yeah im pretty sure i did that but i want to try it again, but now when i go into recovery mode, CWM doesnt come up. I only see the android robot opened up with a exclamation mark on him. any idea what that is

That is stock recovery. You didn't actually flash CWM recovery. You must have booted into it (I prefer TWRP).

I would advise you to use the Nexus 4 toolkit from XDA and flash TWRP/CWM. Then you can install ROMs right on the device without needing to boot into a custom recovery with a PC or mac.

Michael

Actually, isn't that fastboot mode? If so, you should be able to use the volume buttons to scroll down to recovery and select with the power button. If CWM recovery doesn't open then Michael is correct in that you didn't actually replace stock recovery with CWM. I've used both CWM and TWRP and both seem to work fine, though I think some developers prefer one over the other for their ROM. The latest ROMs I've been using suggest TWRP so I've been using that.

If you are in fact already rooted, you can even install GooManager from the Play store and install TWRP right from the app.

ok i downloaded the goo manager. where do i find TWRP

I kept hitting "Check for Updates" in my "About Phone" menu and it finally came this afternoon.

On 4.2.2 now. Let's see how the battery fares in the coming days. Whoo.

Yes. It's also an older device compared to the N4. However my N4 is almost always on wifi when I'm at home, which I currently am, so it's just a matter of time. I'm in no rush.

Although its not the case because I see others getting 4.2.2 but what I meant was carriers can delay the phones ota update regardless of whether you are connected to WiFi or there network. Verizon delayed jelly bean to there customers on the galaxy nexus for over a month (or more) after its release. ATT is much better thankfully for N4 owners.

The framework trick worked the first time for me on my N10...

I'm finding everything overall better on 4.2.2 on both my Nexus 7 and 4.

The N4 seems far more responsive and not as got to the touch when in use like it used to be.

Time for me to start saying, bring on key lime pie! I/O can't come soon enough!

I'm not really noticing any change on my N10 but I wasn't really experiencing any problems either....

Is it me or did the app switcher button get a lot slower after 4.2.2? I feel like it used to be instant. Now it's not. There's a slight noticeable delay.

My early impression so far is that there are no battery improvements but that is a very early judgement.

EDIT: I might even go as far to say the battery life is worse! Early impressions, still...

Oh man I hope not. I still haven't received my OTA on my N4.

I'd say you're way off the mark. As someone who has been on 4.2.2 for almost 2 weeks now, I can say the battery life difference is quite clear. If you aren't seeing a battery life increase, or are seeing a decrease, you might want to take a look at what you have running on your device (and maybe do a full wipe).

It's probably just in my head. Definitely going to give it a day or two more before anything can be remotely conclusive.

I thought bootloader mode has the pic of the Android robot with the door open, as if for maintenance, with no exclamation mark (as well as has menu options and icons pointing to the volume and sleep buttons).

Since he said he had the pic of the robot with an exclamation mark by it it seemed to be the stock recovery. That is how I rooted my Nexus 4: I didn't flash a custom recovery. I think at the time I read that allows you to still get OTA updates so is why I went that route.

Michael

Morning report: Battery life is only marginally better, at best, so far.

I usually get in with about 85-86%. This morning, doing the same things with my phone as I usually do on my commute, I came in at 88%. For comparison's sake, the Galaxy Nexus (after the final ICS update), my GN would be at 90-92% getting in doing the same things.

Again, these are first day impressions with 4.2.2, so nothing conclusive. So far, I'm none impressed...

Also, is it me or do the changelogs not really talk about battery fixes? Even the unofficial one I posted earlier in this thread had the battery fixes burried deep in the code. No fanfare, no websites are really listing it as a key change. The only exception is the Nexus 7 page listing 10 hours of battery instead of 8. But isn't that sort of odd it's not a big bullet point on the changelogs?

I'm still waiting for the 4.2.2 update. Maybe I haven't gotten it yet because I am near the end of the line because I got my phone just two days ago. I wish it would hurry and get here.

Did you try the framework trick?

I didn't have the update, did the trick, checked again and it updated.

I really haven't used 4.2.2 much yet, but I did turn on the hotspot option and left it unplugged overnight. I used to get about 14 hours of battery life doing that, and now it looks like I'll get about 20. The bad news part is that I now have wifi problems - slow speeds and dropped connections.

What is the framerate trick and how does one do it please?

How do you do that?

Goto apps in settings find google.framework under "all". Clear data, force kill, then check for the update again.

You can probably google better instructions.

Btw you won't lose any important data or anything like that.
