And yet this article mentions that some of those classic massive selling hits of their IP are having an issue on mobile for other platforms. ;) This is what you're missing and will continue unless fresh new ideas or implemention to use those IP evolve behind classic implementation.

For me personally ... Zelda BOTW is amazing from what I've seen. yet it's THE ONLY game, personally, I'd be interested in owning a Switch! Metroid was supposed to have a new game in the full Prime series (aka Game Cube era) - until that I'm not buying. Mario Odyssey again only on switch. Switch isn't the platform of this thread and thus irrelevant. Most gaming on Nintendo's IP are not only on their own platforms.
I’m not missing a thing. Nintendo isn’t interested in pursuing mobile gaming. The issue isn’t IP, it’s that mobile is a completely different model (largely IAP/gacha based) and they aren’t as interested in that style.

You are clearly Nintendo is with several games in iOS a mobile platform, along with creating the DS series, and the Switch. Nintendo is amd has been for decades been VERY interested in mobile gaming (aka Game & Watch, oh yeah they’re releasing another this Christmas. Seems you may not know Nintendo as much as you thought.

they’re not interested in burning financial resources where their loosing. It’s a business decision not a goal decision or change in vision.

the issue IS the IP on mobile. more people have various tastes where Nintendo has to compete with vast other creative game creators and a broader user bae with different tastes. Partnership with Nantic with Pokémon Go (published by Niantic in collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for iOS and Android devices) is a HUGE success! The ip is not as old as Mario or Zelda but at it’s core since the tv show debut (past initial super bright lights that caused seizures to those susceptibl) is geared at being mobile, moving the adventure of moving and discovery.

When you understand the different market segments & demographics of other platforms (not DS, Switch etc from Nintendo), you’ll get it’s their rigid focus of their IP of characters. Case in point Mario’s first entrance on ios is a very basic game, why?.?!

I'm not sure how this flew under everyone's radar. It is the only game I have on my iphone and have been playing it ever since it came out. Dr. Mario World for iphone introduced some features that I've never seen before and it is a little surprising that the game was not doing so well. I think Nintendo's idea of "not doing so well" is probably a bit skewed since they charge so much for their games (even pre-owned). I refuse to pay $40 and up for games that are 2-3 years old. Of course my xp with Dr. Mario games was limited to DM64 and regular NES versions but the other newer versions don't appear to have the game mechanics of the iphone version. It was a little depressing to hear the news of DM's EOL but not a huge surprise from Nintendo - the amount of disappointment coming from this game company on my end is not in short supply.

I expect them to make stupid decisions and squander their IP all while designing hardware that is cheap garbage. Honestly the last quality game system Nintendo came out with was the Super Nintendo. It's been downhill ever since. They've collectively lost their way as a game company years ago and have been struggling to stay relevant in the age of smartphones. They need some fresh blood in their management/marketing department and should start taking cues from their old rival - SEGA.

Nintendo is like DC Comics in a way. They have great characters and IP but they lack a coherent vision. There are too many money-grubbing executives calling all of the shots and not taking enough risks. Dr. Mario World and all of the other Nintendo iOS games required a constant internet connection to play. They're so afraid of piracy that they overcorrect to the point of diminishing the user experience and killing people's batteries.

Why not have a fully baked Nintendo game on iOS? I think the creators are a little too protective and refuse to go that route because they want people to use their lame hardware. It's really sad because my favorite games of all time have been Nintendo games but they no longer have enough appeal to be worth the time, effort or money. I'm not going to spend $400 on their new game system every couple of years just so I can wait forever for them to complete a couple of flagship titles only for them to quickly abandon the new game system in favor of another new game system. I'd much rather throw down on Panic's Playdate and discover something new and fresh.

can’t recall if Dr Mario had the same issue but I was mainly put off Super Mario Run because even after I paid for the full game, you can’t play offline at all.
I just wanted a proper game that didn’t need to be connected to the internet to work!

My wife became so sad when I saw it was being taken off line in Nov. She been playing it a little very night since it came out. It been her down time app or she needs to kill time. It put a huge damper on the entire evening when I saw it and told her. I would rather deal with that now so she can prepare for it to go off line for good in a few months.

Dr. Mario sadly is some great IP but Nintendo just is sucking at using it. This game was a great use for the IP but they are killing it.
