used it for a week and got bored of it and sold it. No real motivation to keep using it. Just a pedometer at most.

Which hand?

Which arm do you wear your fuelband on? I just got on for x-mas. I am left handed and a teacher so I do a lot of writing on a blackboard each day. I imagine that would have an effect? Thanks for your help!

Can someone explain what is the point to the Fuelband and Up? Seems like it's just a way to motivate people that are lazy.

I've had mine for a few weeks and definitely like it. However, I'm finding it fairly difficult to reach the 2,000 fuel goal. Example - just went on a 5 mile (10,000 step) walk and only got 1,400 fuel points. Battery life is amazing too! I find that I only need to charge it every 5-6 days.

I got one. It is extremely inaccurate. There is no point in buying this as a precise measure of you steps/calories burned, etc.

I would say the only ok parameter is the fuel, since it is some arbitrary unit of measure. Use it as a general guideline about how much you are moving around.

I used it for about a week and failed to see any point in it. between remembering to put it on, cleaning it (it builds up gunk from all the workouts), syncing, etc. it's a fail imo.

since it is not precise, you may as well just calculate internally in your head.

I have the opportunity to get one from craigslist on monday for $90, Ive read very positive things about it, especially on the Nike website has a 4.5 star rating over 850 reviews.

people tend to defend their purchases if nothing serious is wrong.

This is really just a very hipster thing to wear (I've seen two geniuses with it already).

Cons:

1. Cycling through all the stats with one button (two presses to see the actual numbers).

2. Inaccurate (both false positive and false negatives). You can't rely on the calorie burn measure, and this may even lead you to overeat if you are basing your meals on it. Pedometer is almost completely worthless. Fuel? Ok. Whatever that is worth.

3. Design makes for water/sweat getting onto USB contact plate when you put on/remove the band

4. Coating already deteriorated slightly in 2 weeks of use. Can't imagine the long run.

5. Gunk builds up from sweat. I put it on one day, and there was literally a slime between the band and my wrist after I started perspiring. You have to clean it.

6. Doesn't work with other Nike+ apps.

Pros:

1. Cool/hip.
2. Lightweight with a comfortable satin rubber finish
3. Lighting looks cool.
4. Battery life is good for at least 5 days.

It's a fun way to keep track of your fitness. Sure, it's not something serious, but it's great to see where you are throughout the day. I already started a Fuelband thread in the Community section and it's great!

battery life

The battery life on the initial fuel band I bought was poor. I am going to wait for Nike's second version of it to buy. I returned mine, loved it, but the battery would go down in one day.

I'm getting tired of my fuel band. I'd like something that will allow heart monitoring in addition to calorie tracking. .

When is the new one coming out?

Sounds like you had a bad one. Mine lasts for 5-6 days without having to charge.

I shower with it daily. I realized in the shower once that the clip had came undone. No telling how long it was like that. Happened about 2 months ago. I charge it once a week and it's still perfect.

Either people need one, don't need one, want one, or don't want one.

There are obviously some people that need one on this site before they falsely review something that they don't own.

Just to give my thoughts on the Fuel Band:

Overall, it seems to be very accurate.
I do not shower with it on just because I do not want the screws to rust. The app is great as well, very good UI. I like being able to look at the time by simply pressing the button, but when I do that, I can see my progress for the day.

Not even a question, The Fuel Band helps me stay active and motivated. The app coheirs with the band flawlessly.

My only complaint is the a "fuel point." I still have no idea what it is or how it works. Nike comes up with an arbitrary number to say, "hey, you are moving!" Maybe a better description is needed.

As far as I am concerned though, Fuel Points keep me working and moving. If you have any question, let me know! Ask me on here or on my website. I will have a full review in the next few months probably.

From my experience... Every 3 Fuel Points pretty much equals 1 calorie. Don't know if that's absolute fact, so don't hold me to it, but from my experience that seems to be the connection.

From what I've read and in my experience with the Fuelband, Fuel is counted like this:

You vs. Usain Bolt on a 100m dash. Sure, he may smoke you but you both gained about the same amount of Fuel based on oxygen intake.

I don't remember where I read that, but the band is surely a fun way to keep track of your movement daily.

That doesn't explain how fuel is calculated at all ??

Yeah I don't understand it completely too. Has something to do with oxygen intake. Nike motto is about anyone with a body is an athlete so the Fuelband is for everyone. I'm just rambling here.

I never viewed the band as a serious exercise tool. But it's very fun and cool to have to track your movement.

Has nothing to do with oxygen... That makes no sense. There's accelerometers in the band that track movement and then gives you a fuel rating based on that.

Actually it does. Like I said, I'm just telling you what I read. I still am trying to understand it but don't really care much. Here's the link from Wired: http://www.wired.com/playbook/2012/01/nike-fuelband/

You read marketing HYPE. Use your brain: it is impossible for this device to read your oxygen intake. If you read the article, the HYPE claims the algorithms were based on a study that correlated movement to oxygen intake on a small sample group. If you think about what this means, it means oxygen has nothing to do with the fuelband you bought, and was mentioned to make the reading more credible. Who cares what the algorithm does: your fuelband can ONLY measure movement, and thus anything and everything on top of that parameter will still be a manipulation of that SINGLE parameter.

I can correlate my nike fuelband movement to tidal data, build an algorithm that takes that information and create "Nike Gravity." Guess what: gravity will have nothing to do with the fuelbands I sell, except in deceiving people into thinking it is more sophisticated than it is.

"Nike Fuel" is just an arbitrary unit of measurement. Given that the fuelband can ONLY measure accelerations and movement in general, fuel is based on movement.
