Yet another reason to wait! I'm glad I was planning on skipping iPhone 7 anyway :)
And then there are those of us who have great upgrade options with our carrier and just get the new iPhone every single year and not have to worry about which year will come with the "killer feature" and not tip toe around which cycle to be on.

Iris scanning vs. fingerprint authentication on a handheld device makes no sense. The resolution and lighting requirements would make it impractical and annoying from a user experience point of view.

For those concerned about security, I could see maybe a two-factor authentication scheme being implemented over iris or retina scanning. Fingerprint+PIN or fingerprint+voice print, perhaps?

I don't believe this rumor for a second. Retina scan is not as reliable or fast, opens Apple to "you blinded me" law suits, doesn't really improve anything, and Apple has spent years getting users used to TouchID and improving the system.
Seconded.

Apple spent $400 million to acquire the tech behind Touch ID and the 2 years developing it before its first product introduction. Countless more evolving it since then.

Iris scanners are rarely used on their own...they are often found in conjunction with fingerprint scanning in higher security applications.

Doesn't seem the least bit necessary on iOS devices.

So, if Samsung implements something first and Apple follows it's common business practice, while Samsung is a copycat the other way around. Sry had to say it

I heard Samsung's implementation of this sucks. Wonder if Apple will do any better? There are so many reasons why this won't work well (lighting issues, contact lenses/glasses, distance, resolution, etc), I wouldn't expect it to be any better, tbh.

I wonder how this will fit in with law enforcement. Currently you can be compelled to use your fingerprint to unlock your phone, or as we've seen, law enforcement may manufacture a fake of your fingerprint to unlock your phone. But they can't compel you to enter your password. Can the government/law enforcement compel you to look at your phone?

It's an iris scanner being discussed people. Not a retina scanner as has been referenced 50 times already. These are indeed two different parts of the eye!

Next year's iphone...next year's iphone...next year's iphone...next year's iphone...

Well, since we have assumedly already passed by any nondescript offerings for 2016...

I heard the 10th anniversary iPhone is going to revolutionize the industry as the first mobile device to employ Klingon Cloaking Technology, making it not just accessible, but VISIBLE only to the authorized user.

The new iOS vocal commands will be accessed with "Hey, Worf..."

I can just imagine the battery life of the phone if you have to turn the camera on and use Iris scan every time to unlock it...Crap when Samsung came up with it and will be crap if Apple does it no difference

If it works through glasses/contacts, and you don't have to hold your phone up to scan then it will work. If not then no thanks.
