone, with a 4.3 inch screen will have to do.

If you can't make it good, make it big. Right, Sparky?

Jeez. Lots of trolls on this thread. Must have hit a Fragdroid hot button.

I'd get it. But I'd be as happy about it as the people who got the 3.5" phone who decided overall having iOS was more important than their want of a bigger screen (except I'd want it to be a smaller screen vs. a bigger).

Was looking at phones yesterday to judge sizes and I still stand by 4" is the absolute max I'd want the iphone to be and I'd still prefer it to be smaller honestly. But I'd still buy the new iPhone long as they kept it 4" or smaller (admittedly I'd be even more unhappy though if they made it smaller than 3.5". To me it really is a good size, small enough to be really pocketable and not take too much room in my purse but the screen is big enough to be usable). And honestly, the 4" screen on the phone I looked at didn't really seem to be all that noticeable of improvement on screen real estate over my 3.5". It really didn't seem like it would give me any good benefit for the trade off.

And at 4.6" I'd be really unhappy cause I am wanting something with a faster processor than my iPhone 4 (it's starting to feel pretty laggy honestly) but I really would not want a phone that big. Honestly, if they kept the same processor as the 4s, that would make the decision easy for me, especially if the screen really was the one big upgrade (cause Apple doesn't tend to change too much at once).

My currently using a Galaxy Nexus as my personal phone and a iPhone 4s as my work phone. I can say that the difference in screen size isn't apparent until after you have used a 4+ screen for a few weeks. Then once you go back to the iphone you will see just how small and cramped things look.

Larger screen is better for movies, most apps, and especially web browsing! My Nexus fits in my pockets better than my iPhone does do to being thinner, lighter and having rounded corners.
