From another post he posted he was also asking if he could turn off edge but still have access to his ipod and wifi. Currently, you can not use wifi in airplane mode. I actually tried this last night and it didn't work.

Correct. Airplane Mode disables all send/receive functionality including phone, SMS, bluetooth, EDGE and WIFI.
FYI: I just received the following free text message from At&t:

Wow...that's an interesting tidbit...I wonder if it was a general AT&T blanket message or if its specific to the iPhone plan?
That AT&T Message is very interesting! Please tell me you are not lying! Can we see a screenshot? I couldn't find anything at the AT&T website.
BTW, there is anybody here who thinks the update will come today? Are we all resigned to wait to the 28th at this point?

Not to dissapoint anyone, but it looks like to me it's a general msg from ATT to people who don't have unlimited data plan (no iPhone)... People with text MSG only plan usually get charge per MMS, but now they start new system. So you might have receive the MSG by mistake.
Another reason I'm saying this is because I think I heard on the radio today, like an hr ago, ATT now gives you unlimited MMS and that's also to friends with any other carrier in the nation, something like that. I recall thiis was nothing specifically headed to iphone owners but everyone. I was way bak from school and driving, so didn't pay attention to much, but now I see your post and reminded me.
But hey, I'm not saying MMS won't come to iPhone!

The iPhone is still lacking plenty of apps and features. But if picture and text messaging are at the top of your gripes list, a new text message AT&T is sending to iPhone owners might hint that change is in the air. Jordan Golson at MacApper received a message (pictured) that reads:
AT&T FREE Msg: Good News, your messaging package now includes text, picture & instant messages all for the same price of $19.99 per month. No action required
We already know there's a lot more to this month's pending iPhone software update (which includes the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store), but the arrival of MMS capabilities and/or "true" instant messaging would surely put a smile on many an iPhone owners' faces and a few more sales in Apple's pockets. Of course, at this point, this is absolutely nothing but speculation, so keep that in mind.

Seriously guys, I heard on the radio, Att is giving unlimited MMS to anyone now, or somewhere on that line. Not only iPhone users. The station was 102.1 in Dallas TX area, around 10:00 ~ 11:00.
Ask you att non iPhone friend if he received the same massage. All my fronds are tmobile, so please someone? Cuz I want MMS too, and I wanna believe what u saying.

This text message story is really getting me interested! I really hope it means something for us iPhone users. However, I've learned not to get too excited over rumors. It only leads to disappointment. So yeah, be patient.
