It wasn't that I didn't like it. I was on the fence between a Note ii and a Nexus 4. Even though I had gotten my order in during the first 5 minutes, I was put on backorder by Google with no communication from them . Last Monday they told me that they didn't know when I would receive it, so I went and bought a Note ii the same day.

Fast forward to the next day and I have a shipping confirmation with the delivery of the Nexus 4 the day after :/

With Google bungling the order up till then I certainly wasn't about to trust them to perform a smooth return and credit process. I sold it locally instead and pocketed a few shekels.

Thoughts on the note 2? I'm still considering it even with my nexus in hand.

Been busy at work so not had much chance to use the phone, but worth displaying the standby battery drain.

I leave wifi and bluetooth on all the time, location services is also on.

I can't compare it to the Nexus 4 in real life use since I just turned around and sold the Nexus 4 still sealed in the box. That being said from what I've seen of videos of the Nexus 4, the Note ii may be less buttery.

Anyways, I'm coming from using an iPhone 4 previously. My biggest draw to Android was to get a bigger screen. I had been using a Nexus 7 since September and absolutely loved the experience. I find the Note ii to be much faster and responsive than the Nexus 7. It's taking a bit of time to adjust to Touchwiz but I don't hate it. I would still prefer to have pure Android. I may think about installing ROM's down the road.

The only thing I do hate is the hardware home button and capacitive buttons. The capacitive buttons are in reverse order to pure Android and I find myself hitting the wrong button to go back. Keep in mind that I've only had the device a few days and will soon adjust. When switching from portrait to landscape I am constantly hitting the capacitive buttons unintentionally as well.

The s-pen is a feature I seldom use but it is nice to have when needed. The size isn't an issue for me, I can easily type one handed (having a hand span of 10 & 1/2 inches helps). All that being said, I previously used to carry my Nexus 7 everywhere and tether it to my iPhone. Now that I have the Note ii the only time I've picked up the Nexus 7 is to use in bed while passing out. I'm too paranoid that I'd fling the more expensive Note ii to the floor while sleeping.

If a larger screen and massive battery capacity are important to you, I'd say give it a trial run. Otherwise I think the Nexus 4 is the phone to have.

Does anyone in the UK know if the Nexus 4's sold by the Carphone Warehouse are unlocked or not? I want to order one from them and have it delivered to me in Ireland.

I believe all Nexus phones are unlocked, I asked the same question some time ago Chaz gave the answer, give me a bit of time, Ill find it.

Edit; There ya go, I did get mine from O2 and it is indeed sim unlocked.

Is your phone unlocked Chaz please?

Must admit that I'm tempted to go to O2 and pay the 120 quid extra for the phone but don't want it locked (I have an O2 account but don't want to wait for them to do the updates) I know you got yours from CPW.

All nexus GSM handsets are sim unlocked so you should be fine to go. :D

I think I'm gonna take a train to Belfast tomorrow to pick it up from either O2 or Carphone Warehouse then. Do they need a UK credit card or do they accept cash or Irish cards?

I'm sorry I dont know if they take Irish credit cards, cash should be OK though, I had to buy a £10 pay and go top up at O2 as well as the £399 for the phone.

Edit:

I would phone the shop first, all O2 shops did not stock the Nexus (Northallerton didn't, Middlesbrough did)

My Nexus 4 took another fall this morning. Once again it slid off of my iPad onto tile floor. I was carrying my iPad, with a leatherette case on it, flat with the N4 atop. Soon I heard the thud and saw it do a second and third bounce. I prayed briefly that it was my iPhone 4S but as that was still clinging fine atop the iPad I knew it was the N4.

This time it was a more severe fall than the other day. I was sure there had to be some damage. And there nearly was: on one back corner the original plastic film took a real beating. Figured there had to be damage underneath but thankfully no. I think that film was just enough to save it.

Meanwhile the case I ordered on Monday is not predicted to arrive for another week! Ugh!!!!

One thing for sure, I'm keeping the iPad far away from the N4. It wants to kill it!

Haha you sir definitely need a case. *knock on wood*, I always go naked and have not dropped a phone in about 3 years.

Really great summary. Thanks. I went and tried the note for the millionth time l at night at best buy black Friday. I personally could not pull the trigger. Although I wanted the great battery life for the software experience I want pure android without having to do anything lol. There are a few other things that are also personal preference that I won't get into. Oh BTW I share your hate for the hardware home button lol thanks again.

Please do! You know apple and Google are not friends anymore!!

Come Monday or maybe Tuesday next week I'll finally be a proud owner of a Nexus 4 :D

Now I'm debating whether I should root it the first day or stay stock for a while. Maybe root and flash AOKP. I'll probably just root it and stick with the stock recovery.

Might as well get it out of the way.
