Wishful Thinking!

This would be a big step for Apple TV.

If this does happen, I would think a lot of more content would come to Apple TV.

read up on what's happening with Comcast and Netflix/Level 3. if this gets popular then the content owners will have to pay up a fortune in bandwidth costs or have their traffic go over the general internet and performance will suck

Apple TV should really push live streaming. With enough content, it eventually could replace cable tv.

Content. Content. Content.

The streaming technology is already there to make this happen right now, but the networks are not going to put their cable retrans and ad revenue in jeopardy unless the market forces them to do it because they don't think they will replace their revenue dollar for dollar.

Eventually, enough people are going to decide that what's available online isn't perfect but it's enough to justify dropping their cable subscription. Until that starts to happen in a more significant way than it is right now, I don't see the networks moving current content to Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon VOD, etc.

The concessions that DOJ is trying to get from Comcast about making sure NBC content will be made available to online services should be getting a LOT more attention than it is.

There are very few shows currently inclining me to keep a satellite subscription, and unfortunately the NFL is not one of them......but it is a start.

If Apple can get HBO and Showtime to offer their programs a la carte (or even subscriptions to the individual channels rather than shows) I would also drop Dish.

Hope that day comes soon!

Great news! Now get this del with the NBA, and I can ditch cable at last! Die, giant cable bill, DIE!

Can I ask a question that I reckon most of you would be able to answer?
I know the apple tv is only hdmi output--but I have an older projection tv that only has rca inputs.
Is there a conversion cord/box or something that I can use to hook up an atv to this tv? If so, how much?/links?

Thanks!

If I could use it to Live Stream the SuperBowl, and if they worked a deal with the NCAA for bowl games I could cancel Cable altogether and not even need to put up an antenna.
Super Bowl is already free via local channels virtually everywhere in the country. It is not, and will never be, a part of Sunday Ticket.

Oh, and this would be excellent. Although I may just have to check into To Go, I did not realize NFLST was now available outside of DirecTV.

i'm not a football fan so the content doesn't interest me, but the concept does. if it's true and it's deemed a success it won't be long before other content creators start to offer content. espn3, setanta and mls and i'll be happy.

I am in the Chicago Bears market, so I can get their games OTA no problem. However, this is great news for the possibility of other sports or programming to come to the AppleTV, I am not particularly interested in this.

Now, offer ALL - even in market - NHL or MLB games in HD and I am soooooo in!

Streamin based on IP or purchase account in iTunes

I'm a big NFL fan living in Holland. I'm wondering if the streaming of the games would be based on IP address. So basically blocking us international customers out.

Or would it work like the way I get my tv and movies through iTunes now, by using my US iTunes account?

thx
Rik

HOLY CRAP are they expensive. Monoprice has the same stuff for 1/3 the price and it appears to be the same OEM manufacturer.

Hmm, I should have looked at Monoprice first, of course. But they only carry the Furys (or did, "not in stock", no expected date), and they are in the same price range. We are discussing HDMI to component, here. It's not just a cable. Unless my searching abilities are poor, I don't see a wall of these at Monoprice. They've seldom had them, from my recollection.

Probably should mention that converting HDMI to component is also tricky in terms of copy protection. There may be some source material that will not play through such a device.

You can get it directly from NFL.com. Why bother dealing with directv?

Just want to reiterate becasue a lot of people are missing the facts. You currently can watch the "NFL Sunday Ticket To-Go" WITHOUT a subscription to DirecTV. The $350 is it. No subscription required.

I tried this thing and it was absolutely horrible. I would be pissed if I paid the entire $350.

ebay

bought some hdmi cables there over the summer for $5 each including shipping

NBA Season Pass blacks out too many games. I live in southern California, and they black out almost every Laker game.

you should of read the terms
local games are blacked out

and try using some type of proxy to get around it if you have league pass broadband

I really hope you don't think that $5 cables compare in any way to transcoding video streams laden with DRM from the most closed digital transport system in history into analog, esp considering we are 2 weeks from the analog sunset. (the actual sunset, not what wikipedia erroneously points to)
