Well after receiving the Nifty Mini Drive from Amazon and putting a 128Gb Sandisk card inside, I noticed two things:

1) The Nifty wouldn't actually fit into my 2015 13" rMBP ... In it's original state, the Nifty drive would go in slightly to the left when looking at the side of the laptop. After comparing this to a regular SD card, you could see that the plastic housing of the Nifty was slightly larger. I rectified this by cutting off the small plastic protrusion. Now it fits in but the metallic portion of the Nifty drive sits slightly to the left of the SD card slot now.

2) As far as using the micro SD card for storing my photo library (only around 40-50Gb), reading off the disk made using Photos really slow and choppy so I've decided to put the photos library back on the SSD.
