Huh?and move he TouchID button to the top so it's not directly opposed to the Volume Up button!
Economies of scale. Apple has a certain profit margin for all their products, no matter the price point. Using the older screen parts mean less cost for Apple. Unlike other OEMs, Apple still use premium materials for the body of the SE, aluminum and glass. Other OEMs would've resorted to plastic back and frame at this price point. For Apple, they keep the premium materials but cut cost somewhere else. Why is Apple dragging this seven year old fat bordered design on? I don’t get it. Why not use your modern design of the mini for those models instead.
I bet apple will start to use it when notch will be over on the “first class” model, and that design will be the “new” out-of-date design... simple strategy to avoid an inner cannibalization,It should use the mini chassis now.
The report yesterday stated this updated SE2 would get a A14 bionic, but this report states that it will get the A15 which makes more sense.Yesterday we got a report about iPhone SE, and today Nikkei is out with a report that regurgitates the exact same info
and move he TouchID button to the top so it's not directly opposed to the Volume Up button!
Can't you just put in a new battery in your 6 plus and wait it out? New battery should hold 2 years. I'm thinking the same way ... no intention of spending 1000 dollars+ every time ...so when I do it it has to be exactly how I want it ...I said last year but put it off for this year....LOL but now a non max 6.7 is coming in 2022 most likely... so THAT is when I will decide which modal to upgrade to...and for now go in and change my battery and beg my 6S to do one more year of service for me.This is bitter-sweet news. I‘m itching to replace my 6 Plus this fall with the 13. Would much rather have the 2022 6.7” Non-Pro, but I can’t wait that long or afford to upgrade phones every year.
I would have been better off not knowing. (Who at Apple can’t seem to keep their yap shut?)
Then who’s gonna buy the mini?No doubt a great phone...just wish they'd retire the 2014 look and consolidate their design cues - all edge-to-edge screens, Face ID, and flat edges. Would much prefer to see a cheaper Mini transitioned into the SE slot.
If the US dairy industry is making too much milk, and the milk price plummeted, do you think the companies will give the excess milk away to the poor and needy, or do you think the companies will pour the excess milk into the ocean? The Mini will be an old design.
Besides, from Apple’s perspective, once manufacturing of a product has started, keeping it going is cost efficient, and that’s true whether they keep their iPhone 8 manufacturing line up and running, or their Mini line.
It’s do-able, but whether Apple wants greater visual differentiation between their regular products and cheap SE products is another question.
Ha, I'm terrible and will probably buy both the 13 Mini and SE2 Refresh. I'm a sucker for a small iphone, so 2 in the same cycle... its like Christmas and my birthday all in one!The who’s gonna buy the mini?
The point of SE is so that people who don’t care about technology or who can’t afford anything else can be given an iPhone.
Using the old platform can drive the cost down by a huge amount both in R&D and in Economy of Scale. The sunk cost has been paid for by iPhone 8 and iPhone 5. Volume purchase deals with the manufacturers can also yield Apple additional savings.
Yes. I guess this is the reason they are still retaining the design. All the other models have Face ID.I hope the SE keeps the home button and TouchID for years to come
The only reason the price is low is the old design. Any modifications will increase the price as the manufacturing process will have to change.hope they remove the bottom bazel and place the fingerprint ID on the power button and reduce the top bazel as well
I wouldn’t mind paying more if they would squeeze in MagSafe especially considering they have now introduced a battery pack.Using A15 is a no brainer. Apple will use the same chipset as the latest iPhone on every SE generations (A9, A13). The big question is the form factor. The 2021 SE form factor's biggest issue is the tiny battery, which is not sufficient even today for smartphone use, let alone adding 5G.
Of course, Apple can simply add magsafe support on it, to nudge people to spend more money and buy the also tiny battery pack.... Wouldn't surprise me a bit.![]()
Wouldn't it be identical to the 13 Mini then?It should use the mini chassis now.
In the power button would be fine. Your hand goes to the power button automatically.Huh?Let's think about that for a second. Imagine having to reach to the top of the phone everytime you need to unlock it.
No thank you sir! The SE is perfect. As was the iPod click wheel. I still use my 10-year-old iPod Classic daily. If Apple similarly retire the current SE design, I’ll be using mine for another decade. No doubt a great phone...just wish they'd retire the 2014 look and consolidate their design cues - all edge-to-edge screens, Face ID, and flat edges. Would much prefer to see a cheaper Mini transitioned into the SE slot.
