Haha! Nevermind this post - I just made a post in what looked like an interesting thread - and now I just realized I made a similar post in here TWO YEARS AGO!

Born in '89

I remember

Legends of the Hidden Temple.
Double Dare 2000.
The one where the kids represented countries and did challenges then had to climb a mountain.
Kenen and Kel.
Doug.

Edit: And I cant forget the best ever... Growing Pains

Yep, born in '93... Gotta love Doug and I can't believe I forgot about that. I will go and download an episode right now from Youtube :)

But what's this "new" Doug I been hearing on Disney? I remember seeing it and not liking it but I don't remember exactly what it was about. Can some one explain to me what this "new" Doug is?

I dunno how different the UK Nickelodeon was but I do remember on Pace's Sky receiver the Nickelodeon name was much too long to enter for a user (shouldn't have tried editing it!). So on our box it was Nikelodeon

Born in '86. Remember the old Nickelodeon adverts on regular TV. Sister Sister, Keenan and Kel, Angry Beavers, 3 Friends and Jerry, Rocko's Modern Life (first show I watched on Sky!). Forgot a load of it but I used to love that channel. And Cartoon Network.

While nothing beats the old Looney Tunes stuff, I will admit that there's one show on Nickelodeon that I don't mind watching with my little one: The Backyardigans. It's imaginative, teaches kids simple things without being preachy or forced, and it has a gently warped sense of humor. The best cartoons are the ones where they have jokes that go right over the little kids' heads but appeal to the adults watching. Whoever writes this show has a nice sense of farce comedy, so I like it.

The Wonderpets can be amusing sometimes too, but that show quickly wears out its welcome when you realize it's only got something like 20 episodes.

Now, Nick might have room for more good shows if it weren't playing Spongebob thirteen times a day.

I'm going to date myself here, but Nickelodeon was fairly new when I was watching, during the "silver ball" period. You Can't Do That On Television was one of my favorites, but the young nerdling in me totally gravitated to The Tomorrow People. Mysterious Cities of Gold and Belle and Sebastian were good when they added them later. They had all sorts of other odd little programs like The Third Eye and Into the Labyrinth that were okay, but I don't remember caring for them quite so much. Mr. Wizard's World was endlessly cool, of course, and I still want my own supply of lycopodium powder.

I don't remember if they actually had real commercials to begin with, but during breaks they had things like "The Vocabulator," which was kind of an oscilloscope display with a voiceover that taught a word-of-the-day sort of thing, and puzzle kinds of shorts about finding pirate treasure and such, though the selection was so limited you would see the same ones all the time.

I was sort of outgrowing Nickelodeon anyway by the time Double Dare turned into a huge hit and they rebranded themselves with the orange splat, but they still try to drag me back now and again with things like Ren & Stimpy and Invader ZIM. I think they're probably going the route of getting more and more bland over time, so such subversive fare is less likely to slip past S&P and onto the air.

I loved all these shows! Reading through this thread brings back great memories of hours upon hours of refusing to socialize with the other children in the neighborhood so I could watch cartoons. :p But I do agree that children's television programs have gone severely downhill since we were kids (ie the 80's and 90's). No wonder the next generation is so messed up.

BTW - I still can't believe that nobody has mentioned how awesome "Avatar" is now. It's the one thing that has a hope of revitalizing Nick to its once proud glory.

Please don't laugh, but I watch that show, too. As a "musician," I find the range of musical genres on that show wonderful. It's the only Nick show I've ever been able to watch.

(People say Avatar is good, but I never have seen it)

Hey Arnold, Rugrats, and Rocket Power were the best cartoons ever.

Now Nick is putting out a whole load of crap. What's happened?
