Yeah and that may be the reason I pick the note 9 next year. We will see. I think Apple will lose a lot of business over this Face ID. As you can tell the 8 and 8 plus outsold the X by a lot.

I'm all for positive thinking, but what makes you think this is a loosing proposition for Apple? The X has been outselling the legacy models and doing so at a higher price point... This probably also equated to a higher profit margin as cost estimates have been as high as $370 to build.

How do you know this? Apple doesn’t release sales figures for individual phones and even if true you are taking 2 phones compared to 1 and have more than a month extra of sales.

“We’re thrilled to report the biggest quarter in Apple’s history, with broad-based growth that included the highest revenue ever from a new iPhone lineup. iPhone X surpassed our expectations and has been our top-selling iPhone every week since it shipped in November,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We’ve also achieved a significant milestone with our active installed base of devices reaching 1.3 billion in January. That’s an increase of 30 percent in just two years, which is a testament to the popularity of our products and the loyalty and satisfaction of our customers.”

This does not show that the 8 out sold the X.

It does say it outsold the 8, however it is phrased that the X has been the best selling model since its introduction. It doesn't go on to describe how many iPhone 8s were sold before the X's introduction. So yes there is a little ambiguity as we son't know exact unit sales of the 8 & X. However it does offer a little inside into the Xs performance. Still not the grand slam they were hoping for.

Yes but Brandonjr36 was claiming the 8 outsold he X.

They sure did, and it would be remiss to believe that were true. We will never know that unless we have hard numbers of how many iPhone 8s were sold before the X was introduced. from what we do know, the iPhone X has been a success.

I have had the X for 24 hours and I really miss the fingerprint. Face ID works great during the day, but in a dark car or dark area I am having to enter my password. Think I’m going to take it back to Best Buy and go for the 8+.

You should be sure to properly set up FaceID... Make sure at first to get a good reading of your face in proper lighting without glasses, sunglasses or a hat. After that be sure and train it the first few times it fails to unlock by entering your password and NOT attempting to log in again. This will teach the phone to read your face better.

In general use the illumination of the room should not impact its ability to unlock your face no matter how dark

Nothing you’ve posted compares the sales of iPhone 8 units to X units.
There’s no support for any claim regarding which unit had more sales.

Read the q1 earnings report. Apple says specifically as quoted. This is a direct comparison. I assume when apple says "our top-selling iPhone" they mean all iPhones sold that quarter including the SE, 6s, 7, 8, 8 Plus and X

How does that support the claim that the 8 has outsold the X, which is the claim which I requested a source for?

If anything, it implies the opposite, but does not confirm that either, as it just states that the X has led sales since its launch with no data on how many 8s sold during its 6 week headstart.

No offence, but people here really need to get a handle on the differences between facts and inferences.

Units don't mean anything in business. It's all about revenue and profits.

When Apple says the X is their best-selling iPhone, it means it's generating more revenue for Apple than the 8 which is all it needs to do to be successful. Sell an iPhone for $5 it'll sell 100x the units of the iPhone X, doesn't make it a success. Makes it a failure, actually.

You seem a little testy and i can't understand why. You realize this is a discussion forum and anyone can chime in, right?

It doesn't support @Brandonjr36 at all. I wasn't trying to support @Brandonjr36. But you all (@Docd62 @Brandonjr36 and yourself) were discussing the same subject and you wanted a source. So there you go. That's the only fact we have strait out of Apple's mouth. @Brandonjr36 is wrong and can't have any fact that would back up his statement. @Docd62 was correct. Apple doesn't release itemized sales figures (and you agree) but the did give us this little tidbit during the last earnings report. That's really the only "source" that matters. Anything @Brandonjr36 comes up with would be based on conjecture or some other unrepeatable source.

I’m not testy. I’m just very confused because I was asking for X and you keep giving me Y and acting like it’s what I asked for.

i gave you a fact that supports your claim. just say thanks and move on.

This is where you seem to be misunderstanding me. Where did I make a claim?

Someone else made a claim and I asked them for a source. You provided a source that doesn’t back up the claim, or clearly refute it either.
I do understand that you were trying to help though, so I sincerely thank you for the effort.

Hint: there is no source. they made those facts™ up

Okay, but that’s not actually what I was asking either.

Fair enough. That’s all I was really asking.

I doubt it, Apple usually goes in a direction and doesn't go back and they wont do both cause Apple doesn't give options. If anything I believe Face ID will get better rather than Apple abandoning it altogether.

Don't be too sure about that. Apple went the direction of small screens for single hand operation but look what happened. They even had a commercial for that.
Whoops.

It's absolutely Astonishing that others claim Tim Cook is lying when he stated the iPhone X is there top-selling iPhone since since its launch on November 3. Because the CEO of $1 billion company has to formidably lie about something to gain notoriety about a new iPhone. Unreal.

It looks like some people are talking about the 8 + 8 Plus as a single model, and others are talking about the 8, and the 8 Plus, as separate models.

The sales guesstimates (since Apple does not break this down) are:

  • iPhone 8: 24 percent
  • iPhone 8 Plus: 17 percent
  • iPhone X: 20 percent
  • All other iPhone models: 39 percent
So the X has outsold either 8 model. I don't see how you can lump the 8 and the 8 Plus together for these purposes. They are two very different phones. Physical size foremost, but also the camera and battery life significantly distinguish them. I had a 6S Plus for a while and it was completely unmanageable in my daily routine. I don't think there are very many people would would be happy with either.

Apple's iPhone lineup this year is a surprisingly large mess, from a consumer's perspective. SE, 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus and X? Eight different phones. In prior years, there was the SE, then last year's two phones, then the current year's two phones. We have three new phones this year and five hangers-on.

Look at the chart in this article for more: https://www.macrumors.com/2018/01/22/iphone-sales-breakdown-4q17-cirp/

I would sell or trade in my current X in one second to get one with Touch ID. Face ID is the only thing I hate about my X

I couldn't agree more. I spoke with the rep at the Apple Store and they gave me a loophole to go to the 8 while on the iUP so I may end up doing that and abandoning the X altogether.

Not to mention, with the SEC it's a fireable offense. It's crazy to think he'd be making stuff up, just crazy.

I have no idea why for some people to enjoy their iPhone 6's they have to pretend that the iPhone X is a failure.
