Since the :apple:watch is not waterproof and maybe might not be for awhile, I hope the Nike upcoming band can be that and have a way to track water sports like swimming.
Also I am not really planning to give up my Omega and I would like to have a thin band next too it instead of a watch from Apple.

Well, in 1994-1997, Apple did license out their Mac OS for Macintosh Clones. There actually was a time where Apple-approved Mac clones existed. I know it was a different time, pre-Steve Jobs, but now it's post-Steve Jobs, so anything can happen.

I owned a couple. Never liked them as much as my other Apples at the time. There's a reason they don't do that anymore.

The Garmin Forerunner 620/220 which is their top tier GPS running watch sells for $400/$250, respectively. If you don't need the color display or detailed coaching features you can pick up the Forerunner 15 (GPS & activity tracker) or the Forerunner 10 for $170/$130, respectively.

Those devices appeal to a much smaller group of people. Only a small number of even very dedicated runners buy those things. On the other hand, tons of people will buy the Apple Watch and happen to be a runner too so they'll utilize the function.

You're correct, however, I'm responding to your comment that Garmin wristbands, and the like, cost more than the Apple Watch will, when in reality most all wristband options for GPS and/or activity tracking are comparable or cost much less. They also, typically, come with more advanced analytics and reporting than the Apple Watch or Nike hardware/software provide for running, specifically.

Without proper GPS most runners will pass. I think I'm going to pick up a Garmin Forerunner myself.

The Nike CEO has been on the Apple Board for many years. Hardly anything that needed to be "reinvigorated." From the interview it's Nike trying to attach its sails to Apple's boat.

Also your description GT Advance's financial condition and its effect on Apple is amusing. You must have been a headline writer at the National Enquirer. AAPL is at all time highs (up $1.90 today). Some desperation. :D

Whoops, I didn't mean to touch a raw nerve. I'm sure you'll have an iWatch for every day of the week soon enough.

Apple's stock hit another all-time record high today. Do you think it was because of the Nike announcement? Or do investors think settling the Sapphire Collapse clears another hurdle?

They reported phenomenal sales of the iPhone 6, and record sales of computers also. Apple doesn't seem that desperate to me.

Nike should team with Amazon. The ad copy writes itself:

Add Fuel™ to the Fire™.

Yeehaw! Thanks for the update.

My big idea for the Fuelband is that they add iPhone notifications for phone calls and texts from the contact Favorites. And keep the current display and battery life. I will buy one of it costs $150.

We will see Nike running shoes with integrated GPS - charged kinetically and connecting to the :apple:Watch of course.

It WOULD be interesting if Nike's next FuelBand had many of the features of an Apple Watch, including iPhone connectivity, but in band-style. So, those who are not in favor of a watch form factor could use this form factor.

Bet it would be 1/3rd the cost. I doubt apple would allow this in the initial stages. Would make sense if apple kept iphone pairing exclusive for the first year or so.

Nike's current Fuel Band is $150, that's already 43% of the cost of an iWatch. I doubt Nike would LOWER the fuel band price AND make it integrate with the iPhone, have a touch-screen, etc. It would more likely be $250-$350.

And the corporate tug-of-war between the techies and jocks at Nike continues.

Old Nike: Sell to athletic markets by athletes; if you did not graduate college on an athletic scholarship, you have no hope for upper management. Distribution done via resellers.

New Nike: Sell to anyone with fitness or fads in mind; we need upper management with a holistic view towards fitness, health and personal technology -- especially in this age of wearable. Distribution done via Nike Stores modeled after Apple Stores.

Then there is the running field in front of their Oregon Headquarter that really symbolizes corporate life at Nike. That is, you do a whole lot of effort moving and progressing but you end up where you started.

Still can't seeing apple allowing iPhone integration ad this will erode I watch sales

You have that right. When the Apple watch was launched, I kept on thinking Nike will discontinue the Fuel Band and just have Nike branded apps on the Apple Watch. Then again, there may be a weight factor with the Apple Watch to wear during rigorous exercising that may differentiate the products.

Current Fuelband is only $99 and has been for quite a while. The price only goes back to $150 if you are trying to get a fancy METALUXE variant.
