You know I think this is complete BS, glass trackpads? and if it does happen I will be really pissed at apple I just bought a black macbook I need it for school I can't wait till the end of septemper, because I need a computer.

I really doubt this rumor, but if it goes through **** apple...

This guy could be saying this for hype... I even so I don't like the sound of a glass trackpad... The thinner and aluminum macbook is the part that pisses me off.

My theory is that this new macbook will be a new product all together, a multitouch macbook sounds like a new product.

I could see this happening but it would be strange and I just recently bought a macbook so I'm fine with this.

so the back to school promotion is due on Sept 15th. It would be nice to see a new born Mac before the 15th. If the source is real, I think they will have something before the 15th. Just from the business stand point, it is a good way to sell new products along with promotion. Double happiness. Don't we like to play with two. Thanks the business courses at the Wharton School.

Since the last update is the ONLY time they've been done together, let's freaking hope not.

August 5th or tomorrow, guys. I'm going to Ireland for four months and everything's twice the price there!

... I hope your right ...

Oh Yeah!

This sounds pretty reliable, especially considering the types of rumors lately and some of the patents :apple: has applied for. Touch for the main screen seems difficult to pull off right now and I imagine them reserving a Touch Tablet for next year (give some time for Touch to really catch on and a market to present itself). Right now laptops are due for some updates and that's a big seller for them. iPhone functionality in a trackpad? Brilliant! If it could run small stuff like Finder, or dock icons, possibly handle a mini iTunes while working on main stuff on the big screen. Sensors would shut it off when your palms are down (there was a patent for that, remember?). PS and Ai are difficult on a laptop screen, having tool bars on the bottom would help, a quick tap and you change tools! Most of your screen reserved for the main image. I know it's been said, but what if the touch pad could run iPhone apps? That would be nice, have to be landscape though..... The pad would have to be able to handle some sort of pen/stylus for us graphics guys, for quick sketches or getting a line right. Maybe asking too much...... I just hate packing my Intuos around!

I don't know if this is going to happen this time around or not... but to me the next logical step is to get rid of the whole keyboard and mouse/pad input design.

I'd like to see a touch sensitive surface that maybe has a keyboard and pad area on it programmaticallly displayed and enabled, but no more physical keys... an LCD screen under... basically a large iPhone face.

I would like one of these for my desktops as well. Then, when I write software for say... recording audio... I can turn the keyboard into knobs and switches if I want, or a keyboard, or finger paint on it, or whatever I want... and I don;t have to buy a new input device.

A programmable multi function touch capable input device.

The one thing that seems somewhat strange about this rumor is the glass trackpad's. Besides the fact that it may offer better sensing of input (just my speculation), what is there to gain by using it? They will definitely be more of a fingerprint and dirt magnet than the current versions. But otherwise if this rumor is true, then the design elements and the fact that the entire casing of both devices should be aluminum sounds like it should be pretty good.

How long does it generally take for a new Macbook version to get all the bugs shaken out? I'll plan my purchase around that schedule....;)

Actually, from a business point of view, that's a terrible idea. Apple doesn't need to start giving away iPod Touch's with a brand new product. In fact, they don't have to give away anything with it, it's going to be selling quite fast. The only bad thing about this release date is Apple missing out on the back to school frenzy (students needing a laptop before the beginning of school). Anyways, looks like I'll have to wait a couple months for my new MacBook :( and I won't be getting a free iPod Touch.

I like it, even if its not an iphone like screen, which for the record it clearly should be. Glass would make it slicker

"Tablet based device"

Is going to be an iPod Touch v2. Somewhat larger, 720x480 screen, allows for larger virtual keyboard, adds most of the features of the iPhone 3G, etc.

bro, mainly i was talking about the promotion. sure, they don't need to give out anything. they are giving out because new ipods are coming out. i'd stand with my words. perhaps you misunderstand me. that's fine. it would be ****ed up if they release the Book after Sept. 15th.

Well, if it's not out by August I guess I'm taking my money to a PC manufacturer. It'd be a shame too, I've really come to like my imac.
