Nike s6 for running

One of the nicest plus I have found with AW6 while the Nike app is running is that the alway on display shows the time in a pretty big font, easy to read under all light conditions.

The natural integration with the Nike run club app is out of discussion, of course.

Three datapoints as an FYI...

1 - The display of time over blurred background is standard AOD behavior for any third party (and most Apple) apps. You'll see the same with the excellent WorkOutDoors app. Note - the Apple Workout app displays its info with AOD.

2 - not sure what "natural integration" you mean? Non Nike watches don't get the bands or watch faces, but you can still use the NRC+ app and its complication remains available. When I made the change from Nike+ S3 to non-Nike S4 stainless steel model I continued to use NRC with no trouble. Just didn't have the Nike watch faces. Even with my S6 I still see the NRC app as an option to install if I wish.

3 - I ended up moving off of NikeRunClub some times ago -- Nike shut down their web interface to view my runs, and they weren't "playing nice with others" in terms of allowing data exports to other platforms. While it would be possible it was through workarounds that would sometimes break. Perhaps this has changed since then. This may or may not matter to you, but do think towards the future if you should decide to switch to a different platform. It's nice not to have to factor in losing your history/data as part of choosing if a different watch would be better for your needs.

I presently use the Apple Workout app for my runs and walks, then the RunGap app syncs the data out to Strava and GarminConnect - this way I'm not dependent on Apple or a specific app within the Apple platform, and I have a web browser interface to view my runs (& gps tracks).

I didn't remember the web interface! Man, you threw me for a ride through memory lane. I started running with nike (can't remember what was called at the time) when you had to put a plastic pebble (pedometer) in your tennis shoes and sync it through iTunes (or was it through the iPod?) unto the web site (Nike's). I think it was... 2004, maybe?

I remember coming back from a run and having to plug the damn thing into the laptop, and spending a good half hour perusing the data obtained from the run. Fun days.

Yep - certain Nike shoe models had a cutout under the insole; other folks used a clip to the laces for the footpod. iPod nano 6th gen would gather the data and sync over when plugged in.

It was a helluva lot smaller than the Polar footpod I'd been using with my RS200SD watch. Ended up with a Garmin 610 around 2011 or so and used that for a few years as well as other Garmin running watches before moving to Apple predominantly. Thus a lot of my history sits in Garmin Connect and is likely why I still load stuff up to it. I do still have my FR235 in case I somehow loose my sanity one day and decide a third full marathon seems like a good idea.

EDIT - another independent site I use some is RunningAhead.com - has a neat tool for building a training plan that you can export as a .ics - and you can reuse/update old training plans you'd built. It can import from Garmin, then matches the actual against the intended training run.

I don’t really know why I didn’t pick up the LTE: probably I was hesitant to buy something that may drain more battery and that isn’t really needed in my normal use.
Yes I hear you. I think it’s worth paying the extra £ and knowing it can work as best as it can without ones iPhone being near it.

Hi,

Thanks for your answers.

1 - didn’t know as I’m new with the AOD functionality
2 - this was meant to be not specific to the AW Nike edition, my bad
3 - good to know

I have SS 4 LTE with 7.0.2 installed. I hate carrying my phone and need to be able to call or message when I'm running especially, if I get injured, dont feel well. or hurt on my runs. Nice to know I can call someone.

I pretty much have everything disabled/background refresh off on my watch except, messeging, calls, workout, activity, and music. My last run was about 3:30 minutes and I had 39% battery life left. My watch is getting old too, 90% left on my battery.

I wont be upgrading my watch 4 yet waiting to hear about Watch 7. I dont think apple watch 6 is worth the upgrade unless, I break my watch.

OTOH, you can sell your series 4, and depending on the price, with about 200 bucks more, you can get the new one.

If you wait another generation, you’ll get less for your current watch. That’s what we’ve been doing for 3 generations now.
