Who is paying extra for these phones? Certainly isnt us but i see you have no problem paying Apple extra. My GS3 is still cheaper than a iP4S off contract.

You don't think that somewhere in the cost of your device you're paying for all of it's features? Unless you're getting things for free, guess what? YOU'RE PAYING FOR THEM!!! Yay! You pay for the screens, the volueme buttons, the headphone jack, the charging port, you pay for it all! No feature of ANYTHING is free.

What it costs in comparison to something else is really irrelevant.

How is this a hard concept?

Consider how Apple thinks on matters like this:

According to Tim Cook: “Can we control the key technology? Can we make a significant contribution far beyond what others have done in this area?”

If Apple can't answer yes to these two questions, then there will be no NFC in iPhones. If all one can envision is walking to Jamba Juice and swiping their phone to pay for something, then I don't think NFC is bound for Apple.

Start thinking like Apple. How can Apple add NFC in a way that no other device can, and how can it be added in a way that only benefits iOS users and Apple.

Bank on the Apple store experience changing. Plan on iTunes integration. Figure you'll be able to walk into Best Buy with your wifi only iPad or iPod Touch and be able to buy content via NFC that goes directly on to your device.

It could be huge.

Thank you! Couldn't have said it better myself.

Apple integrates itunes with NFC. Apple then gets certain banks and retail outlets to work in conjunction with them at a cost of 3 cents to the dollar for a specified number of years. Apple makes NFC popular, and every retail outlet and bank will then work with Apple after the specified contract period ends with those exclusive partners. By 2015 Apple stock is north of $1000 a share and Apple has 1 trillion dollars cash on hand. Apple then buys the Bahama's, opens their own banking system and moves their HQ offshore, no longer paying US taxes. By 2020, Apple creates the first sentient AI and the robot industry is born. By 2035, there is an iRobot in every home. By 2050, humanity has been assimilated by cybernetics in the pursuit of perfection. Humanity no longer exists. And it all started with the NFC chip.

 and  Will that mean we can't visit the bahamas?

You mean we have to pay for a phone? This is your rebuttle? Seems the concept is lost on you!

The GS3 is no more expensive than the GS2 was while having some more features and comparing another phone is relevent. The GS3 is cheaper right now than the iP4s and the 4S doesnt even have 4G let alone LTE and It has a smaller screen and is an older phone. So who do you suppose is paying for the extras? Surely isnt Android users.

First of all, WaWa is the best thing to happen to anyone who lives in the precious few states where WaWa can be found.

But I hit up several WaWa's on the regular, depending on the area I'm in that day. I bounce around a lot for work. Anyway the average WaWa I go to does not support NFC. There are a couple I've seen but for the most part no. I'd imagine this is true with a lot of the businesses you listed. If a few locations support NFC they can claim the company supports NFC. But I think these companies are rightfully cautious in rolling out NFC to 100% of their stores. It's costly, and the technology is still not proven yet.

I'm not against NFC in any way. I don't have any use for it yet, but I know a lot of people would like to have it on the iPhone.
