Nexus X and Nexus P ( 2015 ) Smartphones

I noticed he had a naturally shaky hand while he was holding the device and and pointing out pieces of it. We can't really deduce the force required just based on his hand shaking but either way this is a pointless test that really doesn't tell us anything new.

The phone is made out of what is essentially an aluminum can, it is thinner in some places and thus weaker, we logically can't expect it to hold up much better given he makes a point to apply pressure on the weakest points.

Hey everyone. Today's the eve of my Nexus 6p upgrade. I'm coming from the iPhone 5 and have been on iOS since the original iPhone in 2007. So I'm pretty nervous. Just wanted to list some of my concerns & excitement before I transfer over to Android.

Some worries & concerns:
  • Nexus 6p build compared to iPhone, amount of glue on Nexus 6p in iFixit tear down worries me
  • Quality of 3rd Party Applications in the Play Store (good alternatives to tweetbot & overcast for podcasts)
  • Ads in applications, screenshots and youtube show people with ads in their applications; prefer to pay without ads
  • Size, such a huge size difference from iPhone 5 to Nexus 6p
  • How does Android age, the iPhone 5 has aged gracefully for me (first iPhone that I think aged well)
Excitement:
  • fast charging
  • dual front facing stereo speakers
  • access to more opensource applications
  • powerful automation applications
  • ability to change app defaults (hopefully?, not sure never used Android)
  • integration to a linux desktop
Unknown:
  • fingerprint placement on back


I am hoping that my choice of going stock android, is the best transition for a long time iOS user to the Android platform.
Any advice? or App recommendations is welcome.

Google hardware support is very good and generally better than other Android OEM's.

Fenix for Twitter is best Twitter client on the play store

Ads in applications - usually there are paid versions of apps or in-app purchase upgrades to remove them. I have no apps with adverts and will not use apps with them, if I use the app I'm willing to pay for it.

Size difference between 5 & 6P is considerable. You will either love it or hate it. Give yourself a week, Google have a 15 day returns policy if you find yourself unable to adjust

Android on nexus devices is safer bet for long term support. On most other devices android wise I wouldn't expect more than 18 months support or 1 major OS update and even then months and months after it has officially launched. You chose wisely to avoid that with a Nexus device. You should see longer term software support.

Fast charging is very handy. Though not the fastest - fast charger it's very good. 0-100 in around 90 mins

You will be able to change app defaults and easily.

Fingerprint reader on back will be subjective (like it / dislike it) but it is at least very accurate and super fast.

I actually like the 6P one more? Am I alone with that? I think the iPhone photos are often "realistic", but a bit boring/bland.

I mean seriously, every photo you take looks great. You should use your iPhone and sell the pics to Apple for the next keynote.

Right, I'm fast trying to justify moving from 6s Plus to 6P and one thing really really bugging me about the iPhone is that on mobile network coverage 90% of the time whatsapp is always trying and failing to connect to the network.

This really annoys me and it never happened when I had a Note. I can't find a fix for this. Anyone know if this happens on the nexus too? I have a feeling this is an iOS issue and it's really annoying me as I always use whatsapp to share.

Big concern for me is the rapid drop in price buying outright. I got bitten pretty hard with the Nexus 6, doubt I will ever buy these latest/later Nexus phones at launch again.

Honestly, that is most android phones now-a-days. My galaxy note 5 was worth 250-300 (if memory serves me right) less a month after I bought it. Lucky I did a jump-on-demand upgrade.
 
Note 5 worth 250-300?? WHAT??? I would buy one instantly if that is what they sale for, I see Note 4's selling for that price

250-300 dollars less then the retail price.

Yes, 250-300 would be a great deal on that phone
 
Heck yeah and buying a Samsung phone full price is a horrible idea, they always drop quick. I wouldnt pay Samsung/Apple prices for anyone phone though considering what you can get for much cheaper, especially on the low end.

Am I missing something? Verizon is selling Note 5 right now for $700 retail. I know for sure the cheapest Note 5's retail upon release was NOT $950 - $1000

Where are you seeing the note 5 for $450 to $400?

I was referring to a lose in resale value. Swappa, Ebay, etc.

iPhones and apple products in genera hold their value better.

Gotcha. You're right about the resale value of used phones, but I don't think that's what we are talking about here in terms of dropping in price. It's about the price drop of brand new devices by the retailers months after release.

Yes, but android phones go on sale sooner as well. I understood the context, and the shared another side of it.
 
Bummer, I just became aware that wifi calling for AT&T is not supported on the 6p, so that nixes it as a choice. Anyone know if that's something which can be upgraded later on, or is it due to the lack of hardware?
