Good. Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts should take notice. Although I'm not sure if it's possible to undo the tarnish these companies have created for themselves.

What is it you object to at Blizzard? I don't have an issue with monthly access fees for online games that require server access like WoW does and their cosmetic purchases (mounts, pets) are really optional.

EA titles pushing loot boxes I fully agree with you.

I would've loved to have been in on that conversation. "Hey, only WE can charge a ridiculous amount of money for things. CHILL!"

Nintendo is right.

IAP on games it’s turning the industry into this generation’s E.T.

Aside from cosmetic IAP, the quality and enjoyment of games suffer when having to make purchases to complete tasks, goals, achievements, or quests....

This is what happens when you open Pandora's Box, Nintendo! Good luck closing it. At least they realize the damage to the brand and are trying to mitigate it. Apple saw a pile of money and didn't care and I feel like it has ruined iOS gaming for me. I don't play anything any more and I used to obsessively browse TouchArcade every day.
But Apple is betting the farm on "pay every month subscription services/IAP and never own the widget outright be it a game or a text editor" so that must be the future right?

What baloney. After pulling in (literally) a couple billion dollars on Pokemon Go and others… now you're getting gold feet?

Straight up PR to cover the backlash over their loot boxing.

Nintendo needs to make their games impossible to beat, like during the golden age of 8-bit gaming. The Nintendo game console (the original, not Super, not N64, not GameCube or any of the new systems) taught me a tough life lesson. Namely that things gets harder and harder and then you die.:p:D If you somehow managed to beat a game, then your were considered a gaming god among your peers. Those were the days.

Kudos to Nintendo, this was very nice to read. It's a shame that this is the way the market has turned, but I suppose when consumers speak for profit companies listen. It's an uphill battle, but I hope Nintendo sticks to their guns.

I agree with them on IAP, but it would be nice if they didn't require an internet connection for games to work too, 'cos it also kind of tarnishes the brand to effectively call all your paying customers potential pirates.

I never got the allure with in app purchases or pay to play. The moment I see it I’m turned off by the game. I want to pay once and be done with it.

I’m still currently playing diablo 2 purchased in 2001 on an iMac. Call me old school I guess.

I'm really looking forward to Nintendo discontinuing the rest of their mobile games, like they did with Miitomo. People love having their favorite games taken away and getting stabbed in the back by companies they support.

I love the Mario running game, but deleted it from phone because of all the popups. In app purchasing. Gathering coins. Etc etc.

I much prefer games that cost a dollar or two, but leave me alone while I play.

For what it's worth, the only Nintendo iOS game I've played (and cared to play) was Super Mario Run. I absolutely loved that game, did everything in it except the hardest to attain things from Toad Rally.

I refuse to play anything free to play. I feel like the mechanics is a complete waste of mine and everyone else's time. I have absolutely no desire to wade through 20 min of bs menus in order to play for two. I'm just not doing it, and I'm sure there's a lot more people like me out there. Then again, there may be a whole lot more kids out there who want everything and anything for free.

About damned time, Nintendo. I'm rabid for Animal Crossing but the Pocket Camp game was awful. I couldn't do anything without having to make more In App Purchases. Their now-$19 3DS game is still more fun this many years down the road.

A few weeks ago, they sent me a survey and I let 'em know what I felt about Animal Crossing Pocket Camp. Glad to see the change.

Not a big gamer but pay or ftp with iap those are definitely two games I'm looking forward to. Two of my favourite all time games.

Good for Nintendo. I'd rather pay full value for a solid app gaming experience than get fleeced by developers who push IAP micro-transactions out of greed by continually moving the goal posts to push an endless cycle of in-game meta changes, by selling power to the wallet warrior whales who feed on the free-2-play guys.

(Hence the game War Robots for anyone who plays.)

Worry they might, but unfortunately this is the way the mobile app industry works these days. Find the next great thing, or get used to the model and embrace it.
