What I didn't like most was how long it took for the lady to stare at the phone and then swipe up. The amount of time for her to stare at the phone and swipe up was much longer than Touch ID even on an iPhone 6.

Face ID worked straight away, it was very fast on that video.

I liked how he presented the phone. Though I kept staring at the bezels wondering how thick they are...

(I have a feeling the lady was probably a little nervous if it failed on recognizing her face... she kept smiling at the phone every time she was asked to unlock the phone with Face ID, which makes me wonder if she registered her face "with a smile" when she set up Face ID)

The way he talked about the wireless charging and highlighted the glass back was very interesting. The possibility of cleaning the phone with Windex seems enticing :D

It's hard to tell, but I think that the phone was actually unlocked well before the lady swiped up. I think she might not have realized or simply forgot or was expecting him to swipe himself but she went ahead and did it because he kept the phone pointed at her. He couldn't see when the phone was unlocked so he kept it pointed at her longer than necessary (until she swiped) rather than risk pulling it away too soon.

you have to realize that you can more then likely swipe up right when the screen turns on from black to on. There doesn't seem like a need to wait till it unlocks by the time your touching it I think it will be ready to open.

Not sure if this demo was posted, but it has me more excited about getting this device than I previously was.. even with the notch at the top. I think the we will eventually embrace that notch going forward, because other than that, this phone has a lot going for it. In a future release, maybe Apple will do something about that notch. But the other features of this phone, I have waited to long for to pass up. If we complain enough about the notch, I think Apple will listen. Check out the demo if you havent seen it. Hopefully this YouTube link im pasting will work. Thoughts?

There is no doubt in my mind, that the phone will scratch easily.

Hopefully the space gray version has the back DLC coating on the stainless steel. My Apple Watch has taken some nasty bumps and still looks flawless.

You are right, and I think thats what were all waiting to really see. I want to see exactly how landscape mode looks for videos, games, etc., and a lot of demos seem to be skipping it.
Doubtful there would be games installed on the units so they probably were not able to see

Unfortunately not. It's PVD which is not as hard as DLC but more hard wearing than bare SS.

This is making my decision on which colour I want hard. On one hand you have bare SS which is quite easy to polish out scratches.
And on the other you've a PVD coating that if does get scratched, you won't be able to polish out for fear of removing more coating to bare SS. But it may indeed be very scratch resistant.

Decisions, decisions.........

Try this one @ 1:56 & 2:17.

It looks like 2 different aspect ratios are shown, with the 2:17 example slightly larger than the one at 1:56.

If anyone can explain the reason behind this, it'd be appreciated. I'm thinking movies are shot in more than one aspect ratio & that's what we're seeing here?

One is zoomed and one is not but more than likely the same aspect ratio.

It will probably take some time for games that support the X’s aspect ratio to appear.

We went through a similar issue when apps had to switch from 4:3 to 16:9.

Good to see 1Password working here with FaceID. Looks great!

The swipe up timing comes down to the user. What you need to do is stare at the Lock symbol up top & see how long that takes to change to the unlock symbol once the user looks at the screen. You'll notice that's pretty quick. This is what I was looking at most, rewinding & playing back the moment the person intended to unlock & the time it took to get that unlock symbol.

It’s still a lot faster to pull your phone out of your pocket with your thumb and boom. Unlocked. This requires looking at the phone and then swiping up. Not a fan of this.

It may be very similar, actually. Apparently you don't need to wait to look at the phone to swipe up. Just take phone out, swipe up while you look at it, and it should unlock. From what I've read, you don't need to wait till the phone unlocks before swiping up.

Don't get me wrong. This won't be as fast as pulling your phone out of your pocket while pressing Touch ID, but it's at least not as slow as people have made out.

You just think you do. Don't rush into it. Give some more thought to the iPhone 8 plus. Give some consideration to those of us all set to order the iPhone X.

Just because I want one doesn't mean I am getting one right now, want vs need even though I said NOW lol. I already have my 8 on pre-order. Besides, me wanting one and actually getting one has no effect on whether you get one or not. Different carriers, locations, etc. etc.

Three years with my 6+, I can wait another 3 before getting rid of the 8.

Excellent video that has alleviated some of the concerns I had with the X. I must say it's very tempting although my current 7 contract is not up for another 12 months so unless I want my Mrs. to stab me in the face I guess I'll be waiting for the revised model (providing it comes out next September).

Thanks for sharing.

Pay off the phone early and then the Mrs. won't have to go to jail for assaulting you with a knife.

The first few minutes of that video were really great and had me wanting the phone. Then he wasted a tonne of time on the animoji nonsense, and he didn't show a video being played.

But my overall impression is that the phone is way better than the moaners on here seem to think it is. I can't justify trading up at all (I have a 7+ which, until about 10 minutes ago, I totally loved and thought was the best phone in the world) and I certainly can't justify the expense.

But why oh why oh why are Apple releasing the phone without an Apple charging pad available for sale? It's like when they released the iPhone 7 without having the AirPods ready to ship.

Oh . . . I've stopped caring about battery life and battery indicators. I never run out of battery on any of my Apple products.

Tell her that if you get the X/8, she can 'virtually' stab you in the face using its Augmented Reality feature. :D
