I'm fine with the glass back but would prefer the aluminum back like the OG iPhone. I say OG iPhone back > iPhone 4 back > iPhone 3G/3GS back.

I think as of sturdiness.. it should be Original iPhone > iPhone 3G/S > iPhone 4.

But actually, i think the best iPhone would be a sweet mix of all 3. An aluminum or maybe liquid metal back, with the rounded back of an iPhone 3G/S, and the front of the iPhone 4.
That plus a 4" screen, and nice 1GB RAM and Dual Core A5 chip, + some more good specs, and that would be my ideal iPhone.

Another yes here. I'm still on the 3GS and love the look of the 4. If the new phone is a thinner and lighter iPhone 4 I'm more than fine with that. :)

My phone is basically a $600 computer carried around in my pocket and that's how I treat it.

I've got a Sandisk liquid metal USB drive and it's hard as nails! Hardly any scratches on it at all after a few years, would be perfect IMO. Silver or black liquid metal, recessed camera gorilla glass, the same metal band around the sides that the iPhone 4 has made of the same metal as present, with the aerials sorted and the same gorilla glass front.

Are you talking about one of these?

I have one right next to me! 2GB for $55, haha

I love the glass back of the iPhone 4. I don't even use a case and haven't noticed any noticeable scratches. It is less sturdy overall than the previous iPhone back materials, but I believe it to look the best.

It sure is the one mate! :) The metal feels incredibly solid considering it's thin. Clever stuff. I don't know if it's any good for the wireless signals though?

Interesting polls so far, no glass is just nudging ahead but no clear split by any means. Keep voting guy's.

Glass is to iPhone as white is to Google's homepage.

iPhone 4 is still (after 1 year) the best looking phone out there BECAUSE of its glass.

Most of you need to put on a case if you complain about cracks. I have never dropped my phone, maybe others wouldn't IF YOU HOLD IT WITH TWO HANDS.

Glass looks the best and feels the most luxurious in hand.

The old iPhones look like TOYS compared to the iPhone 4. It is a stunning phone.

As good as the glass looks, it's a terrible material for it's purpose. The back of a phone should be able to take a beating, not crack as easily as the front. I would like to see aluminium, and soft-touch plastic coating would be amazing for fingerprints, but I don't thing it would fit with an Apple design.

Basically, I'd like aluminium like the original, maybe a bit thicker for strength.

Uh no thank you, crossing my fingers and hoping Apple doesn't use glass the next time round...

Having a glass sandwich was a terrible idea for a phone. The iPhone 4 is the first phone I've owned that has been put in a case... which totally defeats its aesthethic value.

So you are saying that glass back looks good but at the same time we need to use a case to cover it? Makes no sense to me.
I have never dropped my phone but that is probably because I feel the need to be extra careful with a glass sandwich. What's the point of holding a cellphone like I'm holding a baby?

I'd settle for a non-shiny carbon fibre back. In fact a cheap plastic back would do as I always encase my phones, whatever the make.

Glass is the ultimate style over substance material for mobile phone cases. It doesn't get any stupider than that.

Anything that is matte and doesn't make me feel like i need a case to protect it. I just want to buy a phone and carry it, not have to buy a phone plus accessories to keep it in good shape.

That's how I feel too. Sure, glass looks sweet but only short term.

If they are going to use a glass back then they should go with Gorilla Glass instead of the extremely cheap, scratch prone and shatter prone glass they used in iP4.

The iPhone 4 is probably the most beautiful electronic device on the planet. Literally. But, that dang back glass is just prone to break!

The no glass back is clearly winning now so come on, even if you don't comment place a vote. Lets get those results eh? :)

Probably because they already voted in the 500 other polls just like this one.

Glass is the way to go. For all of you crying about cracking your back glass, how about learning how to take care of your very expensive electronics. Maybe an iPhone isn't the phone for you..... I hear there are a lot of very nice plastic android phones out there for all you butter fingers.
