The Bears just released Cedric Benson - 4th overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft, and sixth all time in rushing yards, NCAA Division I-A.
Jesus, the Bears keep their players on a short leash. I know he's run into a little trouble with the law as of late (arrested twice for alcohol related offenses - one of which is being contested), but that's hardly a reason to dump such a high profile pick you had so much money invested in, after he's barely had a chance to play.
You can argue that he wasn't very effective in the limited action he saw, but I feel a majority of the blame should lay on the offense as a whole, particularly the offensive line that couldn't open a hole for him with the 'Jaws of Life'. At least give the guy a complete year to prove his worth.
Now he'll likely move onto a more patient and better-run team, where he'll succeed and embarrass the Bears for jumping the gun. It really sucks to be a Bears fan, sometimes. I wish the McCaskey and Halas family would just sell already.
On a side note - stop drafting Texas running backs with dreadlocks. Apparently, they have issues.
