When I got my Nexus 4 all I did was put in the SIM from my iPhone and everything worked fine. Never had to change APN settings to get mobile data, it just worked out of the box. Are the APN settings in the link better in any way?

For LTE plans, it should be set to "pta". The "phone" APN is pretty much for everyone else (3G/4G non-LTE plans).

But if "phone" works for you, then just stick with it.

weird, when I change it to pta the bars go gray and it says "no data." I checked and att still has me on iphone 4g LTE unlimited.

I know a lot of people were not getting HSPA+ with stock APNs. The standard att ones just changing sims got me around 3 down...with the correct APNs I get 9-12 down

That makes sense, you're on a iPhone data plan. Regardless of whether if its 3G/4G or LTE (iPhone 4S vs iPhone 5), iPhones are on a separate data group and only the "phone" APN will work (at least based on my personal experience). If you were using any other LTE device (S3/4 for example) you will be placed under the smartphone LTE data plan and the "pta" APN will work for you.

But yes, without manually setting APNs will still get you a working N4, but you will not get the fastest data speeds. For some reason LG decided to default AT&T APN settings to the old WAP setting unless you manually change it.

Ok thanks, do you by chance know why the iphone data plan is considering something else? I know I just keep a nano SIM and always pop that into all of my phones (with an adapter) and it works on all LTE plans. Is that just a way for att to keep track of how many users have iphones?

AT&T has a few different data plans; BlackBerry, iPhone, Smartphone, non-smartphone. Plan depends on what phone was activated on your line originally, and subsequently will change if you use your SIM in a new device with an IMEI that AT&T recognizes and is in their database.

So I just got a Sim adaptor from amazon for my nexus 4. I want to use a nano Sim from my iPhone 5 with the nexus 4. The Sim just seems to slip out of the Sim adaptor. I don't want to have it drop out of the Sim tray in the phone. Has anyone had any luck with these?

I have heard a few stories of the tray getting stuck in the phone so i would be very hesitant to use one of those adapters unfortunately.

I didn't buy one from amazon but I used a sim adaptor for my nano sim. I was just careful and made sure the sim side was up while inserting in the nexus.

I had no issues swapping the phones with a nano to micro adapter.

Thanks. I figured out how to get it into the nexus. Now I just need to get a nano sim activated again. Kind of excited to use both phones again. Have not used my iphone 5 in awhile.

So I just went to the At&t store and got a nano Sim to put into my iPhone 5. Well I have a Sim adaptor and tried in out in my nexus 4. Well there is kind of an issue. I can make call, but my mobile data is not working. What would be the problem?

Hard to tell without looking at the phone firsthand. First thing i would check would be go into settings/data usage, then click the 3 dots to bring up the menu then make sure "restrict background data" is not checked.

Well I read on android central that there is some kind of weird provision that you need for the iPhone data plan to work on the nexus 4. Some people were saying you could change the APN, but you have to register to see the APN.

Edit: just figured it out. There is a certain APN you need for it to work.

So originally I just put in my SIM from my iPhone 4S and didn't have any problems. Until almost a week ago, I saw screen shots of people with a Nexus 4 on AT&T getting amazing speeds, while I was only getting 2Mbps.

I came across this article:
http://tysmith.me/post/36377623241/nexus4speeds

It took some yelling at AT&T reps for them to listen to me and put in a different IMEI from an LTE device, but once they did my data got faster. I now get over 9Mbps. This might be worth a shot for others having the same problem.

But just know, if you call AT&T and tell them to put in another IMEI, they will tell you they can't. I spent over 2 hours on the phone with them trying to get them to listen to me. So be prepared to persuade them. Otherwise, they likely won't listen to you. Yelling at the supervisor also helps.

Thanks for the info. I have wifi most places were I use my nexus which is faster than 9Mbps, but that is good to know. I am just glad I got the data working.

I'd like to point out something with the APN settings in that link, since it was originally what I was using.

Set APN Protocol and Roaming Protocol to IPv4 only, and not IPv4/IPv6. Setting it to both will sometimes cause your mobile data to cycle between blue/gray bars after long idle or disconnecting from WiFi, in which case only a reboot or airplane mode toggle will fix.

Looking at some of the pics my brother took inside the building he works, i am surprised.

It confirms my experience, every once in a while, the camera takes a picture that easily rivals that of my iphone 5 or dare i say it, looks even better.

Something tells me the sensor isn't very crap, it is stock android's camera software which absolutely sucks in using the camera focus and image processing tools.

A crap sensor simply cannot take a brilliant picture (too bad i couldn't upload it as i forgot to copy it off lol).

I wonder if a future fix from google can solve this, XDA doesn't look to promising as they have not found a way to fix it except for declaring "the camera is crap".

Do you N4 users think it is software or the hardware is just not up to task?

One of my biggest peeves with the camera is the way the LED flash sometimes completely whites out the subject you are photographing.

On a bright sunny day, I can pretty much guarantee a decent picture but anything less and it's inconsistent to say the least.

Whatever it is , it ruined this phone for me everything is great except the camera , used the front facing camera to shoot a pic of a group of us in one pic , took the shot thought i had it saved checked it later......... sucked can't even see the subjects at all I miss my i5 camera

Obviously you figured it out by now, but it will sometimes slide out when trying to put it in, so just turn your phone upside down. The way a lot of people got them stuck was with the samsung gnex. If you put the sim adapter in without the actual sim card, it would get stuck and there was no way of getting it out...well no easy way.

Yea after messing with it for awhile I figured out to turn the phone upside, and it works every time.

I just bought a Nexus 4. I had an iPhone 5 before. I plan to go to the AT&T store and ask them to give me a new SIM card for the Nexus 4.

Do I still need to tweak the APN settings if I get a new SIM card from AT&T to get the faster data speeds? Do I need to back-up anything first before I do this? Is this tweak sure to work? I don't want to mess anything up.

Yeah, for some reason at&t defaults to just 3g on the the nexus 4.

Ok, I have an iPhone 5 with AT&T nano SIM card and LTE data. After I get a new micro SIM card from the AT&T store, I plan to change the APN settings on the Nexus 4. Should I change it to 'pta' or 'phone' to get max data speeds? I am confused??

If they keep you on the iPhone data plan you will want to use "phone". If you get put on a normal at&t 4g lte plan you will want to use "pta". I have to use phone since they still think I have an iPhone and I just use a sim adapter. Most likely they will change your plan to lte for normal smart phones so you will use pta

I don't like the idea of having iOS 7 on my iPhone iOS 5, so tomorrow comes my Nexus 4.

Some time ago I have no android, the last was a Galaxy Nexus and had Bootcamp on my MacBook so I was used a windows tools for that nexus (Wug Nexus Toolkit).

My question now is ... what tools exists and recommend to change the ROM, rooting, unlock, SMS support, etc in *OS X*?

thx.
