I am so confused by this Randy Moss situation. It just doesn't make sense that you would trade for a player and then cut him two weeks later.

The guy really must've been showing his arse in the locker room and at practice. No way they are a better team without him; unless Sidney Rice is coming back in the next few weeks they can benefit from having a deep threat. Percy Harvin can't do it all himself.

Uhh, its simple.

The Vikings are a completely retarded and inept organization. There's a reason they're 2-5, and the Patriots are 6-1.

Tedy Bruschi hits the nail on the head in this video:

The Patriots may be back, but too hard to say at this point in the season. Now that some of those great young, fast Patriot players who achieved so much are not so young anymore, I wonder if they will hold up, healthwise.

I think the core crew of four who won two or three Super Bowls for the Patriots have another two in them if the planets line up right.

They can achieve as a small group an unheard of five championships which the Montana 49ers or the 70s Steel Curtain were unable to do. But I can say that about the NY Giants or the Baltimore Ravens or on any given year, or even Brett Favre all going for a just their second SB win, but none of those are yet to repeat the big feat.

It's simply harder as one gets older. Warner is another example.

The last few plays that constituted the end of SF 49ers Steve Young's career didn't seem like it was that bad, but then again we were talking about a guy with more than ten solid years in the business getting hit by guys who get paid a ton of money to do that. We got so used to Young never having bad injuries or slumps and he played nearly flawlessly until he was 34. After that, he had some memorable games and seasons, but he would never be the consistent QB we expected him to be. I still held out hope he could come back after 2000, recovered fully, and defy his age at 38 and do what only Favre has done in recent memory.

I don't recall Young getting hit as hard as Joe Namath overall, but there was a danger with further concussions and he and Aikman both left (Aikman leaving at 34) when a lot of people wanted to see more.

Brady's injury, when it happened, didn't seem like it would actually take him out for the rest of the season, and maybe it's why he hasn't won another ring.

One trend I have seen by legendary QB guys like Brady, Manning, and Favre, is that they can get out ahead early in the season, but more recently than not, their long history of play and likely injuries (listed or not) take their toll and it shows late in a season after all those hits, and new people like Rivers and Brees come up the ranks.

So far, I can't think of anybody who has been "the" target of defensive players over the years like Brady, Manning, and Favre. So while they played longer than most, these guys also played all those years as starting QBs with a big target sign on them because they established themselves as QB prodigies early on.

A few years ago, I would have asked, "Who the hell are Rivers and Brees and how is it that they have those QB ratings numbers?"

Though I am not a Patriots fan per se, it would be great to see Brady get one more before he retires. I so wanted to see Warner get one more but that wasn't to be. And though I hated the Broncos in the '80s and '90s, it was fun seeing John Elway do well at the end pretty much legitimizing all that great play he had in his earlier years.

The Patriots (#5 AFC) and second in the AFC east are not invincible and they have an insane schedule ahead so I expect them to drop in the AFC rankings as the season goes on. But it will be interesting to see where they go this season as they know how to rally just enough to win. But Brady just doesn't seem to be the same reliable QB he was in younger days. I think they can still be a contender but they are not up front at #1 which is their usual spot most of the time.

I have no doubt the Jets (#2 AFC) and Giants (#1 NFC) will be contenders and possibly the teams to beat this year. I expect these highly ranked teams to hold their lead and become even more dominating, especially the Jets.

When I wrote off the 49ers (#14 NFC) for a lost season, they win one and improve to 2-6, and in a division where the leader has only 4 wins. It's not hopeless yet but they will really have to kick it into high gear which some great SF teams of the past have done. The lost some close ones to good teams and that should be a factor. Good for them. They are my team and they have to continue like their last win and simply outlast the other team. I don't expect this years Niners to crush anybody good.

The Raiders (#8 AFC) are doing better than I would expect at 5-4 in second in the AFC west and I hope they can keep winning and make the playoffs. They have a slight uphill battle.

These are the teams I like to watch and some that I don't watch, like the Ravens (#1 AFC) or Falcons (#2 NFC), can take it all away this year. This could be the magic year for the Falcons to get their first SB win so I assume they are hungrier than anybody out there.

The highest rated QB in the NFL righ now....... is....... Michael Vick!

Wow, he led the Eagles to a win over the Colts yesterday. The NFC is looking very interesting.

I hope Wade is around next weekend to see the Giants put up 60 points against the Cowboys.

Here is hoping he is not. I am hoping he is gone like he should of been at the end of last season......... Who to replace I don't know...
There are 2 ways to look at it, fire him now and get a lame duck coach to fill out the season or just let Wade finish out and start fresh next year. Jerry is going to go after a big coach next year. Do you try to change direction now or just let the ship sink to the bottom.

As much as I despise the guy, this goes to show he was no fluke in his Atlanta days when the commentators talked about his incredible speed and scrambling abilities and the hype that went along with that. He was always the super talent waiting to bust out. In 2006, he had a good year with Atlanta with 20 passing TDs and over 1,000 yards rushing. He's not quite on that pace this year, but if he can stay healthy for at least 14 or 15 games next season, he can get those types of numbers he had in 2006. I don't know if he has the same speed to bust out for a thousand yards rushing ever again, but I say he has a couple of good years when he can reach 20 TDs and close to 1,000 yards rushing in a season.

Philly can take advantage of the fact they are in a good position and their all time nemesis (and often spoiler), the Dallas Cowboys, are pretty much a non-factor this season. But if any team, in a great season, merely good season, or bad season, is destined not to win a Super Bowl or is a sure bet to lose in an early playoff round when they are heavily favored, it's the Eagles (44 seasons, 18 playoff appearances, 0 Super Bowls). I can't think of any team in any sport that does so well in the regular season only to blow it in the postseason (or the 4th quarter in a postseason game).

Hmmm... interesting. Not surprising, but interesting. I don't think we'll get a big name coach unless Jerry let's them bring in their own assistants and coordinators. Who knows, he may give Garret a legit shot and not just the end of this season.

i was shocked that they decided to can phillips today. i thought he was going to coach the rest of the season and then get canned. btw, i knew the cowboys were going to be a bad team (had them at 7-9 and last place in the east), they looked like frauds and everyone was still overrating them. but i don't think anyone had them tied for worst record in the nfc.

^You're probably the only person on this planet that is shocked by Phillips getting canned. The Boys got absolutely smoked last night on national TV... that hurt Jerry's ego too much.

i wasn't shocked that he got fired, as i knew he was getting canned. but i expected it after the season was over, not today, since you don't usually see nfl coaches get canned mid-season. now if this was baseball, i would say otherwise.

No Way Jerry let the team limp into NY with Wade at the helm. They will still get beat badly but I think Jerry did Wade a favor.

On a different subject: I am loving what I'm seeing out of the Browns lately. Beating the Saints and the Patriots in successive games was sweet enough, but this kid Colt McCoy looks like the real deal. Saw him make several dead-accurate throws while being chased out of the pocket yesterday. For three games now, he's been turning busted plays into first downs.

We Cleveland fans have seen a succession of mediocre (at best) quarterbacks -- Derek Anderson, Tim Couch, Charlie Frye and many more -- but this kid really looks better than any of 'em. He's really cool under pressure. If you didn't know better, watching him you wouldn't think he was a rookie.

Thank you Mike Holmgren. :D

And bring on the Jets!
