Yah, if it had regular buttons I would keep it over the N5 ALL DAY LONG!! I really don't want to change it out, but it's just too annoying. I hate the Knock On feature as well, it's too sensitive and turns on way too easily as well, almost every freakin time I take it out of my pocket or put my hands on it. In all honesty I may have a broken phone because my proximity sensor is weird too, most of the time when I'm on a phone call and lower the phone the screen does not turn on, that pisses me off too.

I have the Verizon model with 32GB standard......

I don't know....for me....i like the "knock" "knock" feature. I wish it were an option in other phones as well. I wonder if Devs over at XDA will bake some Roms with this feature? Hmmmmm

I like it in theory, definitely. But it's very funky. It either doesn't work accurately and I have to do it repeatedly, or it's too sensitive and turns on all the time. Although as I said before maybe mine is borked somehow. If it worked perfectly I would love it.

All the ROMS on XDA have knock on, from what I understand it's baked into the Kernel. I know I've tried 3 or 4 different ROMS and Knock On has survived, however Knock Off inside the homescreen gets disabled so you have to install something like GMD Gestures or Nova.

I wish I could get the knock knock on my S4! :)

By the time you get 4.4, we'll likely be closing in on a newer version. But it'll be okay, because Cyanogenmod adds very nice things.

Nah CM development moves pretty quickly and the fact that its sibling is the nexus 5 will make development even faster. I'd say few weeks until pretty reasonable build.

G2s popularity on Verizon will push development too. Seems to be the go to for neckbeards on Verizon. Those are the people you want on your side :p

Yeah you think so? 4.4 would be pretty killer. 4.3 was released 7/24/13 and it looks like the first nightly for CM with 4.3 was mid August, that's pretty quick.

Won't they wait until 10.2 is stable before moving to 10.3?

I could be over calling it but they should be able to pull a whole lot from the stock nexus 5 images if most of the hardware is the same. After seeing cm bring android to the HP touchpad I dont underestimate them.

That call may have been made, I'm not really following the G2. That is not always the case though. I never got a 'cm deemed stable' build for the touchpad though 3 different versions, gingerbread, ICS and jellybean. That was a very different project though.

If one wants a no bugs ever(hopefully :p) experience probably best to go with nexus 5.

I'm not a dev so I have no idea what would be considered stable. I know that 10.2 on my G2 is freakin rock solid, and that was from the first "unofficial" build even before nightlies. I would never know I was dealing with nightlies as smooth as my experience with CM 10.2 has been.

Yes this can certainly be the case. They seem very hesitant to use the word stable.

I don't mean stable as in "doesn't crash". It's that already on my Galaxy Nexus... and yes, I had it on my device even before I realized I won't get 4.4 otherwise. I meant the "stable release". 10.1.3 is considered the stable version.

Do they not use stability to denote a release to be the "stable" version? Like a RTM version of windows or something.

Actually, they seem to be more strict with their use of stable as a release version. They don't put stable on their unless they feel it is ready. Otherwise, it continues to get nighty versions and milestones.

I would really like to see a side by side comparison from someone who owns both, but as others have mentioned....pure android experience and price alone make the n5 a better buy unless there is issues with the n5

I'll have both as of Monday, so I'll try and remember to post my thoughts.

I do have the Moto X and the G2 right now and I can tell you I MUCH prefer the experience on the X over the G2. I had the OG and loved it dearly, but there's something about the G2 that's just not doing it for me. It's more the software than hardware, though. Hardware is incredible. But I hate how you lose the Knock Off function if you use another launcher. And I hate icon labels, so using Nova is almost a must for me.

Something tells me the Nexus 5 will definitely win this battle.

*edit* Another thing that I hate. One of the reasons I loved the G2 in store was because of the transparent nav bar and status bar. Guess what? You lose that transparency if you use anything other than the built in wallpapers. That SUCKS.

Not correct. I already have KitKat 4.4. I just loaded a wallpaper off the internet and the transparency stays just fine. Take a look below. Now, if you change to a different launcher, you lose transparency.

Is that shot from a G2 or Nexus 5? My point being, it may very well be different on 4.4 (I'm hoping it is) but the G2 isn't on 4.4. And my statement still stands...if you use anything other than a stock wallpaper on even the stock launcher, you lose the transparency.

Taken from my Nexus 4, running 4.4 factory image.

I don't mind the button placement on the G2. Also I like the camera button on the back and I think the white on it is much nicer than the white N5 and the G2‘s cameras is better.
I like either one as both look nice but I don't know when the G2 will get kit Kat.

Im currently using Nova and still able to use Knock Knock to lock the phone -Just double tap on the top nav bar and it still works.

That will be helpful to me
I can't get the moto x as that's not available in the UK...so basically its the G2 or Nexus for me/

Ahhh I am in the UK you see.....
It may be completely different to the US

I reckon it would be much cheaper getting the phone outright straight away. 02 are selling the phone with a contract at £500 for the 32gb version. No other phone companies have announced their pricing. Three have 4g unlimited data, 5,000 minutes and unlimited texts for about £21 a month.

Hey yeah i do think its better to buy it straight from Google but as a student I can really afford to spend £300 up front on a phone....

Three are doing this deal for the Nexus 5 16GB....
500 mins, Unlim text and internet for £29 a month with a £49 up front cost for the phone....this is also the exact same deal that is being charged for the LG G2 16GB.

Not sure if that is a good deal tbh? and also 16GB is to small I am thinking? I am not putting any music on my phone but still not sure if 16gb is enough.
