So the link still is not working I know, web design is redoing the site and we are releasing several new products soon including the Retina 13 128GB drive, in solid metal! if you do want to be informed asap about the release of this drive send an email to help@theminidrive.com with "Retina 13 mailing list" in the subject line. Expected Release date first week of May 2014, so very soon.

Site will also be fixed in more ways than the mailing list link by the begging of May.

I have a late 2013 model Macbook Pro 15" Retina.
I would like to have a Minidrive for this Macbook.
I calculate the inside space should be about 1,7 centimeter.
Even shorter then the Macbook Pro 13" Retina.
Really I don't understand why the 15" SD adapter hole is smaller, while the notebook is bigger in size?

Any idea when the Nifty adapter is available for the Macbook Pro 15" Retina (late 2013)?

Nifty Mini Drive

Hi,

I just bought the Nifty Mini Drive and i'm very happy with it, but i have a question, when i use the standard SandDisk SD Adapter i get read/write speeds of 41mb/s but when i use the Nifty Mini Drive and run the test i get always 5mb/s read/write, i don't know if it's a problem with the Mini Drive or if that is normal?

I have a SandDisk Extreme 64 Gb.

Thx.

re Nifty Mini Drive

We are not Nifty but a different and similar company in the US called The MiniDrive online at theminidrive.com. MicroSD cards are notoriously slow, it is for this reason that we released a 128gb integrated MiniDrive, same flush fit as Nifty but with 128GB and read write speeds of 90mb/s & 60mb/s. If you are looking for a faster (run parallels or vmware) flush SD drive give our NEW 128GB MiniDrives drives a look.

Thanks

minidrive

I have been looking into the minidrive http://minidrive.bynifty.com/

I guess I am not completely sure what the use is for. Is it just like a constant connection to an external "hard drive" I was told it was a good Idea to have. Can someone please explain the benefits of having one?
Thank you

Manage your MiniDrive with Mountain

Hi guys,

the upcoming version 1.6 of Mountain introduces exciting new features for MiniDrive users. Read about the new features in this article. We also have a free trial version available for you.

It helps you solving the deep sleep issue with automatic unmounting and remounting on sleep and wake from sleep. Also it can lock the nifty from being ejected accidentally in the Finder. However in case the MiniDrive was ejected you can still remount it using the new “Remount USB Storages” feature.

We hope you like it!!

nifty mini drive and mountain

After I read the article in the above post. I purchased a nifty mini drive for my mid 2012 macbook pro. Perfect fit, I got the mountain beta and tested this for about 2 1/2 hours with the nifymd unmounted. The battery only drained 1% during that time. I feel the software works with the drive so I purchased the software from the mountain site for $5.99 so I can get updates.

I had held off buying the nifty after hearing that with it installed it would drain the battery. I would recommend both the software and nifty mini drive.

@9512tacoma Thank you very much for your feedback!! it is very much appreciated and we are glad you like it!! Also thank you very much for purchasing!!

Just want to let all of you now that we fixed some bugs in the latest version 1.6 beta (35). You might want to update. You can find the version number of your Mountain copy under |Support|About Mountain|

We hope you like it!!

i really regret buying a 128gb macbook. At least buying this mini drive helps a little. I added 128gb micro sd and now its all good

I'm looking for a 128Gb microsd card for the nifty mini drive, can anyone recommend a fast and reliable one?

It will be primarily for storing my photo library on it, so perhaps speed isn't so much of an issue.

In any case, you should get a Class 10 one. Prefer brands like Kingston, Sandisk, Lexar, etc. (i.e. the "famous brands"). Check with amazon.de for any price advantages.

class 10

you don't really need anything more than a class 10 or samsung evo microSD card for this, u won't be running apps on it.

I picked up a 128gb for 65$ a couple months ago.. just put in a price watch on camelcamelcamel and it'll probably hit soon enough..

I was looking at doing the same thing for my new early 2015 Retina MacBook Pro and was considering the following microSD card on Amazon UK. SanDisk is a good reputable brand which I have used before.

If you have a rMBP this is a good or better option. These were under 70$ over the weekend, just setup a price alert or buy it here at 72$

Yes I am aware of the Trannscend JetDrives. I'm in the UK but they are also available here too. Their draw back as far as I can tell is that your stuck with the storage that's in them and you can't swap out memory cards which to me is a disadvantage. I already have a 32GB microSD card which I would also like to use along with any larger storage I get. I believe something like the Nifty Drive allows this as you can swap out the memory cards.

indeed, the transcend is a fixed amount, whereas anything that leverages a microsd card could be upgraded to a large card when they become available. (and apparently we're going to be getting 256GB and 1TB cards in the not too distant future 12-18 months)
