And some users here still prefer the notch. We can’t complain about the lack of innovation and complain about change.

There are people upset that the lighting port is going away.

Guys I have a used iPhone 6 for sale if you’re interested lol

I'm sorry but if the cameras and sensors are the same quality, no one in their right mind would prefer the notch over a no-notch display. Anyone who says they would are lying to themselves and everyone else around them.

The under screen face ID sounds great & an under screen camera sounds even better… but I will definitely still be upgrading my iphone 11 pro max this year to the iphone 15 pro max. At a certain point you just have to upgrade, and this is the year for me. Besides, my 11 pro screen has already been repaired twice, and chances are it won’t make it to September let alone 2024 or 2025!

Agree, this seems like a good year to upgrade. For me it’s been 3GS>4>SE>Android dark age>very late 8>13 Pro>15 Pro>… For long I thought iPhone 4/SE was my favourite. But I really miss my lightweight, beautiful gold 8. The home button, keyboard haptics felt so good. It also made the best photos, better than 13 Pro.

Yep, I don’t trust the orange or red dots. Way too many coincidences over the years with suggestions in YouTube and Facebook. Example, during the Super Bowl a buddy of mine who’s a contractor and I haven’t seen in a while were talking. He mentioned he just installed a tankless water heater in his house. Tankless water heaters were about the farthest thing in my mind up to that point. Nothing led up to the discussion, only a, “Hey what have you been up to?”

Want to guess what videos started appearing in my YouTube suggestions? If you guessed the merits of tankless water heaters go to the head of the class.

Never forget the picture of Zuck with his laptop in the background and tape over the camera. That was when I stopped using Facebook. Unfortunately I use Youtube a lot. Someone, somewhere, is listening and I’m willing to bet watching.

Has to be glasses with the possible combination of glasses and watch. People “need” scrolling B.S. In front of their eyes. Glasses can provide that.

Maybe Europeans, and Asians are a bit dumber than us? Why trust third party (government sponsored) message apps when you have one built-in that at least mentions privacy?
Oh yeah sorry I forgot, definitely no back door on iMessage. 🤣

8+ was the greatest phone ever. That phone, remade with a better camera and go back to the all metal (or even better, plastic) back, would be an instant buy, at any price, as much as I despise Apple under current leadership. That screen was never before, and has never since, been equalled. Home button, touch ID, no notch, incredible DPI with totally invisible pixels. What the heck happened... 🙁

This has been the rumour that keeps on giving since the 2017 iPhone X

"Just one more year"

A lot longer than that. Apple has been working on this for many, many years...

I don't discount that it may be a possibility that a mic or even your mic picked it up but the way the data mining works actually leads to a different and more complex answer.

If your buddy, who was talking about a tankless water heater, also did a search on his phone for it or had it somewhere in his phone that could be data mined and you were all at a single location and sharing the same IP address or Geo-location, then google ads would be able to push out that ad to all the people in the Geo-location. This is just one way google ads works and why they can charge so much for targeted advertising.

When I was pitched google ads, even many years ago, and the sales person went through all the ways their targeting is better than their competitors I was shocked. I think the salesman may have let out a bit to much info about how their back end mining works though.

But I've had similar experiences as you were I thought I was having a private convo with a friend and then received targeted ads for some of what we talked about.

A few specific ones that really pissed me off and/or scared me was when I received a targeted ad based on a convo in iMessages that was supposed to be encrypted communication and outside the slippery paws of data miners.

Wow, never knew about the sharing of geo-location information and "the subtle sharing" of search histories/ads. Sales people generally have loose lips. Keep quiet around them and you'll learn a lot about the world. 😄 That explains a lot of other odd stuff that has popped up in my YouTube recommended lists. (And now I have another excuse I can give to my wife for some of the others. 😉)

In the case of the iMessage's conversation were you ever in close proximity of the other party(ies) as you mentioned earlier?

That's why I said they at least mention privacy. I don't trust any of them 100%, but atleast Apple isn't going to "disappear me" like the owners of WeChat could.

The complexities of data mining and how its used to show targeted ads is probably still above my understanding.

With regard to the iMessage convo I wasnt in close or semi-close proximity that we would share a cell tower or wifi IP address. I think one of them was the result of me doing a google search on my phone so it made sense after the fact. The other few times I was not able to figure out how it happened. I think I may have tried to blame my firestick 😂

I do remember in one of the iMessage convos, my friend sent a pic of potato chips she liked and I looked them up on my phone in the browser so it made sense I would see a targeted ad for it in, I think, Instagram. Also another reason I have basically stopped using Instagram. I find almost everything is an ad whether subtle or direct.
