Nike+ & iPhone

C'mon, guys! iPods are for running, iPhones are for gaming and tip calculators, shoes are for accelerometers.

Seriously, though, this does suck. As soon as it was announced for the iPod touch, I thought we'd hear "and iPhone 3Gs have this, too!" But evidently Steve & Co. live by my statement above.

I own an iPhone 3G but I run with an iPod shuffle, so I was on the fence about just buying Nike's new SportBand, and I had put off the purchase until after today's announcements. Now I know I'm probably safe to buy it, since there seems to be no priority on deploying Nike+'s functionality across the lineup.

That's a shame, too. :\

This sucks. I was all excited about running with my iPhone and getting into shape. Now I'm just going to drink beer and watch TV instead. :(

The reason this won't work on the iPhone is because Apple doesn't want everyone to see how many times they've had to run back to the Apple Store to replace their defective iPhones.

Man ...

I really, really, really hope we get a dongle or hear something about this soon.

Was really looking forward to Nike + iPhone.

Me too, feeling really bummed about this. I remember seeing the leaks a couple months back and getting excited about it, now what a huge let down.

Who wants to keep track of a dongle. Me personally, my phone is not my instrument of choice for working out. Nanos and Shuffles are for recreation. iPhones are for lifestyle.

Have you ever ventured into the Nike+ forums where people complain about the sweat killing their Nanos? And you seriously want to use a far more expensive piece of kit with it?

Not to mention that it's awkward enough to change the music, use the screen on an iPod Touch/iPhone anyhow when wandering around, let alone while running. The Nano is much better suited for with the responsive click to get power songs or updates. I dread to think how tough it will be to use the touchscreen with either sweaty hands or running gloves on.

I run with my iPhone. It's in a case, safe from sweat. I change the music easily. (Not that hard, if you ask me.) Either way, I'm EXTREMELY disappointed.

Plus a Zune, so I have actual capacity.

Owneda Nano before I bought my iPhone.

Also, just realized today that I will greatly appreciate the battery life on my Nano as I fly to China next week. ;)

While I do agree that it is nearly impossible to find a specific song you want while running, I must disagree that the Nano would do a better job. IMO the difficulty is in looking at the screen while on the move. The V-moda's or included Apple buds try to solve this issue by including music controls inline.

You can't change playlist/look for specific songs while using Nike+ without pausing the workout - I'm talking about doing it on the fly where a single click with the thumb to skip the track is really easy.

Music controls inline do help - curious as how to they'd allow the Power song selection or the 'update' as to your progress.

Has there been any official confirmation that Nike+ isn't compatible for the iPhone? Or is this speculation based on the ads?

+1 LOL. I'm sincerely bummed that it won't be for the iPhone. I have the iPHone for a device that does ALL. i don't want to buy some other toy for running.
