i was wondering if maybe nike+ could have a bigger role in the forums here, or at least something where more people see it. every month we have our macrumors challenges, and it's only around 50 people or so.

there are tons of active members around here, so most people probably don't even see the thread.

and people that just walk are welcome also. it's great for people who need to lose weight also

maybe a Nike+ sub-forum?

It's a chicken-and-egg issue when we wonder whether a given subject area has enough followers to deserve a subforum, yet the attention that a subforum gets may be necessary to achieve enough participation to qualify in the first place.

While acknowledging that, I'll say that I don't think we're likely to have enough Nike+ threads to need a subforum for them. You wouldn't know it from looking at the forum list these days, but we do try to keep the number of forums manageable.

not sure he meant sub-forum, so much as more exposure.

twoodcc did suggest a sub-forum, but how to help with exposure in other ways is a valid question.

We made an effort in that area in March, when we helped set up the Overview: MacRumors Nike+ Challenges thread and the Notable Community Threads thread that links to it, with the latter thread made sticky in the Community Discussion forum. The goal was to reduce the number of competing sticky threads while still letting people know about the group activities such as the Nike+ Challenge, the MR Weight Loss Challenge, and the MR Push-Up Challenge.

What other suggestions are there?

i see what you're saying. out of those we tried in the past, the most successful was when we had the Nike+ challenge thread made a sticky in the community section. at least it was in my opinion.

maybe a sub-forum isn't the answer, but it seems there has to be a way for more people to see the thread and know what it is.

The number of new bods appearing to join in the challenges was greater when the Nike+ thread itself was stickied in Community rather than being stuck in 'Notable Community Threads'

Now, so long as we all start talking about progress regularly, and bump it up to the front page of Community, we do get occasional new members.

I guess another idea would for for those of us who use it, to put the thread into our signatures to encourage others?

I would love for there to be more encouragement for Nike+. It would of probably helped me stay more motivated.

How about an article on Page One?
something is better than nothing

If it means anything, I didn't know there was a Nike+ section on macrumours.
well, it's not a real section yet, but we do have Macrumors challenges and stuff. you should check it out

Right back where I started...
Just for statistical sake - perhaps a daily poll to get information on who actually frequents this site and has a Nike+. Based on that information it would provide a realistic view of what the possible Nike+ MacRumors universe could be.

if we had our own sub forum under say ipod & itunes then we could spread the word about nike+.

at the moment for any discussions regarding the nike+apple system, or techie questions/advice i have to search- and sometime i miss threads.
