Its a nice thought but also when removing the iPhone home button you have to think about other devices
Look at their 3 iOS devices. They all look relatively similar on the front face. If they were to remove the home button on the iPhone i would bet that they would go along the same lines for their other devices.
So i would think that if they made a change to the iPhone in removing the home button, we would see a dramatic change in all 3 devices in their next iterations.
Exactly!! I think the same thing. Keeping everything alike is extremely important to them.![]()
This is all true. But at some point things are going to change and when they do,
2 or 3 previous generations will be different. This is NOT fragmentation in the way it's being portrayed around here (see iPhone 4" screen thread), it's called evolution. If apple follows your theories, Apple will be a nothing company in 5 years. At some point, things will change. And they will keep changing as technology advances. it's inevitable.
I think the physical home button is the weak link on iOS devices. It's outdated, clumsy, and it fails more then any other part on the device. But it's also a signature button that a lot of people identify apple products by. So it's look and function isn't going anywhere any time soon. But the way it's presented could be easily changed to something more up to date. How about a capacitive home button on the iPad bezel that rotates with the user and is always in the bottom center? It could look and function the same, but be implemented much better.
