I went for a run with out Phone yesterday. Although I haven't lost a map yet, I have lost say the first couple of hundred metres, presumably because the watch was still getting a GPS lock. What I did yesterday was, before I went I went into the app on my phone, and then into the app on my watch, started a run, and then ended it and discarded it. Then I went out without my phone and went for my run. My entire map was recorded no problems (and 8K run).

I'm pretty pleased with the GPS accuracy to be honest, it's just as good as the Garmin Vivoactive I was using previously.

Now pretty much just waiting on Runkeeper or Strava to release their app, which they seem to be taking their sweet time about. Yes I'd rather they get it right, but the watch has been out for nearly two months now, and people like Pear Sports had support for it within a couple of weeks of release.

What's worked on prior GPS watches and also seems to work with my AW2 is that when I head out for a run, before I do a few stretches I start the app and immediately pause it. Then I do any other getting ready, including stretches. Finally, I unpause and start my run. This has solved most start-point issues on every watch I've owned.

I really wish the AW2 / NRC offered some indicator for GPS signal though.

Another quirk?

Now use Jabra pulse (hr monitor) headphones and went for a run whilst in London with phone, AWS0 and headphones. Headphones linked to watch. NRC app logged and displays everything, plus passes data to Apple health & activity properly. The HR does seem a bit off though.

All good(ish).

Get back the ME and try without the watch. No HR recorded in NRC or activity. Activity is recorded for time spent, but calories are not passed through to the rings, even though the NRC event appears in the exercise minutes.

So far, solution seems to be to take all three out with me, but it's hard to tell if the supposedly more accurate HR from the headphones is passing to the app.

I've come to the conclusion that the current state of the NRC app is broken. It's so inconsistent as to why things work one time, and don't work the next time. Is it too much to ask Nike for an app that works they way you expect in a consistent manner?

Here's what I want.

1. The watch and phone apps work seemlessly together, regardless of which device started the run.
2. Bluetooth HR monitors work regardless of whether it's connected to the watch or the iPhone.
3. Elevation information is recorded regardless of which GPS signal is used. If it's because the watch doesn't have the proper hardware, then allow the app to use the phone's hardware, or allow the website to calculate the elevation (based on map data) after the run is sync'd to Nike.com

This is what I need for them to do to keep me using Nike.com I've been using their website since 2012, so I have lots of data invested ... although Smashrun.com has liberated me from Nike's lock in. Ideally, I'd use Apple Workout app, but that data is locked in even more than Nike's. Maybe endomondo.

i guess it is the Watch as the map do not appear under Apple activity as well. I checked with Apple support and it seem like quite a number of users also reported the same issue. They are looking at the issue currently. The support did advise to try enabling the location services on my phone and sync with my watch, then run without the phone. Hopefully it works.

Hello everyone. Is anyone still having issues with map logging on your Nike+ Run App? I went running yesterday and the map info didn't appear... Today I even tried again testing and logging my walk with GPS without my iPhone when walking to the gym and no GPS map again. I'm starting to think it might be the watch, or the app is just broken. Tried uninstalling, nothing..

I'm seriously thinking in going back to RunKeeper now that they've updated their app for AW2.

Update for Nike in the App Store just hit. @Bob190, you'll like it!
From the app store notes:

Bug fixes and improvements for Apple Watch users:
- Split data available in post-run summary on Apple Watch
- Improved GPS/route syncing with runs started on Apple Watch
- For true stand-alone functionality and to save battery life, runs started with Apple Watch will no longer start the Nike+ Run Club app on iPhone

Tip: To view heart rate and pace metrics in-run, scroll down to Settings on the Start screen and toggle on ‘All Metrics’

General app bug fixes and performance improvements

Looking forward to giving it a try today.

Unfortunately, they still haven't added heart rate to voice feedback. That would be a great add, especially now that the cold weather is here and have resorted to wearing long sleeves. I train a lot by heart rate, so it would be great to just get the current value in my ear, rather than having to look push up the sleeve to look at the watch and strain my eyes to see the tiny number.

In general, there are a lot of things they should add to voice feedback, like lap stats, etc. I used the iSmoothRun iPhone app for a time, and it had an amazing array of voice feedback options .. they were great.

But the splits, and syncing improvements are certainly a step in the right direction.

Is the RunGap pay for Endomondo,Stava a one time purchase or is it a monthly charge.
It's a one time purchase for basic functions but there's an IAP for export functions to Strava etc, which I think is active for 3 months.

Okay thanks. Do you know if it exports the GPS info as well as the workout info? If not do you know of any apps that do pull both GPS and workout data from the Activity app?

Pretty certain it does, as I had a map in strava of my NRC run

Yes it does. Just be sure not to import from Health into RunGap first, as that data will not have the GPS info. Import from Nike directly into RunGap and you will get all the data, including the GPS data.

One thing to remember about RunGap is that procurring the data from Nike is basically done via a hack since Nike doesn't formally allow 3rd party access to its data. Nike can make changes at any time that closes whatever avenue RunGap is using to get the data, and RunGap has recently announced that they won't try to find alternative ways to get the data once/if Nike does that.

SmashRun also pulls data from Nike, and then you can use Tapirik to sync to Strava. But again, Smashrun is likely using the same methods as RunGap to get the data from Nike, and Nike can put a stop to that at any time. Nike doesn't play nice with 3rd party developers from what I understand.

The other thing to remember about RunGap is the in-app-purchase for three months of syncing is $2. Two measly dollars.
