I used to really love Destin and the Redneck Riveria, but it's just too commercial for my tastes now. When I was a kid, there were camping sites right on the beach in Destin. Now it's all condos. I've never lived in FL, but I have visited several places.

If you are looking for out of the way places, away from the developed areas, some of the state parks are nice. Perdido Key state park is good. Lovers Key and Indian Key are pretty nice. I also enjoyed Amelia Island.

I live in FL unfortunately. There really aren't any nice places. The crime rate in most places is out of control, and the counties rape you with the property and sales taxes.

not all of florida is what you say. i would say dade and broward would fit, but not everywhere in the state.

florida is a very large state. what kind of trip do you want? city life or wildlife, or something else? what regions do you want to explore?

on that note, i would say the treasure coast is a good option, its somewhat less populated than the rest of the florida coastline, mostly small towns.
