No but people are saying the new HTC One has the updates to fix the camera. Sometimes it has to do with software stuff. I mean an 8 megapixel camera should be pretty good. I know it is not best, but I have seen worse too.
The best I could do to make the best of it on my N4 was use HDR mode--which of course takes time and a steady hand.

My major issue with the N4 pics were that they had, for lack of a better word, a "cloudy" appearance (mostly indoor pics). Photo editing helped (the punch filter) but not always, and that can be a chore. I would have been ok if the pics were even at the iPhone 4's level (even if the same 5MP).

Yea I understand. I am now realizing I was just arguing out of the fact I did not want to admit the camera was crap. I really don't care about the camera, but that does not take away from the fact that it is not good.

After I posted that I went back and scanned through my N4 photos. There were more than just a few that looked pretty darned good. What really surprised me was that videos shot indoors looked crisp and had "pop" whereas stills taken in the same place--at the same time--did not. Maybe there is something that can be done software-wise (even if it means at lower image size).

OK good to know. Maybe they can do something. Thanks for getting back with the info.

So I took some pictures at work with HDR on and not too bad. Still look kind of washed out, but not ad much noise in them.

First picture is the nexus 4 second is the iPhone 5.

An 8 megapixel camera cuts the amount of available light for each pixel, causing the need for a higher ISO, making the image worse. Plus the lens is crap, and AFAIK the sensor isn't even backlit. Can't fix those problems with a software update.

I'm thinking about trying the Nexus 4 again if it is updated to 32GB at Google I/O. My only hesitation is remembering how bad the screen was on the one I returned. Besides the understaurated colors and bad default gamma setting, which I would adjust with a custom kernel this time around, I had backlight issues that were unacceptable.

I didn't exchange it, so I don't know if another one would be this bad or not. The backlight on mine was very uneven, and when looking directly at the screen, it was very yellow. Strangely, it seemed to be less yellow when viewing off center by tilting it away from my face.

You can also see in this picture that the black bar at the bottom wasn't completely black. This picture exaggerates it, but the bar was more dark grey than black.

Is anyone else seeing this issue with their Nexus 4?

I love the camera just for photosphere! This is the latest one I look:

I do agree about the standard photos with the camera being a bit lacklustre though. Shame.

I don't seem to have any such issues on my Nexus 4. That looks absolutely terrible!

Try removing the plastic that is intended to protect the phone during shipping and see if the screen improves.

Mine and my mates Nexus 4 have extremely rich and even blacks. The stock gamma settings are terrible however so you really need to run a custom kernel and adjust the gamma.

Anyone else here completely happy with their Nexus 4 and not at all discouraged by the S4/One reviews?

I found the performance of the new phones to be rather lackluster.

When I sold my iP5 and picked up my N4, I was nervous that when the S4 came out, I would want to jump ship. The S4 dropped and I don't feel at all the way I did last year when I had a Galaxy Nexus and the S3 dropped. Last year I couldn't get to the store fast enough. I wanted to chuck my Galaxy Nexus as far as I could throw it.

With the N4->S4, I don't have the upgrade bug at all. In fact I kind of feel sorry for people who waited for it.

The S4 has lag issues, the HTC One is nice but i prefer vanilla Android and i am very happy with my Nexus 4 :D

I must admit, my desire to get something else over the nexus 4 is very low.

When I had the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, I also had a galaxy s2 & 3 alongside them but this time around I can't say I'll buy anything else.

The HTC One does look superb though but I'll be saving my pennies this time to get the new nexus or Motorola depending on what Google do with the X.

Yep I have no desire for either. Why would I? The N4 is so fast and smooth, and guess what in the next couple of months we will be getting the latest update of android. Will the S4 or the One bramble to say that?

I tried the One for a few days, but it just made me that much happier with the n4. Maybe late 2013 will make me upgrade, but honestly at this point it is all about software and I am getting that with the n4 for a long time.

What I think is so funny about the HTC One is all these iPhone user that bashed android for so long. Are just falling in love with the One. They are saying it is the best phone they have ever used. I guess if they are going to get android phone it better look like an iPhone, and it has to be just as simple. Now they have turned their bashing for android into trashing Samsung. I just don't understand android has had some great phones, and for that matter HTC has made plenty of aluminum phones before.

You don't get a true android experience until you have used a nexus phone. Sure all these skins can add some features, but they also take away some of the things that make android great.
